From watching the stream, I noticed that it seems like most of the time only one MOB in a group drops loot. Saves from having to click on them all. I also like that you take on more than one at a time.

The sword battles line up nicely too.

THE GAME HAS INVENTORY SLOTS. WOW CLONE CONFIRMED.

Seriously?

Ok so Ill probably be late. But wow at the effect Warcraft has had. A game I got a good 4 years of enjoyment out of is quickly becoming damn near something I hate. Not because of the game itself, but because of how many people seem to think Wow is and was the only fucking MMO ever.

Action bars? Backpacks? Are you serious? MMO genre STAPLES well and long before Wow even likely entered development. Jesus Christ.

Yep wow has really become the bane of my existence MMO wise. Frankly WoW has done more damage to the genre then good.

SWTOR is being compared to WoW for a reason.

There's a big difference between comparing the two and then saying its a clone. Clone imply it has nothing that differentiates it from its predecessor.

The excessive hyperbole used in this thread just to slander a game is quite disturbing.

Its just the people who are annoyed were seriously looking for a game that distance itself completely from any MMO we've seen so far.

Personally, I'm quite glad they've put so much effort into improving the story element many MMO's disregard.

I enjoy the companion character elements they've implement. The personalized story arcs, romance arcs and the story arc of your companion characters.

The crew skills seem like they make crafting less of a "sit, watch the loading bar move and spend an hour failing before you get one right" and allow you to at least multi-task by micromanaging your CC's to deal with the sit & wait operation for you.

I love the idea that my character's morality alignment can have its own effect. You can be bad on the good side or good on the bad side, expanding your story/dialouge options.

I like the space element they've provided though I know many are upset its done on rails and wished it met to their personal standards. But I think its really well done even if its a rail shooter. But to each his/her own... *shrug*

The stylized art approach might be somewhat similar to the concept WoW was going for but one could argue its following the Clone Wars look for the environments and characters.

Its strikingly similar to WoW in the coloured tier armor/weapons, But I'm not bothered by that and anyone else has every right to be upset by it.

The arena PvP is something out of WoW & Warrhammer but I'm not particularly upset.

They skill tree system is something similar to WoW I suppose....

The UI looks similar to WoW's I suppose...

The faction class system is done in WoW as well but thats just getting petty now....

The gameplay doesn't strike me as something WoW invented but people will argue.....

Either way, this is not a WoW clone.....

Its similar in many aspects but its far from close in others.

I don't compare it at all to WoW, I just think it's unfortunate that the game does literally nothing new. At all. I can't think of a single thing this game does that excites me and it an original concept.

Fully voiced MMO? Alright. But from what I can see, it's just like every other Bioware game and it does nothing for me personally.

When I think of a next generation MMO, I want three things out of it:

1.) FUN gameplay, both in terms of combat and game mechanics
2,) Beautiful, immersive worlds
3.) Tons of stuff to do

SWTOR seems to have decent (but seriously dated) mechanics but the graphics are completely inexcusable and even the gameplay looks dull.

I can see getting burnt out on it real early if I even try it at all.

Thats perfectly acceptable. Everyone has a right to their opinions.

I personally will be immersing my self in the story for the most part. When and if I get burnt out from literally going over every aspect of them games story (200 something hours of story content per class).

I'll either wait to see if I like the probable expansion or move on to another game. Because after all, its just a game.

Might try out Tera or Rift (don't have the time right now) too at some point...

^_^

Ok I just saw a GW2 trailer for the first-time after people talking the game up to high heaven. My question is after watching that, what the hell is Bioware doing with EA's money. VA can't be taking up most of that insane budget. Is the scale that much bigger than GW2?

GW2 looks good, but is also going to be a limited in scope MMO like GW1 was. Also backend operation of large scale MMO's is much more complicated in scope in comparison to GW.

Scale of TOR is supposed to be huge with all the different planets, and it's not just VA work that has to be done for the game, but the hundreds of hours of cutscenes. Also remember that each class is supposed to have it's own unique full length single player like experience with unique dialogue, characters, missions, etc for each of the 8.

You will also have higher budget going towards lot of high end production elements as well as licensing costs associated with the Star Wars brand which is not cheap.

Thanks for that. I figured the licensing costs would be a huge chunk. Have we seen what the cutscenes look like in game? Are they just like in the gameplay leak where some guy rushes up and injects you with something or are they full CG cutscenes?

Cutscenes are the usual bioware style like Mass Effect games, in game. The two CG cinematics they put out though alone apparently cost quite a bit by themselves. I would imagine that majority of the budget (whatever it really is) is for the game and not the licensing, but it's obviously going to be millions along with LFL getting their cut of all the profits.

Actually, Guild Wars 2 is an actual MMO this time with one of the largest MMO teams on the planet making content for it.

NCSoft is very serious with the sequel.

I will believe it when we see it, to me GW1 was full of promises and hype claims that to me were never met. Also a big thing to me will be how well they support the game after release with content and not depend on constant expansions. They would have to see much larger sales of the game to heavily support the game over the long term as other MMOs. I look forward to it but have my reservations about it. People are acting like it's the 2nd coming or something.

I just listened to the latest episode of TOROCast, where they talked about the content of the leaked videos. I wonder how BioWare will handle this considering, that they've been swinging the banhammer on the official forum and monitoring the fan sites (deleting forum threads).

i even got a warning for referring to the second video as "the one with the SI".

They're definitely bringing down the banhammer. A guy on betacakes who was only posting info somehow got banned even though he never gave his name and used a fake email address.

I mainly go there to find new articles/impressions and to read the dev tracker. The other posts I purposely ignore as >90% of them are reposts and spam (much like the post above).

I'm still not sure if having Jedi being a playable class is a good idea. Its like having space marines playable in a W40K mmo. Know what I mean? Ok for single player RPG or action game but..

I remember the Holocron craze in SWG. I didn't understand how and why people wanted to unlock their Jedi character slot soooo much.

I was having more fun with my ranger looking for good quality critters meat and skin to sell to chiefs, armor crafters.. Or just simply having fun in the game. (That ended when I discovered how fucking awesome combat medics were at pvp ownage and ditched my Ranger).

So far no other online game gave me such freedom (SWG pre cu/NGE), although EvE online come to a very 2nd place.

Love Star wars, will most likely sub to the game, but it won't fill the hole that is left since SWG NGE distaster (Ahazi server represent!)

Sorry for the poor english, doing my best.

Thing to remember is that they are not treating Jedi/Force Users as superior to everyone else. They are taking a similar approach to the classes as was done with the pen and paper Star Wars RPG's that the characters are "heroic" level characters like in the movies who could fight off armies of enemies and survive the impossible over and over again. The classes are meant to be equal based on their level. A Jedi should be superior to most mundane beings, but the game assumes that player characters are named special characters who can go toe to toe with one another. NPC's of course will fall in droves to your heroes.

SWG tried to be "realistic" and all it did was piss people off and make things unbalanced. Here it shouldn't be a problem as half the classes are force users and the non force users are supposed to be on par.

DevTracker is really cool. Everything else is just hyperbole.

Did I mention I can't wait for this game? Going to love creating a Qui-Gon type of "living force" character.

If you've ever had any doubt in the animations, watch those jtv vids on Tython. The sword fighting connects nicely and there are a large variety of strikes, parries, defences, etc.

Wow, I go away & a fucking awesome beta leak happens. And nice Q&A with a beta tester!

And new testing with a new build starting...

I just want to play this game already. This wait is harsh.

edit: damn good stuff. Was the first video saved by anyone?

Agreed, I think they know how awesome the Consular's going to be, which is why they're keeping info about it 'til last.

That impressed me greatly.

It all connects really well. Misses and hits are clearly visible, blaster fire is reflected appropriately, etc. The KOTOR games had this too, but it's on a whole other level now. The attack rounds are much less visible and stilted.

Was it the same group of testers? I'm assuming my invite got lost since there's no way I wouldn't get one.

Incredibly stupid to talk about the closed alpha/beta if your an ex tester. The t and c states multiple times the punishment for doing so, and the long term effect it will have if you enjoy bioware games...
