* Sometimes the Vsync does not get enabled even though it is set to on in the settings menu. The 3 times I loaded the game on 2 of them the vsync did not kick in, on the 3rd one it did.
Make sure the "Windowed" option is unchecked. This is checked by default even though the game also starts in full screen by default. As far as I can tell, the only thing checking this box does is make vsync not work.

No. It's seriously ugly. I have no idea how anyone could find this game remotely good looking.

The animations are nice, and the CG is pretty nice as well. That's all the points I'm giving it.

WoW doesn't look better in any way. I'm not sure how you can say that. Even in beta with lower graphical settings and no AA, the game still looks significantly better than WoW.

Do you seriously mean this game looks worse than a 2001 game or that for the time it's coming out it's the ugliest?

I'm not saying it looks worse than a game from 2001 graphically, but combine the poor graphics engine with what I consider one of the blandest art styles I've seen to date, I'd say it looks pretty terrible overall.

Man, I don't consider TOR to be any kind of graphical powerhouse, even for an MMO, but I don't think this just looks omgeyesbleedingterrible -_-

My eyes must be bad, because I don't think that looks bad at all. No, it's not cutting edge graphics, but I find it very appealing for what its meant to be. It's a good trade off for accessibility.

Exhibit A. Look at this pop-in. I step one step forward and a big ass tree just pops in to view instantly:

swtor1.png

swtor2.png

Exibit B. Low res textures. Terrible character models (due in part to the bland art direction)
textures.png

Exibit C. Extremely low resolution shadows.

It has okay polycounts for an MMO. The foliage isn't too bad. Otherwise, it just looks flat and lifeless.

Haven't played much yet, but the combat at least plays very well. It's extremely responsive, which is the most important thing to making combat in an MMO enjoyable.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?

I have to agree with this guy.

Don't think of me as a hater - I'm absolutely killing myself waiting for this game; KOTOR is my favorite game of all time. I have the CE pre-ordered, and am psyched to play the beta this weekend after trying it out during a weekend a couple months ago.

But no question about it, the game isn't pretty. It's do-able, and it's not awful. But it's not super pleasing, and the ho-hum art direction just brings things down further.

I have an i5 2500k and a 570 and I am not happy with the performance of this title at all...WoW runs much better and somehow looks better as well.

I'm even running the game in 720P on my TV and the framerate is still noticeably low to me. What gives?

It runs at 60fps for me (as long as I force vsync with D3DOverrider), but as I said earlier, the streaming engine is abysmal. Walk 10 feet and the game streams in the world, and your fps drops to ~30-40 while it does it. It happens constantly. It's really annoying.

Rift has maybe 1/10th the budget of SW:TOR and somehow looks way better. There's not really any good excuse for the state of TOR visually.

Rift does look very pretty:

WoW may not really be much of a looker, but the art style is great, and the overall graphical engine is consistent (for example, the shadows look good, and the draw distance is nice and far...no pop-in):

Rift also runs like shit. You seem to be forgetting that this is a MMO and being accessible is a huge factor.
Runs fine for me. Having a low barrier for entry isn't a reason to not scale up well either.

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?

Thats weird, I have a i7 2600 and 460, getting 60-80 fps :(

Rift does run like shit on low-end hardware. I will admit to that. Scalability is certainly a more important factor when considering an MMO.

That being said, I don't think it excuses SWTOR's inconsistent graphic engine, poor streaming engine, and bland art style.

People seem to forget that all the graphic options are not in the game yet. Pop ins seem to be a complaint. AA and other graphical options should help a lot once they are actually implemented correctly.

I downloaded the 11 GB patch. My hard drive ran out of space while it was installing. Now I have to download the enitre 11 GB patch again.

I'm accounting for the fact that there are clearly missing graphical options, but even if you just distill TOR down to the basics the textures and models are really bad.

I'm going to be lame and cross-reference my own shots of Rift but here is what I'm coming from:

Rift also can have some very jarring pop up, and sloppy visual design because it's clear the project was rushed out on a smaller budget. For a game like TOR I expect so much more, and it's weird to see it deliver lower than competitors who came out earlier with less money and time.

What crack are you smoking? the art style is one of the best in MMOs today, certainly shits over WoW and Rift imo.

When do I get access to talent points and that second class thing? I'm level 10 but can't figure out if it's part of a quest or a vendor or what.

Started playing Bounty Hunter after leveling Jedi Counselor to lvl10. BH storyline is soo much more enjoyable. Jedi Counselor storyline is really boring and unintresting. You have to be hc jedi fanatic to get any enjoyment out of that. Starting area is also less boilerplate feeling for BH and just overall i'm having a lot more fun playing now.

Is Jennifer Hale doing the voice for female BH? Whoever it is, it's pretty awesome.

Go to the fleet/star base thing after the first planet and you'll find a quest to get your advanced class.

Not every MMO can look as high-fidelity as XIV, but I honestly think after the ini tweaks I used, SWTOR looks great and is only going to look better as it comes out of beta and into the full release.

Guys, I got in for the weekend, but never got an email telling me what time I could play. Did I not get in b/c servers are full or can I view my play time somewhere? Thanks.

I think I have a bugged character. I cannot get my Jedi Knight on Cosmic Turbine to log in at all, ever other character on that server can log in.
