I've always been conservative in my estimates for a release date, but I truly believe that they will launch this game in 2011 :)

Yeah, I'm getting a younger Malgus vibe from this as well. I wonder what reasons they could have for airing the trailers in a non-chronological order. Perhaps a big reveal.
Revan as Emperor?
If you've been following the holonet timeline on the main site, that's been revealed in reverse chronological order also.

They'd be crazy not to release it this year. Seriously though, what chance does Guild Wars 2 or TERA have up against SWTOR? I could see Guild Wars 2 being the actual threat with their launch time but I don't think that game is even coming out this year.

If your a fan of Star Wars, then I think the logical idea is to swing to playing SWTOR over any other MMO being released within a year.

But there are plenty of gamers that refuse to play a sub, or in most cases, refuse to pay for more than one (i.e anything other than WoW). I think GW2 has a lot of hope after Rift did quite well. Gameplay is just king and its looks very awesome

So even the pureblooded Sith are looked down upon? Wow. Personally, I would think the purblooded Sith would try to do the reverse to the humans (although I imagine it is because, as you put it, the human Sith are the ones in charge).

I would imagine some would somewhat revere the purebloods in a way, but I guess since humans rule the majority of the Sith, there is lots of animosity amongst others. I don't know if the games are really going to follow the heavy xenophobic nature the TOR novels put forth.

Revan as Emperor?

Well unless
Revan actually destroyed the Emperor and turned bad once again, it seems clear that the Emperor is someone else from the holonet. And the upcoming Revan novel sounds like it's going to involve Revan going after the hidden Emperor

You're probably right. I've tried to avoid the synopsis, but finally caved in.

Dromund Kaas is a beacon of efficiency and discipline. With a fully militarized society, police actions are rarely needed.

Kaas looks awesome.

Has anyone read whether or not we will be able to make characters of different factions on the same server?

Q & A #5 is up on BetaCake.

This should keep everyone interested until more stuff becomes available next week at E3.
By stuff i'm implying a lot of things, might be footage, might be interviews or might even be dates. *wink*

I wonder what exactly he is hinting at. I suppose the webmaster of a leak site could have some inside info, but I have no idea why he wouldn't just spill the beans.

He doesn't have any information regarding a release date nor does anyone in the beta. The stuff that becomes available next week is the stuff from BioWare and some people are expecting a release date.

Hopefully it's only a timed exclusivity deal for the new Origin service. EA keeps it on Origin for a number of months and then puts it on Steam and other services.

EDIT: After rereading that WSJ article I guess we are screwed.

I don't know, I still think there's a chance for a late 2011 release. Mainly because I don't see BioWare releasing both Mass 3 and TOR within a month or within weeks from each other.

The way that Devpost framed it, with the early track and all, makes it seem like we're weeks if not months away from a release date. If we know nothing by August then it's almost certainly slipping into 2012. Hell even July is somewhat pushing it.

Stephen Reid said that there'll be 2 updates besides the 3 Friday updates on the site. One of them is already given in the Origin exclusivity. I imagine the other has to do with digital pre-order details. The EA store need a big exclusive hit for when it opens. Either they go with BF3 or SWTOR.
Oh, and the release date is still 2011: Don't ever think we're not hard at work every day, and moving towards a date... that's currently in 2011.

Yeah I have already lost all enthusiasm for E3 as far as this game goes now. No release date etc means a waste of time. Sorry if your game is supposedly this close to launch you do a hell of alot more than this.

The excuse we dont want our competition to know too much is a load. WoW is their only real competitor and Blizzards not doing shit this fall

Road to E3: Star Wars: The Old Republic

What We Expect at E3

At previous events and special "immersion days," the press has had extensive access to Star Wars: The Old Republic's introductory areas. At E3 the focus will be on high-level content such as raids. Any experienced MMO player will tell you that the level-cap is where the meat of an MMO begins, and a well-developed endgame is one of the most important parts of player retention. We want to see how BioWare plans to keep players hooked when story progression slows or comes to a halt, and raids, which put an emphasis on group cooperation and continued (though incremental) progression are an integral part of that. Oh, and we also want a release date.

I feel like the wind is out of my sails right now. I really had my fingers crossed for a release date announcement at E3. Shit, at this rate, I'll just be happy to see the game out before 2012.
Hmm, seems like the perfect place to announce something in relation to it. Maybe it'll be DRM-free. That Origin news really came out of nowhere. I'm hoping for some kind of incentives.

No release date eh? Smells like 2012. :( Poopy.
I thought that being the money and time sink that TOR has turned out to be, they HAVE to release it in 2011...

If they delay it now it means that they intend to blow another massive wad of cash and development time on it. And by the time they are finally done, the scene has changed.

Well, a lot of people over on their forums are pretty upset about it. Nothing like putting Bioware on blast but it seems everyone before was expecting some kind of reveal of a date. I dunno. Maybe we'll still get beta times roughly. But yeah, I think this game needs to be out by this year. I mean hell, we're not looking at FFXIV quality of a launch here.

Judging by the leaked videos the game is already in a better state than FFXIV, christ that game was awful. :) Wonder if they have started to charge for that clusterfuck yet.

I am starting to think there won't be a release date announcement at E3 but I think it more likely that there will be a beta (open or not) announcement. Or at least talk about ramping up the amount of people in beta. ....I want in! :D

They send out another email 2 days ago reminding the Europeans to prepare for European Game Testing.

Angry rant incoming(aimed at whiners on the official forums) ;

Really?

F**king really? People are bitching over this? Why on earth do you want to doom this game before it's even out? Did you learn nothing from WAR/AOC/FF4/SWG/Others?

Once they release it in half finished state, it's over. After that it will just be broken dreams and sad sad star wars fans paying 15 bucks a month for beta.

People are so impatient and annoying, it's incredible. Play some other games FFS, and relax. You know EA and Lucas wants nothing better than to ride the hype train to retail and get the short term benefits of a hyped products. they will buy this in droves and they will make lots of money in the beginning. Historically these companies are not good at thinking in the long term(Read: see both companies history with MMOs).

Bioware should be commended for keeping the investor sharks at bay and trying to fix this ship before it sinks. The combat already looks like something from post Horizon days, we know as well that they will get bitch slapped for it, unless TERA/B&S/GW2 all becomes utter crap. Besides their story angle they seem to ride it directly into familiar WoW territory and plenty of people will burn out soon enough.

So logically what is left to do? They can either make the most tight and polished awesome traditional MMORPG known to man, a spiritual successor to the WoW model of we-can-have-all-different-Types-of-MMOers-Game, or they can go back and spent two more years and redesign it to something unique and different... Or follow impatient fanboys fabulous idea of just releasing it now for their short term excitement / long term dissapointment.

Honestly it's no wonder that MMORPGs are stuck in such a quagmire of mediocreness. It's like a women who keeps going back to her violent husband. It's almost like MMO gamers subconsciously want to be abused and disappointed.

Don't see why everyone cares about Steam, when its pretty much useless for MMO's as they all use external launchers and patching is done outside of Steam.

They just want to buy all their games from one location without having to use another client.

To be honest the game should be on Steam as well but it doesn't bother me all that much since I'll be picking up the retail CE.

Hey everyone. Been on vacation in Greece. Looking forward to catching up when I get back next week.

I don't have the most ideal set up right now. So lots of new info is coming out but no release date? Bah....
