State of Play - June 02, 2022

It's interesting to me that this is a part of the Official Summer Games Fest lineup. Microsoft is also on the official lineup.

E3 is dead yet we still living large in June.

I dont know if im hyped or not, i wanted the full Playstation Showcase 1hr+ experience, now the chances we are getting one near the end of June is very thin no?

sadly its more likely they have a trailer at summer games fest for GoW and its release and do a larger one in september than anything more in june.

I dont know, it sounds weird to have a trailer and release date reveal for your biggest game be on a 3rd party conference.

God of War won't be in this show -- may get a release date story teaser but very unlikely. It'll get a dedicated State of Play with a release date around the end of this month or early July if the September's release date speculation is correct.

Full first-party PlayStation showcase in September. Sony likes to control the messaging during the Holiday season, hence the big showcases in September.

I know it's a Third Party + VR event, but one thing I think would be really cool and timely for Sony to highlight in this State of Play would be one mainstream game announcement running on Unreal Engine 5.

I don't know if they could get anybody but indies to bite, (everybody big wants to announce their titles at their own event and/or be part of Sony's actual Showcase event that's probably in Aug/Sept,) but it'd be a significant event to have a "true next-gen game" (not a term I love but I'm sure most get what I mean), a commercial game that uses the new Unreal and fully utilizes its Nanite/Lumen feature set and sets a clear indicator of what future games will do with the technology. Matrix Awakens kind of already was that (and was playable,) but that's a 30GB / single-map / limited mechanics / small-scripted-sequence demo. I really want to see what pro developers will be making as a full production to put on a disc and sell to consumers using this new technology.
I think Avatar's PS5 gameplay will be there. Not UE5, but current-gen only and a proper AAA title.

What is with all of the pessimism?

Sony usually goes out of their way to clarify not to expect certain games when announcing an SoP in order to temper expectations.
Nowhere does it say there won't be any 1st party titles present, nor that it will be indie-focused (which they typically specify whenever it is.)

There is pessimism as almost every single state of play has been at *best* mediocre garbage and at worst absolute fucking trash.

Sony has failed repeatedly to do these online "directs" any justice. I would say ever since their second to last E3, they have routinely failed to provide fantastic or interesting presentations.

Now I *hope* I am wrong. I want to be wowed and Surprised, but "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". I am tired of being fooled.

To my fellow PlayStation faithful, keep expectations in check, there is yet to be a State of Play that really knocks our socks off and this won't be any different. However, I think there is a very strong possibility we'll get a FFXVI trailer with release date and that would make me very happy indeed, the rest is gravy, no interest in PSVR so that's already an automatic write-off, let's see what happens.

Yeah I don't expect GoW at all

My only hope is that they are crunching away to release this year and have no time to waste with putting together a marketing showcase like Horizon did last year. Those things take longer than you expect, and that sequence wasn't even in the final game so it was essentially wasted effort

Well Sony hasn't lived large in June in ages.

Their PS5 reveal was okay though

Last year was just Horizon. This year is nothing from first party. Very odd

Maybe September is the new June from now on

September has been the new June for Sony since 2020 now. They haven't been a part of E3 since 2019, except for 2020 when they showed the console (and September would have been way too late).

I'll be watching Tame Impala walk on stage at the time, enjoy y'all.

My predictions.

Resident Evil 8 PSVR2
Resident Evil 7 PSVR2
Half-Life: Alyx PSVR2
Horizon VR Gameplay
Resident Evil Remake 2 & 3 Current Gen Patch Release date

Bleagh. Hate there not being e3 anymore.

Sony shows suck and now we have to wait another 3-4 months until we hear about the 1st party stuff.

If there was gonna be any surprise 1st party games for the 2nd half of 2022 thats gone out the window

Could Sony give Geoff God of War?

Last year he had Elden Ring

This year, with nothing big like that, and with Nintendo and MS having their own thing, i could see that happening

The hype and disappointment cycle for State of Play begins again. Please everyone, keep expectations in check, this isn't a PlayStation "showcase".

People expect FFXVI will be dissapoint . They going to annouce that Tatic orge reborn and Valkyrie profile remaster they tradmark one month ago . I am calling it :messenger_tears_of_joy:
What's the wager?

FFXVI gameplay trailer/release date.
SFVI gameplay reveal.

There hasn't been a state of play that was so good. They've been decent at best. The indie ones were an absolute snoozefest.
The show case/ state of play from September of last year was heard around the internet when they unveiled Spiderman 2, Wolverine, God of war:R, Knights of the Old republic. That made waves.
