EDIT Also, a new video by TB, a PvP match. He sounds as giddy as a schoolgirl.
O.O Those speederbikes. Making this battleground look like pod racing or something but it looks good to me so far. The Old Republic is attracting me for its emphasis on story but I would like to stick around for its PvP.

Water is not wet!
The whole idea of instant spawning and the use of a speeder bike to join the action is probably the cleverest thing ive seen Bioware do in a long time. When you are dead and waiting for a respawn it can be really frustrating because theres nothing really to do.. you just wait for the timer to come up.

edit: im aware that the bike flying down part is an automated process.

Might as well file for a divorce right now.

LOL, nah, I'll survive regardless of the release date. The timing would just suck for me.I don't really get to play many games now, but this one is going to be an exception.

I stopped coming to it once it became another WoW thread :-/ hopefully around PAX this weekend, it'll go back to normal.

First time I saw a SW thread that didn't just turn into a whine fest about the prequels.... instead it's just constant talk about WoW.... not really any better

With the sheer amount of customers that Blizzard has been bleeding from WoW the last 6 months, this just might be the "Low-Blow + Uppercut FTW" that's been needed to finally drop WoW as the No 1 Western MMO.

WoW still has 11 MILLION players.

And those subs WoW lost went to Rift and stayed there.

Almost seems as if people are disappointed in the reality of the situation.

I actually appreciated that write-up. I'd rather read an honest opinion than sugar coated fanboi blurbs. That way I'll simply enjoy the game for what it is in stead of getting disappointed constantly.

As been stated many times in the actual WoW threads, that 11 million number is bullshit inflated with lot of overseas nonsense. Also Rift has just recently supposedly reached 600k subs, WoW has lost lot more than that.

I've been going through the process if lowering my expectations a bit. I allow myself to get too hyped for something which makes me burn out really quickly.

Please Bioware, it really can't be that hard to animate jumps properly. The current animation is atrocious.
Yeah it's really static... no cool animations with it either.

I've just put my hype into BF3. SW is just an afterthought currently :D

First off:

Let's lose this 11 million subs, bullshit.

It is, in reality:

4.5 million "Non-Chinese Subscribers" with 6.5 million in China.

THAT is the setup.

With that small "Whoopsie, my bad" of yours cleared up, they've lost almost 1 million customers in the last 6 months (simple math = 900k subs LOST (this take into account new subs & lost subs with a NET LOSS of 900,000 lost subs) was once roughly 5.4 million subscribers) So, let's think about it for a second: You start with roughly (someone correct my numbers where I'm wrong, please), 5.4 million people subscribing every month and you LOSE 900,000 of them, you're down almost 17% in just 6 months. And this is with no true competition, just simple burn out.

Now add in the month before this MMO comes out when all those folks who are (currently) playing WoW with the "Meh, I'm bored as fuck, but this is the only game worth my time. But I hope that Star Wars is good, because I need something new to play...." players and you've got a potential MASSIVE drop in subscribers. Seriously, did you miss the massive ramp up in content production Blizzard has recently pledged for WoW once those 2 quarterly statements showed back-to-back drop of 600k subs & 300k (or was it 400k the 2nd time?) drop and we're still not that close to SW's release? They KNOW what's going to happen: The majority of the fan-base is currently burnt out on WoW, they're looking for the "Next Big Thing" to play & they know that unless Star Wars is s dud, they're going to potentially lose a metric fuckton worth of subs to them.

It's amazing how keyboard turners + clickers can make pvp look so terrible.
Anyone playing a game badly can make it look bad.

Are those numbers of western vs eastern WoW subs accurate? What's the source?

They'd been reported many times over the years. Before I finally quit WoW earlier this year, I kept up on such things on a regular basis.

That Sith Sorcerer writeup was really good. Are there any similarly detailed writeups for the Sith Assassin/Jedi Shadow? That's the class I'm most interested in currently...

Those numbers make sense. Of the dozen people I know who played WoW only two of them still play and only when there's a big content patch.

Considering the September beta is being used to determine when the release will be its probably fake.

EDIT: A Thursday release? Fake as hell.

What? No, the on-going beta is determining the release date. The September beta is just a stress test/marketing thing to get people hyped up to go buy the game the next month.

That makes more sense. Don't know where I heard that's what September was.

Someone else here made the claim that September test will be used to determine date, but so far it seems to just be preorder pushing incentive more than anything.

You seem very distraught over something...Have you considered talking to some one about it?

I don't mind if Bioware takes its time if the game isn't ready yet. I have already pre-ordered, but I really wouldn't mind a Q1 2012 release when that means a better game.

Those videos by the British dude were super disappointing at how close the combat is to WoW. That was the first real video I have seen of this game in action. I think the fact that Blizzard is losing subscribers due to simple burnout is going to actually hurt this game, as it is too similar to WoW and it will not feel shiny and new enough to overcome the burnout.

Source that. You sound so confident, surely you have a source!

Back when it was 10 million it was 5 mill Western, 5 mill China. AFAIK we haven't had a breakdown since, and I don't know if you remember the whole fiasco with launching WOTLK in China, so I see no reason to presume China makes up 6.5 million now. Keep in mind they've launched in Brazil and RU since then as well.

Also please back up the claim that ALL the subs lost were in the West. That sounds like a strange assumption made purely for fanboy reasons.

Blizzard always talks worldwide numbers, if they talk about business with their shareholders. While most of the lost subs come from the west, 900k is still a worldwide number.

I think this was already known, but confirmation never hurts: Origin won't be required to download, patch nor play SW:TOR.

Stephen Reid said:
Regardless of what other games may choose to do in their integration with Origin's desktop client, here's what our situation is:

You are not required to use the Origin desktop client to download, patch or play the game client for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

This applies whether you purchase The Old Republic via Origin.com or from a retailer in boxed form. You will not be forced to install the Origin desktop client.

There are still various consumer benefits to the client itself, but it's not required for The Old Republic.
