Why is it making me download the client again. I've already done it twice for two separate beta weekends =(

Because in all their infinite wisdom Bioware didn't/hasn't put in a patcher that does a check for new files coming from their servers versus the files you have on your PC. The question is when are they going to implement this? There's absolutely no reason for you to re-download files that are identical to the ones currently on your machine. We're less than a month from launch and this was the final chance for them to do any mass testing and something like stress testing a patcher is extremely important.

I'm not going to expect much for the first year of the game. It's going to be just as big a shit show as WoW was I'm sure. (Even though things like what you mentioned above are completely avoidable, at least I'm prepared)

I'd expect tons of patches put in during the first few months. Happens with any new mmo.

Yep, she's the trooper. I love her voice so I might play one just for her voice acting.

Thanks.

I know the two are nothing alike, but I'm looking forward to reliving a little of the original SWG glory. If I could accept a game that flawed I'm sure I can handle TOR. Something about shooting a blaster in an MMO is really fun to me.

No patcher for such a gigantic game and such very limited beta periods is pretty funny. Smacks of something you'd see from FF14, although hopefully post release their patcher isn't such shit that you're forced to go third party, torrent and manually install the patches like the aforementioned train wreck ;p

The game does have a patcher built into the launcher, it's used in the beta for a long time now, it's only the complete new builds that require complete redownload of the client

Some questions will need to be asked if its like that on release but in a beta it's not worth getting bothered over things that are highly likely to be changed for when the game goes gold (or soon after).

You don't think the game has gone gold yet? With a month left you'd hope they have already started printing copies.

Then again, they did say physical retail copies would be severely limited in quantity during the launch window...

I often incorrectly use "go gold" to reference release day :p

I dunno, FFXIV's beta period has been pretty long.

Clunky combat? Opinions fine, but the comments on clunky combat are just absurd. Game feels great and is very responsive in all three beta builds I've tried.

I would say its still in alpha, really! You usually aren't in the process of redesigning your entire game in beta and the content level is still completely anemic over a year later. I am always baffled at how that thing was released, it's like they stability tested and shipped a vague proof of concept. It's like launching epic citadel as gears of war 4

Apologies if this has already been posted:

Makes good points and confirmed some fears i had. Dammit. I'm not imagining the game'd be what i want it to be but i wonder if the stuff in it is acceptable to me regardless my lower expectations. The next weekend will decide whether i keep my pre-order or cancel it.
My biggest concern is the lack of phasing, heavy instancing and sharding.

I do wonder what's going to replace SWTOR as my winter MP game if i won't be playing it. XBL Gold running out and won't be renewing it so no BF3 or Halo Reach for me anymore :/

I fired up the patcher from the last weekend and it's downloading 12.something GB. They said people with the client from the previous weekend should be able to patch.

Just got into the beta for this weekend apparently. I love that the 20GB client is going at T1 speeds on my 30Mb/s connection. I guess when they say I can play this weekend, they mean it.

Was trying to find a site that shows which classes were most/least popular. Anyone from beta that can answer what has been the most or least played? Where did Bounty Hunter and Trooper stack up? Since I'd rather not be one of 1 billion light-saber wielders, I'm looking for an alternative.

Hi I received notification on Friday the 11th that I was accepted to the beta, and that further information would be sent to me, but nothing so far, am I missing something?

sorry if this has already been answered.

It's smooth once you learn how it works, but in particular any class that uses the cover mechanics are hard to pick up. You press a button to get into cover and then you can't move again or you go out of cover. It's very susceptible to lag and it's not intuitive at all -- and never explained. I can't tell you how many times I saw IA's just using their out of cover mechanics over the weekend test -- especially since you have a slew of abilities that can be used out of cover.

That being said once you do learn it's easy, but the learning curve plus lag issues do not make it a walk in the park.

I'm grateful to whoever posted last night that the download was ready, as I rsvp'd and downloaded overnight. I only just received the email to rsvp now and the servers are down for maintenance which means i would have probably only got in on the sunday.

What the shit?
To simulate a launch environment, testers who have accepted new invites to weekend testing will gain testing access in staggered intervals based on when their invites were accepted. The first group of testers will be able to log on beginning on Friday morning (11/25) at 10:00AM CST (16:00 London, 17:00 Paris/Berlin). Then, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 AM CST (16:00 London, 17:00 Paris/Berlin) the second and final waves of testers will gain access. Please watch your email for details about when your phase of testing begins. This will come in a separate email from your invite.

To our existing testers: at 10:00AM CST on Friday 11/25, you will notice several new servers appear in server selection for the weekend test to accommodate all our weekend testers. You are welcome to create characters on these new servers, but please note that they will only be available for the duration of the weekend test, which ends on 11/27 at 11:59PM CST (11/28 5:59 London, 6:59 Paris/Berlin).
Some testers will only get 14 hours. WTF?

Edit: Fuck me, why did I wait until I got home from work to accept?

Might as well skip this beta test then. I only accepted yesterday (only got invite yesterday), 14 hours, I would be lucky to get off the starter Island.

And great, swtor.com doesn't work for me so can't download client either currently

WTF

why is this page SO hidden? I put in a code last week and it said I would be in, but it didn't say when. I tried logging in all weekend, and it says wrong login info (when I know it's 100% correct). I click your link again for shits and giggles and it turns out I was in but I HAD TO RSVP. what the hell is this shit? Is putting in my code not RSVP'ing enough? Ugh

downloading the new entire game patch. You would think they would have something listed on your 'My Account' page, but this is not the case because the website is a mess.

3gb to go here. Downloading at 500kbs. Still sucks to have to download the whole thing again.

Since this is my third beta weekend, I think that's it for me as I don't want to waste the 20gb in bandwidth again unless it's for a full on beta or for the early access.

So I finally found something that will encode my videos correctly so i'll start uploading soon. (latest Nvidia drivers broke WMM).

However, in my rage I deleted like 3 of the 5 hours worth of content. SO there will be less, but it's still all good.

Guys just go finish up some late 2011 releases. I deleted the beta off my HDD already. It's not worth spending time only to lose it a few weeks out from launch.

I didn't get any RSVP email. I haven't gotten any email past the first one. The only reason I managed to confirm last night was because I was checking this thread to see if we could download.

I can tell you that the notion that every enemy group you fight comes in packs of three is false. Also combat is clunky.... if you suck at it.

As for the story, that's the first time I've heard someone call the storylines mediocre. I enjoyed the BH's storyline, and I hear that the IA and Smuggler's storylines are even better.

Different strokes I suppose.

Yeah I didn't find anything about it clunky either, that was my first sigh of relief, actually, that the game movement, weight and flow actually felt professional and polished. So many MMO's faceplant hard on that catagorey, and it's very much a reason WoW remains at the forefront.

Control issues in MMOs never anything eccentric, like a Monster Hunter or Resident Evil where it's quirky on purpose, there's just usually something a bit off and cheap feeling in almost every other MMO. To me the most heart wrenching ones were the FF Online titles where character weight feels really good when going in one direction but when shuffling or fighting everything is locked down due to the insane limitations of their engines and pop up.
