What about this bit from the star wars wiki:

A group of ancient Sith spirits, led by Marka Ragnos, declared both Kun and Qel-Droma the leaders of the new Sith Empire. Exar, the more powerful of the two, was appointed the Dark Lord of the Sith, with Ulic as his Sith apprentice, and both were anointed with unknown Sith symbols on their foreheads. With this resolution of the leadership dispute, the Great Sith War had brutally begun.
That kind of makes it sound like other Sith put an actual stamp of approval on the whole thing.

Bioware is saying otherwise kind of now it seems since they going back and adding in new material. He was though always referred to as a dark Jedi and not a sith like the others in the series. He was the catalyst that brought back the sith though. Believe the site video said he wasn't a "true" sith.

By "true" Sith, could they be talking about the race? I remember that in BioWare's video timeline, but I always assumed that when they referred to him as not being a true Sith. I assumed, perhaps wrongly so, that Exar Kun was the first real Sith not of the Sith race.

By his time most of the true original Sith are supposed to be gone, of course Bioware decided to bring them back and even make them a playable race with the purebloods. In the TOR novels it seems that pureblood sith have largely been replaced by human sith as the new "pure" sith.

In many places before Exar Kun was referred to as just a dark jedi and not a sith, I think people have kind of tossed it around since he was pretty much just given some power from a Sith spirit, but didn't really go through the trials and training of a true Sith. Bioware has been mucking around with the original Tales story lines for a while now.

I am fiending for a good MMO this year. Rift didn't do it for me. I'm close to rejoining FFXI after a many, many year absence. T_T

If we're lucky, maybe TERA or Guild Wars 2 comes out before SWTOR (though I'm sticking with SWTOR cause that's where all my friends are going).

I doubt either of those make it out this year though. =(

We have some quite interesting weeks ahead of us. Thursday (GTTV), Friday (update), Monday (EA press), Tue-Thursday (E3) and Friday (update). Any of those have the potential to bring us closer to the sacred beta. One of the updates will most likely be the Consular video although I was certain it would've been released today.

Tera is likely to get bumped to 2012, and GW2 seems locked for 2012 as well now.

Are there any "pet" classes in the game?

Outside of some of the classes like Smuggler which can deploy some droids, there doesn't really seem to be any pets, likely because you have your companion characters. With major pets you would have a small army of npcs

Wow really? I suppose that would make sense if you didn't want to content with SWTOR. And it would make complete sense to have this out this year. Carry on EA. Blow us away.

They all have companions, which are pet-like AIs you bring along. They're more advanced though as they can contribute with dialogue, romances and crafting (crew skills).

I'm still mostly interested in the Republic side of things when it comes to character. But I suppose making a chaotic neutral (or something) type of Sith would be kind of fun. If they give you those types of options.

Oh, okay. Although the pureblood sith race that BioWare included in the game isn't fully purebood. I'm fairly certain that BioWare mentioned that the sith race in this game aren't purely sith because they all have mixed blood throughout the generations of contact with other species. The actual sith race that was completely pureblood is still gone.

And humans and this new sith race are pretty much the two non-discriminated races within the Sith empire. I think the third race that comes closest to acceptance is the Chiss. Hopefully that will come through with the game, because it would be an interesting dynamic to be an alien race that's affiliated with the Empire but isn't fully accepted.

All classes in the Empire are capable of making light side decisions, although I'm guessing kindness will be perceived a lil differently.

Such as exiling an enemy jedi instead of outright chopping his head off.

And it also depends on the class. A lightsided decision for an Imperial Agent may be making a decision that he or she believes is best for the Empire than what the Empire directly tells the Agent to do.

I've been waiting for the trooper progression video, it did not disappoint. Can't say which branch I want to take though...

Just to drop a note on the light side empire stuff.

the light side sith inquisitor would be equal to what Palpatine was at face value, a guy who tried to make the best decisions to help his people, but there will be nowhere near the jedi knights possible sappyness.

"I'm sorry for betraying you Jedi, how can I make it up to you?"

"Just be good, help the poor, and hug every baby *halo pops over the jedi's head*"

Exactly. I kinda wish they didn't refer to it as "light side/dark side" though. I dunno, it just seems like even a "light sided" Sith Inquisitor is still dark side, he just goes about it a different way.

From the TOR novels, the human Sith look down on all the others. It's not a purity thing apparently but just a racist thing as majority of the sith higher ups are made up of all humans apparently. Near human imperials and sith are looked down upon by the human sith, though it doesn't seem to mean much other than the others don't like you. The non human imperials though, including the near human races are treated like dirt though.

If I had to guess, we'll get a beta announcement then for a date very soon after.

So even the pureblooded Sith are looked down upon? Wow. Personally, I would think the purblooded Sith would try to do the reverse to the humans (although I imagine it is because, as you put it, the human Sith are the ones in charge).

Hype folks, hype. I'm ready for some good news and more footage of the game. I'm expecting beta dates and a target release date. I'm starting to get that MMO itch again.

Yep and we will of course get another nice Cinematic. They need to get the preorder ball rolling too. They need a nice Collectors Edition so it can sit next to my SWG one.

Oooo, good point. I still got my Warhammer Online CE to sport. A shame the game went down as it did :/

I've had it. It's why I'm playing WoW. However, there is something to be said about BioWare's idea of context within the missions/quests. The leveling in WoW is a lot better in Cataclysm but it could be so much more if Blizzard actually cared about the story. What a shame. As soon as TOR comes, I am dropping WoW and jumping onto the TOR train.

Yep the progression videos have been done well.

I hope they break down and do a lifetime subscription fee. Rather just pay 200 bucks and be done with fees

Looks like something from a (new) CG trailer.

Apparently not in the game. The opening of the SI quest line should explain it although I've been trying not to spoil the story for myself!

Yeah, I'm getting a younger Malgus vibe from this as well. I wonder what reasons they could have for airing the trailers in a non-chronological order. Perhaps a big reveal.
Revan as Emperor?

That is possible. Would be a pretty huge moment

I highly doubt, that they'll give a precise date. 4 weeks ago they were unable to give their investors any real details (7 month window). I don't see what has changed in the time that has passed. If they're still afraid of tipping off the competition, then I doubt we'll see the actual date before PAX Prime or Gamescon. My "problem" with BioWare is, that they haven't denied the possibility of a release date at E3. If they don't come out and say something before E3, then shit will hit the fan. People are getting restless. Just look at the latest update. Some people didn't care for it even though it's one of the best character progression videos. They just want that date. I guess the only way around it to initiate the next phase in the beta.

I agree. I think they are moving into a stage where the population is growing very restless and soon will turn to outright hostility if more isnt said. I would wager from E3 there is only a 5 month or so window til launch unless it slips again.

Again if we don't hear something from E3 regarding a release date like say a particular month or atleast the starting date of open beta then chances are this is going to slip into next year. This is THE major place for them to do and considering September/October is only 4/5 months away, it's now or never. They need to do it relatively early for marketing and hype purposes. November is way too cramped for anything else and Bioware would be insane to try for it. December is a possibility but I'm sure that's still far from ideal. I remember someone mentioning that they heard December 21st as the release date somewhere on SWTOR forums but that would be crazy. Interesting but crazy.

LowParry

Member
They'd be crazy not to release it this year. Seriously though, what chance does Guild Wars 2 or TERA have up against SWTOR? I could see Guild Wars 2 being the actual threat with their launch time but I don't think that game is even coming out this year.
