Don't be afraid to play an underrepresented class if you like it. I've never been one for the Flavor of the Month mentality. Plus, when your class inevitably gets buffed and becomes the new "it" class, you can be all hipster - "I played IA before it was popular." It always happens.

Plus, better chance at loot if nobody else is your class! =D

Agreed on all points except IA becoming a 'fotm' class. I think Trooper and IA are going to always be under-represented on some levelbecause they don't fit into any of the movie character archetypes nor do they have lightsabers to make up for it.

Backstabbing a jedi with an energy knife will be highly satisfying though!

Troopers should do fine, lot of people love the imperial and clone troopers. The IA will obviously be not popular because it has no film analog. Smuggler and IA I believe were some of the least signed up for so far guild wise.

Not sure if its been talked about but has bioware said anything about letting people create mods for the game?

Not at launch, but possibly after

Surprised there are few smugglers; maybe the Han Solo affect is a casual-only sorta deal? Even more fascinating to me is that TOR is the first MMO I'll experience where rogues are potentially the least played class. Definitely goes against the grain of normal archetype population balances.

Smuggler isn't necessarily a rogue-type class. They can be specced for it, but so can Jedi Consulars and Sith Inquisitors with the Shadow and Assassin AC's.

It is surprising that the class is so unpopular, but for what it's worth, I plan on making a Smuggler alt. ;P

They seem kind of boring, they don't have anything standout that would make people want to play them.

Troopers have big guns, bounty hunters have all their gear, agent has cool stealth abilities and rifles, Jedi classes have glow sticks etc.

Smugglers have 2 guns, "cool stealth abilities" and a wookie?

I'm calling it: Night Elf Rogue = Zabrak Assassin

Me: Mirialan Dirty Fighting Gunslinger Smuggler and Commando Combat Medic Trooper. no idea on race for trooper, though. If Zabraks can be all races, though...

Edit: This is what I imagine I'll play, but the ACs and specs may change (obviously)

You will probably see a ton of Jedi Shadow/Sith Assasin rogues.

I have been trying to stay away from information. I'm confused. So Smugglers/IA's can be stealth. Jedi's and Sith can as well??

I'm so used to the mold of 1 stealth class per pairing that this seems odd to me.

Yea some jedi builds have some stealth options

Yea I'd completely forgotten about the Shadow/Assassin melee specs. Why play a normal rogue when you can be one with two lightsabers right?

I do like the way they're switching some of the archetypes up at least a little bit. While some of the gameplay concepts are old hat it's refreshing to see new thematic takes on the genre-standard roles. It adds a bit more mystery and freshness to those of us who are far too experienced with MMO's for their own good.

Only one month away until beta in September!
Also what does being an officer in a guild entitle you with besides accepting new members?
On the web site (I think) it means you're a mod on the forum. In game they've teased that you can have different "ranks", which I assume means you can choose who can do what.

Yes, Consular/Inquisitor have access to stealth if they chose the Shadow/Assasin advanced classes. I am not sure which ACs it is tied to, but Smuggler and Imperial Agent have access to stealth as well.

If you look upon the ACs as basically being eight different classes, you would end up with two classes (per faction) having access to stealth.

*Edit*: This may also mean tanks with stealth as Shadows/Assasin have access to a tank talent tree.

You mean double-bladed lightsabers. Two sabers is limited to Marauder/Sentinel.

I actually have a question for everyone. A while back some video, not sure if it was officially released or not, showed that during character creation you could change body mass of your character. However, since then I have not heard a single thing about or seen a single video with a fat lard of a character. Does anyone know if this feature is still in the game?

I saw shaky-cam video of a fat bounty hunter or smuggler. I'm trying to find the video now.

edit: Found it - BOBA FATT

Thank you thank you! I was starting to worry they had pulled this feature. So excited for my fat trooper/inquis

Heh! I want a fat Twi'lek Jedi, force jumping around the battlefield.
Not really, but it's a hilarious mental image.

I wonder if head tendrils would become proportionally girthier as well. That'd be pretty cool.

Damnit...! I was really looking forward to it...

It's to be expected really, no one will be able to compete with SWTOR.
Kind of tired of the "competition" discussion, but I was looking forward to the reception of Tera

It's because the lead designer in Korea bailed. The game is crashing and burning. They've already merged servers in Korea.
Where's that troll that was crapping up this thread talking up Tera and bashing TOR?

3 actually. IIRC, Sentinel and Marauder have access to limited stealth.
Though arguably that doesn't make them stealth classes, merely gives them surprise attacking option.

Too bad Sentinel uses two blades... i'd like to play Sentinel with a saberstaff or just single saber. Guardian has heavy armor, i'd like to stick just to robes. Yes, i could wear medium armor rather than heavy but other than for RP purposes i won't do it.

Actually, i might use Sentinel with a blue and green saber and play Sith Juggernaut as a single saber class. And then Jedi Shadow with a saberstaff and Sith Sorcerer...?
I'm not sure i want to play two mirrored ACs, too much same i fear.

The only game that even has a chance is Guild Wars 2. I'm getting both so in that sense they aren't really competing (as GW2 is subscription free, I can afford to have two MMOs and fall back on GW2 when I don't want to continue my subscription for a certain month with TOR).

I don't even think WoW is going to be factor when those two games come out (I believe its eventual demise will be from how dated it is, not from any specific MMO coming out).

Activison Blizzard earnings conference call is about to start. Maybe we will get a nugget of new info.

Edit: Jesus christ. It's been a long day. Meant to post in the Diablo 3 thread.

Hopefully we get a class video for the Jedi Consular.

It's really bizarre to me how they're playing this one single class so close to the vest. I don't know what they're trying to hide...

its not the only one really

Well, it's the only class page on swtor.com that hasn't been updated with companion, AC, and ship info, etc.

I know when WoW launched that they didn't finalize the Hunter until like the week before release. I assume they don't want to get people's hopes up when it's really in flux.
