That's fascinating. The problem is if you make their heals good enough then they're an infinite resource healer; if you don't make them strong enough then they aren't viable compared to other healers. Guess they went with the 'too weak' path.

I'm still playing IA though. I love the theme and the fact I can stab people in the back while healing a team member with some darts or droids. Too much fun.

Every healer is an infinite healer really. There is no mana or mana equivalent in TOR.

I do think they will buff them to make them a bit OP though. Simply because it has been widely known, at least with the IA, they will be the least played class. If you notice during SDCC almost all the dev's said they love and play IA. They have been trying to hype IA a lot to get people on board.

Yet another one of the "Rift has this, why don't you" complaints that have been answered.

I completely skipped Rift and know nothing about it. AoE looting is a great feature.

Are there any other significant ones players are trying to get added to ToR?

By stating specific ones, it's a violation of the NDA as it would be saying something the game doesn't already have.

Really enjoying the Esseles video and onwards content on Alter. Gah, think I might have to go on a blackout soon. At this rate i'll have seen half the game before release :)

Half of the level 1-10 content maybe :p

Seems like no one from the higher levels feel the need to leak stuff ( unfortunately )

All the space/ship stuff is higher level.

Since there wasn't a wipe, maybe we'll see some 20ish stuff next week.

"Higher" being just above 10. I mean, we know people get the space ships about there (under 20 at least)... I wouldn't call that high level.
Me, i'm happy with no high level leaks. And i'd rather keep it that way... It's bad enough that i accidentally read Trooper origin quest ending...

Thanks for the info, Dinosaur and Madden. Are they still sending out beta keys randomly, or is that pretty much over?

'Putting a window out there creates a window of opportunity for our principal competitor to put out an expansion pack or an ad campaign et cetera around our launch window,' said Riccitiello.
I was going to ask about a release date and I found this, hahahaha.

That's wise, a WoW patch came around the time of Rift's release, a few weeks after but they were hyping it up big time to steal the spotlight.

Right now they're playing chicken with Diablo 3

Do you really think it's an either/or? I don't think that amount of the population really is that significant.

I'm getting both either way but it doesn't seem like many would have a decision to buy an either/or unless it's financial and even then I really don't see it being that big of a number. MMO's (in the past it seems) usually only compete with each other. I mean, aren't we getting a COD around that time too?

D3 is not an MMO... a lot of people are willing to pay a monthly fee for one game and still buy normal games too and play them.
I'm considering getting both, and their release dates matter none to me (other than that i'd like to play TOR ASAP, Star Wars addiction*...)
Never understand the massive competition beetween AAA shooters. I'm more likely (well, i was) to buy them all and since they're not MMOs, i wonder why should the companies care. Sure, there's DLC but it's still not a MMO with a monthly fee.

*Not really

Yeah that. And Halo CEA. And Battlefield 3 soon. And Skyrim. (And others?)

I think the overlap of D3 and SW fans is very high, but the group that will be buying both immediately on release I think is significantly lower.

There will be more of a struggle for the attention of people that don't buy games that frequently ; the ones that don't hang out here and the ones and tend to play longer. We all have these friends. They've only played WoW and maybe Starcraft in the last 3 years. Bioware is hoping for subs and Blizz is hoping for auction transactions. Neither one wants to compete for coverage or attention, but they appear to be on a collision course. [edit: this isn't an either/or proposition, I think both will be successful but both want to be out first to capture the more casual players first and get them hooked]

I'm betting EA let out a huge sigh of relief when they saw that GW2 is now a 2012 title.

I think the Shooter war has a lot less crossover and that is being fought between BF3 and CoD. EA is going to do everything they can to cockblock MW3 by advertising "10 Million players already online!" and the like

Yes, they are still inviting new beta testers and will probably continue to ramp up the numbers. As of today there is a new beta build and there have been rumors of a possible connection to a new phase with bigger numbers. Also, there will be beta weekends in September that have been hinted at to be short stress tests with a high number of testers.

So far everything suggests beta testers will always be chosen by a random pattern. This could change for later phases though.

JR recently told investors EA and Bioware are planning to announce a release date around September so expect the game in October or November (with a small chance of late September or early December).

I see your point. I think there's just huge titles coming out in general this holiday (as it usually is) and now we're saddling up with 2 games that I personally didn't think to see in 2011 with Diablo 3 and SW:TOR.

It's going to be interesting for sure, my Gamefly is going to get a lot of work because a majority of my "gaming cash" is going towards PC games that I know I can't rent and a couple console games I know I want to keep.

I realize the fanbase of both is probably huge but same with Starcraft and that didn't seem to pull WoW subscribers away and did amazingly well. When I was still playing WoW was when it launched and half my guild was "we raiding? k, I'll be on vent playing SCII".

I think the while the fanbase overlaps the main purchasing crowd that wants both will get both. This doesn't account for "presents" or gift cards and such though ... if I was broke I'm not sure what I'd do haha.

I don't know why people keep saying D3. They are different games, for different audiences. Yes there is overlap, but those who want MMO's will play SWTOR and or WoW.

D3 isn't an "mmo" killer. If it wasn't do you think Blizzard would try to compete with itself? Of course not.

To be honest, DOTA 2 by this time next year will have FAR more people playing it then D3 will. And many of them overlap into SC2 and MMO's.

Games sell on their own merits. If SWTOR is a good game, people will play it. Period.

I think it's pretty certain that TOR will sell a shitload. It's going to be up to Bioware to keep up with the end game content... that is going to be the deciding factor in TOR's success ultimately.

I wish the endgame won't become like WoWs. Constant grind for new gear to get new gear...
I wish Bioware will extend the story. Extend, extend, extend more... Naturally story could be told through operations, flashpoints, solo content, whatever. But no getting stuck on a single level and adding stuff there and staying there. IMO.
I'm very likely to alt at max level, or quit, neither is something i'd want to do, especially if i like the class i'm playing.

Submitted an application to the Imperial NeoGaf East PvE guild.

Not sure on which class but will probably choose one of the undesirables or whatever is needed.

One question I have is how many characters can you create on one subscription? I love having the ability to play all the jobs in FFXI and I know TOR wont have that level of freedom but Ive already seen people talking about using alts.

I actually hope that they will eventually end the story though or at least end it at a point where KOTOR 3 or whatever could continue off of it. Would be nice if I could pay to play until I finish the story and then stop. I'm not at all interested in getting gear; I just want to play this as if it were KOTOR 3.

There won't be another singleplayer KOTOR for a very long time. Best not get your hopes up.
KOTOR 3 is like Warcraft 4

Never say never, but it's never going to happen

edit: How do we apply to the GAF guilds? PM Blackface?

I was getting a bit worried for a second, since my favorite thing to do while idling in an MMO is jump around, but my fears were quelled.

Holy crap... for some reason I was under the impression you could only be human. Seeing all the available races... this is information overload for me.

I had not been following it closely. I'm getting more and more happy with my preorder!

KOTOR 3 will likely never happen, and it's LucasArts decision, Bioware has no control over this. TOR got made because LA approached Bioware for a MMO

I see. Well in that case, I hope TOR will have some kind of conclusion.

It's because I got in last year. They are looking for consistency at this point most likely. This beta will be the one I play most thanks to a small amount of time (not much, work is kicking my ass)

Edit: Smuggler is pretty fun so far, they have been making some good strides optimizing the game.

Is the Jedi Consular Kinetic Combat Advanced Class for tanking?

"Uses the double-bladed Lightsaber defensively to protect the Shadow and his allies."

If I can be a class with a stealth spec and double-bladed light saber tanking spec I will be a very happy person. Consulars are awesome.

Only one month away until beta in September!

Also what does being an officer in a guild entitle you with besides accepting new members?

That's kinda disappointing, IA will probably be my first Empire character, the idea of being morally good while being a part of the empire seems fascinating to me. That and the BladeRunner style story it seems to have. Probably will end up being one of the most underrated class stories i think.

Don't be afraid to play an underrepresented class if you like it. I've never been one for the Flavor of the Month mentality. Plus, when your class inevitably gets buffed and becomes the new "it" class, you can be all hipster - "I played IA before it was popular." It always happens.

Plus, better chance at loot if nobody else is your class! =D

I'm really curious about how loot works, it seems like a bunch of weapons only fit one advanced class per faction. Would a double bladed lightsaber drop from a boss?
Hrm, guess I'll find out soon enough!

Weird, my officers can't accept people into the guild at this stage. Anywhere I can turn that on or something?
