Glad I'm not the only one that gets annoyed by this slight. So, that's FieryBalrog, John Cleese and I who are annoyed.
I get annoyed by it, but then I also don't care. I'm a walking paradox.

The real KOTOR is happening: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/22/lucasarts-job-listing-hints-at-in-development-open-world-rpg/

.... LOL! Yea right. Perhaps a Force Unleashed RPG.... lol
I saw that. Keep in mind LucasArts recently bought the rights to use the Unreal engine.

Willow: The Game confirmed

I'm trying to engage my old guild for swtor, but, since pvp in it looks rather ..bland so far, it has not produced a huge excitement in our ranks. I guess its time to recruit. :)

SO. If anyone in Europe-Gaf likes to play with a bit more focus on PVP on Empire side, you are welcome to apply to the famous band of The Merry Men. Unlike the name suggest, we also open to women. :) Only restriction - age at least 18+, better 20+.

About us - we are group of older gamers that have tried everything that MMO world has to offer. Most are in mid 20s, many already above 30. The core is normally mostly pvp oriented, but pve events will be also organized regularly. Since we value good pvp more than everything, it is not surprise that our favourite MMO of all time is the Dark Age of Camelot. Some members are still playing it to this day.
Lively guild chat and humorous take on in-game (and real-world) problems are signature features of our guild.
We are using our own forums for the discussion at www.themerrymen.com, so you will be most likely asked to register there.

I will be happy to answer any question you may have. :) If you like what you just read, apply stating your neogaf username, and join the fun at http://www.swtor.com/guilds/31158/merry-men. :)

No, we should be getting a good look at the pvp world. They've been hyping PAX up for a good while. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear of some news about Sept beta. Wishful thinking but the timing would be good for it.

Be interested in seeing how that really turns out. I hope it's a big open pvp type of thing since they have Mythic people working on it. Instance pvp is ok once in a while, but I want mores

I can't find any confirmation on anything, though it was rumor, and we really don't know what it means when they say PVP "world"

I think it was an interview with Gabe Amatangelo, gonna see if i can find it. He says in the interview that there will be a planet that is pvp so even on PvE servers there will be pvp here.

How many classes are just mirrors of one another? Is there a difference between a Sith Warrior and a Jedi Knight? The descriptions of all the force users sounds pretty similar, but I can't tell if they are exactly the same without looking at the spells and talent trees.

They are all mirrored basically. There are slight differences with some different abilities/effects, but it's kind of like what they did with Warhammer Online with mirroring the classes across the two factions.

So then it's 8 classes total? I thought there were couple ACs on each side that weren't mirrored by the opposing faction.

I guess that makes shopping for a class easier, since I don't know which faction my friends will want to join.

I think the force using classes are mirrors basically. The Bounty Hunter sort of mirrors the trooper, except the BH gets blasters and the trooper gets a rifle. The smuggler and Agent sort of mirror, except the Imperial agent has a rifle and the smuggler gets blasters. I think it makes a difference whether you're using blasters or rifles. blasters are more of a mid-range weapon.

In terms of roleplay there's obviously big differences between all classes. They get different sort of class quests.

16 classes, the way I see it. TOR classes are more like "archetypes" (not my word, but it works), Advanced Classes seem to be closer to our expectation of "classes". Then you can specialize. I love it. You are forced to learn basics of the "archetype", then you can choose your "class".

The differences are mostly visual though, lot of the same abilities are basically mirrored. Each class has some little unique things but overall even the AC's are apparently mostly mirrored as well.

Advanced classes are very different from one another (so x2), but they are mirrored across factions (so /2) leaving 8 classes.

So then, release date this Sunday? (Pax Prime) My money is still on an early November release, the force tells me around the 7th!

BattleMonkey and FieryBalrog are right. Republic/Empire classes are heavily mirrored, but advanced classes would count as (and be labeled as) a class in their own right in most games.

There won't be a release date until after the September beta weekends. You can expect some PvP reveals from PAX (they more or less said so at gamescom), but that's probably it.

Looks like there's a good amount of environmental variety in Eternity Vault.

Did anyone else look at the rancor thinger right after the lava pics and think: BY FIRE BE PURGED!!! ?

A couple ACs were initially not mirrored, but they are now. All of the classes, even the ACs, are exact copies of each other. The only difference is graphic effects for the abilities and the names of the abilities.

I need new RAM that isn't all fucked up. Then I will be ready. Upgrading to 8GB!
I may be overhauling my gpu situation. I dont think this will run at max 2560x1600 with one 480 and im starting to despise my sli setup bc of all the heat. Hopefully by the time this comes out it will be cold outside so i can just crack a window.

I have a 560 and my PC puts out cool air. Having a MASSIVE fan on top certainly helps though.
Well it depends which place you put your hand on mine lol. When i game its a 60 minute countdown until my bedroom is 80 degrees. No way is 60 minutes at a time enough for swtor.

November 22nd.....Mark my words

I really hope it is at least a couple of weeks earlier than that. Wife's bday, anniversary, and anniversary trip would all delay me getting to play :(

all advanced classes, and abilities are mirrored in damage & effect all the way.

a bounty hunter does death from above, flying up into the air, shooting missiles & gunfire at an area. The trooper sprays his gun all over the place. But same damage & same channeled aoe.

A sith inquisitor will let out a bolt of lightning that stuns someone for 3 seconds, it comes with a nice shock effect on the mob/player. a jedi consular will throw debris ripped from the ground at someone that stuns it for 3 seconds, it comes with a "i'm dizzy!" effect.

same damage, same stun time, different look.

what I wanna know is, the gunslinger is the mirror of the sniper. the sniper gets this orbital strike attack, calls it in all agent style. what will the gunslinger get do you think? a bunch of wookies come out of nowhere & beat up everything inside the circle?

A tester on reddit started an AMA an hour ago. He posted a pic of the character creation screen. And I already sorta knew this, but I still don't like it:

There is NO exploration until after level 16+ (whenever you get your ship, depends on story and is between 16-21). Meaning, you cannot leave your home planet until level 10 and you cannot leave the 2nd planet until your story allows. The planets are very much on rails and you cannot go off the set paths due to mountains, rocks and other obsticles. - this was a HUGE disappointment. However, it gets somewhat better after level 25+.

Also a disclaimer, the dude doesn't seem to be a MMO veteran. I'll leave it up to you if that is good thing or a bad thing.

EDIT Also, a new video by TB, a PvP match. He sounds as giddy as a schoolgirl.

The edits keep on coming: Level 50 Sorcerer write-up (with massive story spoilers).

PvP looks pretty good. I don't know much about the specifics of it but I hope they don't fuck it up with insane gear growth.

I think it's better that the classes are mirrored for the sake of PVP, but it'll make it kind of annoying to discuss the game across faction lines because you'll always have to jog your memory to remember what class someone else is talking about.

You'll see a post like "God damn I fucking hate Sith Juggernauts and their their stupid Dark Shield ability!!!!!111" and then you'll be stuck trying to remember what the equivalent class is for your faction, and what the equivalent spell is for "Dark Shield".

Looks exactly like a WoW bg in progress (fighting on roads edition), played by clumsy people clicking and keyboard turning. I don't mind.

Kudos to you for the links.

It looks fun. I want to start plotting my main now!
