Not sure if any of you played any mmo near launch, seems quite bug-free compared to other games at launch, especially wow.

How can anyone argue that WoW had less bugs at launch than this? WoW was completely unplayable for weeks.

Wasn't that because of the servers though? They did have smaller scaled beta tests for it. While server issues may make the game unplayable to the same extent as bugs, they don't stem from the same thing.

I've had an absolute mess of a time trying to make it in. First the launcher wouldn't start, then it thought I was in the wrong territory, then I didn't have enough hard drive space for some reason, and when I closed it to free some space up it decided it needed to redownload the entirety of Main Assets 1.

Last time I got into a weekend I couldn't even get the entire game downloaded before the time was up. This time I went in with all of it already installed, but I guess it couldn't be that easy!

Hopefully you'll be able to tweak the in-game screenshots feature to have better quality like you can in WoW. But not bad for a start with their tool.

Huh, so for this beta I decided to give Trooper a try, thought it would be boring but the story was suprisingly good. One big difference I found between getting my trooper to 10 and my inquisitor to 10 was that I no trouble getting to lvl 10 even without doing any of the heroics, just via quests, I even missed a few bonus quests. On the other, my inquisitor did every quest possible and both heroics and was still only able to get to lvl 9, had to grind out ~1/3 of a level to get to 10.

My question is, did they tweak the xp of the starting worlds since the last weekend beta? Or has Ordo always been easier/gives more xp than Korriban?

I'm doing Inquisiitor too and it seems like they're just not enough missions on Korriban compared to Tython. The quality of the missions are better but there's nowhere near enough to get you to level 10 it seems.

Game runs about as well as WoW to me, maybe a bit better considering the ~20-25 FPS I got during Firelands dailies and raids due to their broken smoke and particle system (which is STILL bugged and STILL can single digit you at bad camera angles). (i5 750 @ 4ghz, 560ti)

WoW hasn't been a well scaling, performance beast since BC. The new streaming system they slapped on the engine alone where you'd have Dalaran trying to pull from four zones at once put a stop to that.

MMO's are always going to have some quirk, especially if you're trying to ultra them out. Unless you're in an empty area or indoors there's almost nothing you can do to hit a steady 60 in basically any MMO that's under going any kind of stress.

As far as WoW looking better, no fucking way. The modern environments in WoW look solid but If I never have to look at WoW's character models again it'll be too soon. I can't believe Blizzard isn't updating the classic models for Pandaria. Another two years of rushed, overclocked N64 looking launch models running around.

Maybe with their billion dollar income they finally could make a new robe mesh for Pandaria? Would be nice to not be wearing the same elastic-looking shit I've been wearing since 2004 with a new, overwrought texture but signs point to no. :p

As far as TOR goes, I'm having great fun with it as a co-op game and I'm really impressed with how polished it is in vague little areas (Spectating, misc controls and bits and bobs). Game actually has some elite areas, actually died a few times, story has been pretty fun. Really doubt I'd stick to it long term, as I just don't see EA incubating the project like they should. EA LOVES to run MMO's into the ground, but I'm willing to pony up for a launch copy just to blast through for a good co-op campaign at the least.

Wasn't that because of the servers though? They did have smaller scaled beta tests for it. While server issues may make the game unplayable to the same extent as bugs, they don't stem from the same thing.

WoW had bugs up the ass for the first half of classic, it was a different era of design, the black ages really but anyone could tell WoW was thrown out the door to make holiday 2004. I wouldn't even play the class I wanted, Warlock, because almost everything associated with it was bugged.

I really wish the female body types were more than skinny, curvy, taller+curvy, and more busty+curvy. Include some sliders or something sheesh. At least other mmos have more than Variations on Human for races to offset this bullshit

They said at BlizzCon they're in the process of upgrading all of the other race's models to the same level as the Pandarens.

They said they wanted to, they've been saying that since the WOTLK beta that they wanted to go back and retexture and remesh the classic characters.

I'm sure it'll occur SOME day, and I'm sure when it happens my Mage will still be wearing that same fucking robe model. :lol

No, they said they are working on it. It was in the art panel. They have already started to do new character models with the same number of polygons as the Pandaren.

I'm still playing. Game is slightly warming up to me, but I'm still quite irritated by the initial shock of it not being amazing >.<.

If combat isn't intuitive, that's a problem. Do you know how many people try WoW and quit early on because they feel THAT game isn't intuitive, when it basically holds your hand for you now? It's staggering.

If combat doesn't work and feel polished right away for someone who's been playing MMO's for over 10 years, there's a problem. This game is not ready for release.

It'd be interesting if you had some actual basis or substance behind your claim. If you've played wow, how tor can be unintuitive is beyond me. I'm no wow hater, I love wow, I play it all the time (just read the wow threads) but this is basically exactly as good in that regard, so I don't get the issues.

Came home for lunch and logged in and created a character with zero problems.

Got home from work a little while ago and logged back in with zero problems.

I'll have to get used to all the mechanics of the game but I think I'm going to enjoy this one.

I wish I could control my character with a controller. I hate WASD + mouse. I might have to mess with the settings and find something I like better.

My PC runs the game fine and FPS are good. 3 ghz Core2 Duo E8400 4GB RAM HD 5700 Windows 7.

I think it's pretty great for what it is. I'm having a darn good time, but what it is is very safe, so that's not really something that's going to floor me by default. It's certainly not unintuitive or unpolished though, IMO. I'm really surprised by just how well it flows and controls and how easy it is to pick up considering that even in modern MMO's how rare cohesiveness is.

If you've played WoW and a Bioware game you're almost entirely acquainted with it beyond it's own personal quirks and it all has such a nice weight and feel to it, which a lot of us folks in the WoW thread agree is just something that really keeps that game together and going on the high end.

It'll take some good encounter design to really bring it out though. It's up to EA to not fuck this thing over. I like it enough to buy it as a co-op game, but I'm not planning on a bright future just because of the publisher.

We're already comparing two games in here so why not a third? I find it difficult to get excited about this game after having now played it some. This is particularly true in light of Guild Wars 2 which from every gameplay preview looks absolutely phenomenal. Of course I always get the sense when playing SWTOR that I've played this game before, for the most part.

SteveO409

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?
The game kept me captivated so far into the world and I'm only level 5. Usually just skip all quest text/etc in other games but not for this game. No issues besides not being able to quit to desktop from in game lol

The writing is all pretty samey to me of Bioware games thus far, Mass Effect and KOTOR largely, the best part as per usual is just being a dick. Random punches and blaster kills in conversations rule the day.

I always thought the best writing in an MMO was FFXI, but you had to slog through so much shit and there was so little legitimate story content in the game it's not a shocker what was actually there was good, the entire game's narrative work is probably half of a zone at best in a modern MMO. Still, the best parts were the class quests and the like anyway.

WoW's writing is phenomenal when it's trying to be funny and self-depreciating and some of the worst I can think of at all other times, a shame considering Frozen Throne was actually pretty engaging. I do wish Blizzard had a series where they tried to shake it up some, without shitty Metzen writing. At least DIII, more colorful or not, isn't as outright fugly as (non-Northrend) WoW or SCII though.

I played a Sith Inquisitor to level 9. I'm still torn between Assassin or Sorcerer although my sons really want me to use a double bladed lightsaber. I'm thinking I will go madness tree, a shared tree like that screams gimped to me but I'm going to try it out. I guess its pointless to really worry about given this a two day deal.

The only technical issue I've had so far is not being able to actually quit or logout of the game I had to Alt+F4. My PC is a year old, quad 3.4, Radeon 5850, framerate seems good, graphics are fine. I had to set the graphics to 1920 x 1080, defaulted me lower. I'm been pretty impressed so far as far as lag, mob availability etc.

I found that leveling the inquisitor got dang hard around level 8/9 like the previous poster. The story quest was the only thing really available to me and it was i think level 11, had trouble completing it but I think things will get easier now that I have some extra muscle.

I'm really enjoying the voice acting, much more so then I thought I would and in a first for any MMO for me I'm really paying attention and enjoying the story arc so far. I wasn't planning on getting this but now I think I might pick it up. Will do a Republic Commando for Jennifer Hale voice work probably or whichever class is deemed to have the best story arc.

Played for 7 hours today. No lag, no crashes, pleasantly surprised.

A droid came up on my hologram once and I swear it was the same voice actor as C-3PO, it had to be.

That's kinda funny. I played a Consular and barely made it half way through nine after doing the first planet, but I made it to ten and change pretty easily on my Sith Warrior.

lol...yeah at times when you quit it quits, at other times it just puts you back into the game. Like you, am enjoying it and have not skipped any of the quest/txt stuff at all.

I was able to play for about 4 hours or so and I am really enjoying the game. Overall, teh voice acting and the graphics are pretty damn good. But I am having some issues that I hope they can fix in-time for release.

* I and many in the game have reported what looks like a dead pixel on the screen. It appears in the upper left quadrant of the screen. Many people I chatted with in-game reported the same thing and in the same exact area. My TV has no dead pixels, but in this game, it appears to be a graphical issue since others are reporting the same thing in the same area.

* Draw distance and pop-in. I have a 2x580 Nvidia GPU's and have everything set to max everything, but it appears the in-game setting to max the draw distance is not enough. In several areas I get alot of tree popping in the distance. I am sure there is a setting in the directories to alter this, but it should be in-game. Also notice some slight texture pop in, especially when te game transitions to a conversations.

* The issue where when you try to quit teh game, it does not quit needs to be fixed. Pretty annoying that you have to go to the task manager to stop the program to exit the game.

* Sometimes the Vsync does not get enabled even though it is set to on in the settings menu. The 3 times I loaded the game on 2 of them the vsync did not kick in, on the 3rd one it did.

* Some of the shadows are horrid. Seems like some of the enviromental ones look really good, but character cast shadows or shadows cast on your character are extremly low resolution.

* No in game AA settings, even though there is a drop down option for it, but it is not selectable to set the AA setting.

Even though these are some issues, overall, I am still enjoying hte hell out of the game. Looking forward to some more fixes and hope that the code we are playing is not final.

+1 for the Wire reference.

Anyone that thought this was going to unseat WoW is crazy.

Like...owning seven or eight cats crazy.
Yes, but that was true regardless of how TOR turns out. Nothing is going to 'kill' WoW. I mean, Everquest is still around, yet WoW is going to get killed off?

Played another hour. I'm done with this game...

...because I don't want to spoil it when I play it day one! I was totally down on this game from all the videos, but in action it's great.

1. yes, and it'll more than likely be fixed by launch. Wasn't present in other builds I was in for.

2. It's an MMO, so in the game world it's to be expected due to data streaming constraints, unless they offload more of it to be clientside. However, for the cutscenes, I think it's like it's re-rendering everything fast when you start them instead of using what's there already. This happens quickly, but yeah, it's still noticable, is is much better than it was 2 months ago anyways.

3. Vsync stuff is weird. ini tweaks are your friend, though yes, they should be in-game.

4. Ini tweaks fix this, though they have a lot of the more advanced features disabled for the beta it still seems.

5. No AA has been explicity stated by the for the beta. It will be in the release, and you can actually force it right now in the beta if you wish, but yes, release it will be in and clickable.

They've come a long way since I last played, and I have a lot more faith in what they'll be doing.

Logged a few hours on this as a Bounty Hunter now. Seems ok and had no problems whatsover.

Hell of a disconnect between the starting rooms and the complete warzone outside i thought. Other than that, i thought the missions were ok, better than standard MMO fare, definately. Darkside/Lightside choices were good, not sure if they affect anything in the longrun though.

I like the artstyle, but the graphics are kinda bad. Some textures definately need uprezzing.

Having lots of fun so far. Only level 5 with my trooper but this game is looking great for a Beta. I can't think of any problems thus far although I haven't tried grouping and my lower level is holding me back. Only 1 bug was some weird animation on a mission giver but I don't know if that was the game or my card.

Anywho, voice acting, battle, and look are pretty sweet. And I'm not a WoW fan.

Just made a character and my name wasn't taken. They must have been mistaken.

EDIT: Izayoi called me the Londa of SWTOR. Now that's just mean!

Played for an hour and I must say it's better than I've expected. Too bad the "kill x" quests will probably make me quit after a few days.

Skel1ingt0n

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Ugh... I don't know what the deal is. I started downloading on Tuesday, and everytime I come back to my computer it says there is a different amount of download remianing... 11GBs, 2GBs, 4GBs, 9GBs, 13GBs, etc...

It's been downloading for more than three days straight now. I tried restarting my computer yesterday afternoon... but it didn't do anything. STILL downloading.

First time I got in the beta a couple months ago, it only took about 24hours (yes, I have really slow internet). I'm downloading at 300kbps, so while not fast, it should definitely be done by now.

Suggestions?

This is one of the ugliest games I've played in the past 10 years. The art style is awful, and the graphics are laughable. Even the 7 year old World of Warcraft looks significantly better, graphically (though the engine has received updated, obviously).

The game's streaming engine is also terrible. Constant frame drops as it loads new areas.
