I just realized that for one of my showings I misunderstood the seating arrangement so I got 2 tickets 4 rows from the front at a titan xc theater...fml at least its not 3d and the theater has reclining seats

Yo, that Faraci guy gave Fantastic Four a fresh review on RT, so take that however you will lol
He's pal with the directors, if I recall. He also goes into movies having already decided how he'll feel about them.

I usually check out his take on things and then expect the inverse. It rarely fails.

It seems he's trying to say
1) the plot beats of this movie closely resemble plot beats in last Star Wars movies
And
2) JJ is good at entertaining an audience, but his films are shallow.

For the record I'm fine with #1. It seems to me that he is someone that wanted this movie to take major story risks.
As far as #2, well, I have thoroughly enjoyed every JJ movie I've seen so this doesn't worry me

Yeah, it's pretty obvious from the trailers to me that it's going to have a lot of the same beats. I'm fine with that.

And I also enjoy JJ's movies so that part doesn't worry me either.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS... Sometimes fun, often fine. It had a lot to set up, and I suspect Ep 8 will be able to do more with less.

Magnús Anton Ren @GeekFurious
Well, I don't want to violate anyone's trust but... the most cynical person in the world seems to love it so... #TheForceAwakens is the shit

Oh wow, Magnus got in? That's awesome. I remember when he was just another guy in the GoT fandom who bounced thoughts off of me and I bounced them back. He's moving up.

I mean I'm sure if I were a Star Trek fan, I would have fanboyed the fuck out during JJ's films. Never watched a full episode of Star Trek in my life and came away from those movies thinking they were fun.

But now this is Star Wars.

Here comes the part where every time someone criticizes the movie, we look for every review that person has done so we can find the ones we disagree with and claim they clearly have no taste.

I don't have any interest in doing that (you're not wrong though, here we are in the thick of it) but I've known that my tastes and Faraci's are far apart for years.

Yoooooooo

YOOOOOOOOOOO

Don't read that nickrob dude's tweets. He may have posted a spoiler, no idea if it's true.

fuckit I'm done

Edit: I'm thinking it was a troll because I find it hard to believe he'd willingly tweet out a real spoiler to his followers, but there's assholes everywhere so who knows? Just steer clear

Why not? Coming off the prequels. You think this fandom is going to go through that again?

The hype and high from a new movie can cloud anyone's initial judgement - no matter what type of fan you are. As long as it's not worse than the prequels then I would expect the '#swomgbesteva!' from some fans.

Why? We've just had two sequels to long running franchises this year (Mad Max Fury Road and Creed) that are easily among the best in their series.

I didn't really care for Mad Max, though I never saw the old ones so I'm probably not the best person to ask about them.

The Rocky series, on the other hand, I adore. Probably my favorite film series besides Star Wars. Creed was incredible, but even still I'd probably rank it below Rocky 1-4, personally. If I had to organize it by tiers, though, Creed would be at the same level as Rocky 2-4. Rocky 1 is by itself at the top in GOAT tier.

I feel the same way about Star Wars and Empire. They are my top favorite films of all time. Both GOAT tier. With Creed, I didn't get a GOAT movie, I got a great movie that can hang with the best Rocky films. And that was super satisfying.

I expect nothing more from TFA. I highly, highly doubt it'll impress me more than my two favorite films of all time. But if I walk out of that theatre going "Hmm, that was real fucking good. I'd rank it below Star Wars and ESB, way above the prequels, and about where Jedi sits" I'd be ecstatic ;)

I have some more complicated thoughts on TFA, but will save them for the review. Some faults, but no doubt best Star Wars film since '83.

I made the same mistake. Seemed minor though, either way, I'm staying off twitter now. Neogaf only place on the internet I feel safe.

creed is EASILY the best rocky film since the first. I love the shit out of 2, 3 and 4 as well (though they have their problems) but man creed is just...that quality.

so yeah it is possible in 2015 to surpass an old/loved franchise. mad max did it too.

What's going on in my mind right now:

Can't wait.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoke to my every emotion. Most of them good, a few not, but overall it was an amazing, overwhelming experience

People will dismiss the tweets that don't reinforce their preconceived views and praise those that do, this is a psychological occurrence. We are all lemmings.

The Force Awakens is life. Finally, life, back in Star Wars. Warm characters that care for one another and make you care for them.
