Why don't sony just do one big showcase instead of breaking it up like this? Just do a packed 60 minute showcase instead. These shorter shows just don't do it for me.

It's most likely timing. Theres probably some teams that don't have their trailers/demos ready but Sony wants to at least give us something before the bigger show

The fact folks are still getting hyped over State Of Play is a real triumph of unrealistic optimism over cold hard reality.

You're not wrong however, I will say that the fact that this is tied to Summer Games Fest and not some "normal" StOP allows that spark of hope that something might be bigger.

Sony had the greatest E3 of all time (2015) and the next year they came back with an encore that was also top 5. I'm not saying "hype" alone is the reason they are so successful but I bet it doesn't hurt. Sony could use some hype about now.

Every.time. you think people would have learned by now. The only times I can recall where AAA games have been shown is when Sony announced the sop as a deep dive into a specific game (hzd2, gt7,etc). Gow2 will not be shown. Swift_Star thought it would be initially and tried to call me out on it, but given his silence it sounds like he's figured that out now. He calls me the clueless one, but he's gotta look in the mirror lol

There wouldn't be a Pro model this soon and with how well the PS4 Pro & One X did...I doubt they'll do it again.
Plus I believe the Pro & One X took away some of the NextGen thunder and MS & Sony know that.
I'd be surprised if they do go that route again
And we're still getting cross gen games
Just the move to current gen only will extend PS5 & XSX's life.
A slim on the other hand might be possible in 2-3 years from now.

The show case/ state of play from September of last year was heard around the internet when they unveiled Spiderman 2, Wolverine, God of war:R, Knights of the Old republic. That made waves.

That was a showcase, not a state of play. Sony have differentiated the two.

If people are going to complain about not having 4k60 then giving them an option to get that seems reasonable. Because clearly the current gen is not fast enough for that once you start taking about native next gen level fidelity.

Whats even more troubling is how they are likely not going to have a next gen only game for the holiday season if they do a september conference. or even the first half of 2023. If they had some super secret first party game they ever keeping close to their chest, E3 wouldve been the place to reveal it.

I guess when they said they have 25 new games in development, they were talking about vr shit. AAA games from Sony first party are taking forever, and it doesnt look like they will have anything next gen until spiderman 2 in holiday 2023 which lets be honest is going to get delayed to 2024.

I dont even feel confident about factions releasing this year now. And thats a cross gen game.

The lead Combat Designer Ryota Suzuki was lifted from Capcom and is behind the combat in DMCV. This has been known for a while.
Final Fantasy Tactics remastered has been the current rumor.

Emmm why the SoP on June 2nd should be their only event in June? In February/March they had one event after the other.

Because of what they did last year?
That's not how things work. It's useless to try to create rules and patterns when it's clear that Sony's marketing isn't based on those anymore.
They announce things when they're ready to announce them and when they think it's the right moment and we'll be clueless about them until a few days before they happen.

In 2020 they had two big events, last year games were getting delayed and other projects were too early in development to be announced, basically Insomniac saved the day hence the September showcase.
This year they have lots of things to talk about not to mention games coming out this year that are still unannounced plus obviously the GoW release date and marketing.
Just relax and enjoy things as they are announced.

Arron Greenberg tweets are about as genuine as Amber Herds abuse claims. Can't be taken seriously. Game was in dev before ms acquisition, deal may be in place.
