The problems with SWTOR are:
<Ed: lots of snipping>

- Combat is boring and poorly designed (I have energy, but all my abilities have cooldowns? My AE abilities are frontal cylinder channeled that requires a target? My AE abilities are lower dps than my single target in multi-target situations? My highest DPS ability is also my best utility ability? I could go on...)

- You have no auto-attack. This means that if you're on cooldown with abilities you're just standing there.

Is this a joke? Maybe you want to go back and take a closer look at the game that you supposedly are testing. Or stop breaking the NDA by posting public feedback and go ask on the testing forums if you're missing something.

Edit: Keep myself from breaking NDA by saying too much.

Plus, you know, balance between abilities is totally set in stone and will never change. I mean, betas are never used for shaking things out like that.

I'm playing a Jedi Knight and the combat is fantastic. You feel more in control and less automatic with the lack of auto attack. The combat animations are also some of the best I've seen in a mmo, if not the best. Everything flows nicely and It's very smooth.

I don't understand some of the criticisms in this thread in that department.

Don't forget god-tier sound effects. Everything in WoW was turned off. Voices, ambient, music -- all off.

ToR will have everything on. Loud.

Rookje is a classic example of why randomly selecting testers is a bad idea.

Each class now relies on ONE primary attribute to boost damage and healing with ALL ability types
People made a big deal out of this, but from what I understand from leaks, the previous system was confusing because classes had a few abilities that required different stats. In an old WoW example, it was like a hunter with most abilities based off agility but Arcane Shot benefitting from spellpower. Now each class has a primary stat plus the ratings.

Turning off Blizzard music? WTH is wrong with you?

Hey Junior, you're actually not half bad, got some common sense about ya. I rather like you.

Each expansions soundtrack never lasted longer than it took to max level or clear each raid. The 5 mans were all muted in place of some form of music that would curb the rage of farming.... say, Black Morass for the 30th time trying to get my fucking hour glass of the unraveler. Hearing This 10 times in a row? No ty.

You get tired of it when you play as much as some people do. And some of it is just fucking awful. That shit that plays in Icecrown doesn't even count as music.

I have 4 85s...almost 5 now and I the only time I turn down the game volume is when I'm in vent raiding.

I'm trying to play KOTOR 2 because I'm not lucky enough to get a beta invite into TOR.

No matter what I do, I cannot get the CG movies to play at a decent resolution - I think they are playing at 600x400 or whatever the lowest resolution is. I'm playing the game at 1280x1024, but the movies won't play at that same resolution. I've patched it with the HQ movie patch, I've tried changing the .ini file, I've even tried someone's mod, but nothing works. I have a native 1080p screen.

Anyone have a solution? I can't imagine that everyone played this game with the CG movies in this tinnnyyyyy little rectangle in the middle of the screen. You will be my hero if you can fix my CG problem!!!

KOTOR2 was a disaster. It's not worth the hassle of trying to get it to work on a modern system - and even if you do, there are still plenty of game-ending bugs in it. (Ironic b/c the game doesn't have a real ending b/c Obsidian ran out of time/money!)

The story and gameplay were pretty good, but doesn't hold a candle to KOTOR1 overall. Just read the synopsis on Wookieepedia and save yourself some grief.

Edit: I don't have any solution for you, sorry.

Blizzard games have always had some of the best music. If I didn't have their music playing I would fire up some trance music which I find to be perfect for gaming. I find lots of vocals distracting so music with a nice beat and no/few vocals aids my concentration.

I just got a beta invite last week, after 4-days of downloading (my internet sucks), the launcher got stuck on verifying the files and crashed. Now it want's to download it all over again.

I'm going to hand my PC over to a friend who has real internet and let him get it downloaded overnight for me.

Besides the ending I always liked Kotor 2 better than the first. To each their own I guess.

A problem with WoW music is they feel the need to constantly play it. Takes the effect out of it.

I played the multiplayer and PVE demos at comic con. PVE was very bland but I am willing to forgive it for the moment because it was a starting zone. The PVP demo was fantastic and I was very impressed. Having played WoW for over 5 yearss now, the PVP in SWTOR is a lot more fun.

I really hope they patch more "flash points" into the game quickly, the early reports of only 5 does sound disappointing.

I still really want into the beta but like most of you, nothing yet.

Sine I am not sure, are "FLASH POINTS" kind of like a Dungeon in other mmo's?

Basically that plus some Mass Effect-style dialogue/cutscene decision making. Bioware's trailers make them look pretty epic, but I can't comment any further.

Just got KOTOR on Steam and starting a new game now! Already have it on Xbox but still...

Does it play on Win7? I had heard it doesn't, but could not get anyone to confirm it. I am currently playing the Xbox version, but would prefer the PC version since it is much cleaner.

It's been a while but I managed to get it to run on win 7 with the widescreen mod. Looks decent at 1920x1080

I can back this up 100%. Four player parties are some of the best grouping fun I've had running a party "dungeon" or just questing. combat feels just right imo. I'm a lvl 18 Jedi Sage done a lot of grouping and combat.

My eyes weren't deceiving me then, since I never had any problem with the animations based on most video I have seen this year. If anything, the small flaw might be that people will stand there like a sign post even if they are been bombarded by blaster shots.

I also fail to see how the lack of auto attack is crippling, since it's a matter of game design philosophy. It can be useful and I understand why from a technical standpoint, but it's not needed.

I don't know about what ppl are doing without auto attack. If I'm in close using my sabers, besides hitting my keys on cooldown i'm pressing the right mouse button and still attacking away with my sabers. Just doesn't do it automatically for you.

The other night I literally sat there with my jaw open about how bad ass I felt playing the game with others. I think everything moves beautifully.

Now you have another problem. Music plays once then never plays again. There is hardly any dynamic queues for music in WoW.

When I played WOW I'm sure the music would play, it would shut up for a while - then drop back in again a bit later.

I just watched the Jedi Sage movie on AlterSWTOR and I gotta say I'm still disappointed in the animations. They just don't seem to flow that well into eachother. Looks very unnatural to me.

Maybe I should just play it.

But he also entitled to his opinion and what is fun or boring to you may be different for him. I am not defending him, but at the same time we have some users making some really great sounding stuff, but once someone makes a negative or a comment making the game not as good as we want everyone turns on the person.

At the same time if he is mis-informed or if he did not give it enough time that is one thing, but in the end it is just 1 persons opinion.

The difference between video and actually playing in the case of animation is quite great, in my opinion. I likewise was a bit disheartened by animation from various videos of the game. This all changed once I got my hands on the game.

It does, for me. I'll be watching my character do his thing for thousands of hours. It better look good.

That's a bit reassuring. :)

I watched several videos before getting in and I was very underwhelmed with what I watched. This definitely didn't translate to when I actually got to play.

On a side note of my praise. There are some things that stink right now. Each area is instanced like coruscant 629 and coruscant 697 and this is a pain in the ass when you are trying to team up and people are in different instances. You can quick travel to someones instance but if something screws up you are SOL since its on a 30min cooldown :( I rly hate instancing especially when its up to the user to switch between them. It really should just put all team players in the same instance automatically.

Also crafting in general needs a hell of a lot more direction and instruction (hard to tell what gathering prof are good for a certain crafting prof) and the AH needs a massive overhaul for searching/comparing prices

Game design 101, moving around and interacting should look & feel smooth, natural and fun.

I'd say it's completely the opposite.

That's only for beta though.

I'm level 22 right now and I have yet to notice any planet instancing. It's either not there at all or covered up very well. Any time I had to group with someone I was able to do so right away without ever "traveling between instances".

The starter planets are instanced based on player load. You either lucked out or happened to be playing when there was not enough people to create a second instance of a world.

I've read somewhere that Bioware are accepting guilds with at least 10 members from small amounts to larger ones? You do however have to do something extra. Forgot where I read it from though.

That's all you have to do, but they said they'd also pick guilds that are helpful to the community.
