I for one am happy about the separation. In time this thread will become useless, but for now it is much appreciated. And those that dont see it on day 1 will appreciate it as well.

Going next Saturday at noon. Shouldn't have trouble finding a seat in suburban Indianapolis. Even still, we are buying tickets early just for shits.

Pretty stoked. If I'm being honest, I'm more excited at how excited my wife is for the movie.

Not even day 1. There's gonna be a TON of people here (it might not seem that way) who probably won't get around to seeing it for a couple weeks (Christmas/New Years) and I'm fairly certain they're gonna be all kinds of relieved at knowing they can come in here and bullshit about the movie without having relevant information laid out in front of them like a body on the autopsy slab.

Which is why I was confused as to why it was "baloney" that there's a month-long grace period. I could understand it if there wasn't a spoiler thread for people to use. But there is.

it's not like you have to physically get up, leave your house and enter another location with internet access in order to talk about the movie. You just click a link. The shit ain't hard.

At first. Then there was the Return of the Jedi god damn it.

The Force Awakens is based on the premise that the Return of the Jedi didn't go so well after awhile...

He returned and would appear to have gone into hiding

All indications are whatever Luke did after Endor it wasnt returning the jedi

Just to give you an idea.

Where are you coming up with this?

Why wouldn't you

Movies get dubbed over here.
Didn't care when i was a kid/teen and went to watch the prequels, but now it's really hard to enjoy a movie with lesser acting and fucked lip syncing, unless it's something that adds to the comedy, like old Jackie Chan movies.
I did an exception for Mad Max (for example) because i knew they talked very little in it.
Every other time i caved, i regretted it 10 minutes in ("why would they give this actor this voice?!" and so on).

Fuck, I am out of town living in a hotel and don't have tickets.

Anyone know the Harrisburg PA area? I need to know where the best theater to see this is Thursday night. I know IMAX will be sold out, so I just don't want to end up in a place that is small and outdated.

Sadly I wasn't able to get tickets for opening night, but I managed to sneak into a showing on Friday. This is the most excited I've ever been for a movie.

I'm going Friday afternoon. Didn't feel like going Thursday night. I'm sure it's going to be crazy-crowded for a while either way.

I just want everyone to get along, this is not the Jedi way.

The Jedi way wasn't hugely successful, Brandon.

Luke was threatening to kill people within the first few minutes on screen. Jedi are now pretty cutthroat.

So a club composed entirely of a single member, that being some angsty kid who dresses in all black and has the hots for his own sister.

I dunno about this club.

Maybe Jedi just suck?

If they renamed the empire and rebellion then stands to reason we can rename the jedi

Suggestions welcome

Shadows of the Empire had some out of place content for a Star Wars story. I think Xizor had some kinky alien sex and Vader sat naked in a tube.

I didn't think much of it when I read in the news that my city cinema's IMAX projectors were upgraded to laser but turns out it's sort of a big deal for this film. I might have to watch it a third time if this turns out to be good.

Yeah apparantly the difference in quality is massive. Darker blacks, better contrast and brighter 3D image.

Laser projection is supposed to get theatrically projected blacks as close as they've ever been to true black. Essentially, the sort of contrast response you could only get from really good CRTs, but on a 50ft wide screen.

It does sound very tempting. I'm watching the midnight premiere, first in the world *maniacal laugh*, in normal 3D so I'll have a point of reference if I do watch it. I'll be honest, as long as it isn't abysmal I'll be seeing this in full IMAX glory.

Whenever I feel like this movie might suck I remember JJ Abrams is directing it.

...and you find this... reassuring? I can think of maybe one wholly satisfying movie he's done, and that's the first Star Trek reboot. The rest have been either messes or have horribly disappointing conclusions.

Even the 3rd act of Star Trek was not that great compared to the previous 2/3 of the movie.

Pure speculation: maybe Abrams is keeping Luke as his 3rd act trump card to break the curse.

Stark Trek, Super 8 and Into Darkness were all great movies.

And he has produced tons of other shows and movies that I liked.

...that's precisely why I'm more worried about it.

To be fair, I don't think I've ever found anything Abrams has done outright bad- outside maybe the final 2 seasons of Lost, though I don't think that was his doing- it's just all completely forgettable.

On a tangential note, there's something to be said for a unique touch in blockbuster movies these days. I was rewatching the prequels the other week and while, yes, they're pretty dern bad, I was struck at how refreshing they actually felt. The random touches, the worldbuilding, the serial esque transitions the series is known for, writing and storytelling that was obviously not tested/focus grouped/whatever- it feels tangentiably different from most blockbusters these days, which, while undeniably more competent than the prequels, feel factory produced in comparison. This is partially why I think I found Mad Max so great earlier this year, another work that is distinctly the product of a one unencumbered vision, and why I'm a little more worried this Star Wars will be an entertaining way to spend time, but nothing more afterwards.
