Star Wars: The Force Awakens |OT| A New Hope

I'm going radio silent on the 16th.

People love to spoil Game of Thrones on the day before it airs so I can only imagine how bad it'll be for Star Wars.

That's a good idea. Every time a commercial comes on I avert my eyes. When I glance, it seems there's always new footage. I'm going crazy.
Great OT.

Anyone else going to the full 7-film marathon showing? I can't be the only one.

Yeah, mine starts at 4am. I considered getting there at 3am with my buddy, but by the 7th film, everyone will be moved into the 3D room (or is it IMAX?) so what's the point? Then again, I don't want horrible seats for 14 hours.

I wonder if they'll have intermissions?

I know the Regal in Nashville, TN does for sure. Go check Fandango.

Damn, just checked Fandango ticketing not available there.

I'd hate to spent $40, drive 45 minutes and get shitty seats but I really want to see it in 70mm..

That's not too bad! That would've been my second choice.

That IMAX doesn't have reserved seating unfortunately. I'm not even sure at what time I should head over there.

:(

I an and I'm looking forward to every second of it.
Same, but I'm glad the prequels are first so if I'm tired then I can take a nap.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'll probably call over to my theater in advance to check.

What's the difference with 70mm?

Rough approximation:

Just to give you an idea.

Do they have reserved seats at that IMAX? I was thinking of going there later in the week, but the anxiety of getting a decent seat has me thinking pass.
I am going to King of Prussia in PA and they have reserved seating.

I couldn't see the midnight showing so we are seeing it in the afternoon on the 18th.

After the birth of my kids it will probably be the greatest day in the history of my life.

I may be wrong about this, but is only the Battle of Jakku scene shot in IMAX and the rest 35mm?

right. And its not really a Battle of Jakku, its a chase sequence of our heroes meeting up and getting the hell off the planet.

But the rest of the film will still size up really well in IMAX

Looking forward to seeing how the new IMAX laser tech will enhance the viewing experience.

Anybody see a movie in IMAX laser yet? Is the quality difference as big as purported?

I still find it really fascinating that in an official capacity, the film's title does not reference the Episode number, but is just Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

As hyped as I am for TFA, I still fully suspect Fury Road is the best movie I'll see all year.

If The Force Awakens manages to be even HALF as good as Fury Road, it'll EASILY be considered the best Star Wars movie in 35 years. If it's like, 2/3rds as good? People are gonna be arguing whether it or Empire is the best Star Wars movie ever made.

I wish I liked Fury Road THAT much. Thing is, I loved Fury Road, and I still think the praise is overboard. Force Awakens shouldn't have any problems being better IMO. It's hard to explain I guess. I do like Fury Road a ton, I recognize how well made it is but the amount of love it gets went over my head a little.

I guess it's sort of like how I feel about Empire. I fucking love Empire. But it's not by any means by far the best one to me as many feel. I think it's great and among the best, but I don't think it's head and shoulders ahead of A New Hope or hell even Revenge of the Sith (though I know not a popular opinion so I won't argue it). In the end I find myself wishing I felt this way about these movies because damn.

Anyone else planning an internet black out the days before release? I am trying to avoid the movie being spoiled before release. Probably if there is a major character death though it will be instantly well known.

I feel like I know where I can look and such without being spoiled. I'm seeing it the 17th though. I haven't watched anything since like one or two TV spots a few weeks ago, maybe three weeks so I'm not even caught up on anything relatively new. I see no reason. It's out in a week. But yeah, godspeed in staying spoiler free.

I wasnt alive when people formulated original lists for 4,5,6, i very much look forward to arguments about this films place in the franchise.

i think that and creed kind of raised the bar so high for franchise revivals. i don't think abrams has it in him to match it, but still i'm excited about the prospect of a really fun star wars movie here with the OG cast. we'll see how it turns out. so soon.

Wasn't the movie shot in 35mm? Wouldn't the image seems stretch?

Basically, for a single sequence in the movie, the full height of the IMAX screen (real IMAX, that is) would be used. The rest of the time, the film would only take up the middle 2/3rds of the screen as presented in its correct aspect ratio.

Most IMAX screens in the US aren't actually IMAX screens, though, they're just regular size screens branded IMAX with a bunch of the seats scooted closer to it.

It's kind of blowing my mind how close it is.

We really in it.

What gets me most is that we could easily, easily, live in a world never seeing Luke or Han or Leia in another film, but we are, for at least one.

Its incredible to me frankly, the actors got on board, they did it before they were too old and could tell some new stories and we get a continuation of Luke.Fucking.Skywalker

I genuinely cant believe it

I'm already looking forward to speculating about VIII and IX. Such exciting times. I wasn't alive with the originals, was born a few months before Return of the Jedi and watched that trilogy when I was still very young. The prequel trilogy... I enjoyed it a lot but it was very predictable so speculation was at a detail level rather than story level. So this trilogy is the first, as a Star Wars fan, that actually feels unpredictable and as such I've avoided spoiler culture.

Despite eclipsing 33, this is the first time as a Star Wars fan that I've been at an age or mental capacity to speculate about a new set of films without really knowing anything or being able to guess as much as you could with the prequels, or the originals when you're 4 or 5. This is fucking awesome.

How early should I get to the theater for a Thursday evening show in a medium size town in USA? Any advice? Two people going, trying to sit together.

Leave now

Lol seriously though, my friend wants to go super early and I think it's way too early. He's talking hours in advance. I'd think an hour at most would be fine. Not the best seats but also not like we'll be in the front row not together. Am I wrong? I mean I feel like I've been to some pretty big opening nights before.

I'm guessing you already purchased tickets?

Oh yeah

Shoulda got in line yesterday, duder.

Real answer: I with stuff like this I usually drive by a few hours in advance and try to see if there's already a line forming. If so, you might want to just go ahead and get in line. If not, maybe catch a quick meal in the area, and when you're done, go by again and see if the line situation has changed.
