Ugggggh it just hit me that I'll be pressing that wireless connect button every time to resync between my 360 and my pc. I just hoped that the controller would go for the 360 if the wireless receiver was unplugged or something.

Oh well, no biggie.

Bought Civ 5 and the Viking expansion pack. I've never played a Civ game before but I promise my vikings shall cut a bloody swathe across all of coastal Europe.

Definitely Jamestown if you're into Cave shooters. It supports up to 4 players.

The coop is nicelt thoiught out from I've seen: the team doesn't have lives, only credits and loses one each time everyone is dead at the same time. What balances things out is that when you die, you come back to life after n seconds.

Keep in mind that Steam has on of the slowest and worst support in the industry, a 3-5 days delay between answers is pretty normal.

For a company who even says restoring accounts to the right owner is their number one priority on their support page, and that literally has had hundreds of dollars from me, 3-5 days is completely unacceptable. I can't think of any company ever that takes nearly that long.

I sent a support ticket to Nexon back in February and I only got a follow up email a few weeks ago.

I had an issue with downloading a game on Android Marketplace, and I was able to figure out and solve it myself in the days it took for either Google or Gamevil to respond.

Suggestion, email Gabe and let him know gaben@valvesoftware.com

Only way things will change is if you go straight to the top of the chain. He definitely reads the emails.

Had an issue with a gamevil game and they emailed me back in literally 15 minutes, even though I only paid them 1$. Paid Valve 100's....a handful of days. Trying hard not to rage.

I've been playing Darksiders a fair bit since picking it up at the summer sale. It's a pretty decent game so far. It may be crammed full of familiar gameplay mechanics and story elements, but they all work rather well together. Controls could use some work, especially when one has to dash dodge between groups of enemies, and War decides to dash in the wrong direction.

Also, I just finished beating Tiamat. The mechanics for taking her down were pretty fun, but the fight did wear on a bit, especially after I figured out what I needed to do, and was just going through the paces ad nauseum until she finally went down. Nonetheless, a pretty great game considering it only cost me $5. =D

Since i think everyone is posting their impressions of the games that they got on sale i though i would do the same since i finished one recently.

Far Cry

I only bought FarCry during the sale because it seemed interesting and the game didn't dissapoint in that regard. Far Cry is at it's best when it gives you a large open playfield allowing you to make very different choices in how to approach situations, there's nothing like gliding over a group of enemies only to jump down into the water onto a patrol boat that can be used to take them out or you could just sail away until the next encounter. I really like that freedom so it's a huge bummer when the game moves away from the jungle into narrow buildings, i didn't hate those segments but i wanted to go back to the jungle asap.
Now about the Trigens, some people really hated them making them sour on all of Far Cry. Personally i don't think they were implemented very well, the basic Trigen can kill you in 2 to 3 hits making it extremely annoying especially since you almost always fight them 2 at at a time, their jump attack killed me probably the most during my playtrough. Later Trigen species are slightly less annoying but not by much. Still even with all of that i felt trigens gave a neat dynamic to the combat, it was pretty cool watching the mercs and the Tigen fight it out, i even used that once by luring a specimen into a group of soldiers, the soldiers forgot about me for and tried to deal with their new threat instead i of course used the distraction to pick the soldiers one by one.
Yeah i liked Far Cry a lot even with that fucking final level bullshit, who the fuck thought it was a good idea to pit you against rocket wielding mutants while a bunch of Trigens shoot your ass off from a distance while jumping all over the place. To add insult to injury right after that you have to fight soldiers armed with rocket launchers, it's almost like a slap in the face after coming through all the previous combat. I wish i could say the end was worth it but the entire story was forgettable and cheesy.
So yeah in conclusion i feel the jungle levels are the best thing in Far Cry, the rest is a mixed bag and the final level is probably one of the worst i have ever played. If you are planning a playtrough anytime soon i say just skip the final level, it's not worth it.

My stock reply is the game ends at the climax. Once you
detonate the nuke,
the game is over and you should just pretend nothing exists beyond that point. I give this advice whenever talking about that game.

Yea, that boss fight was a tad annoying... especially if you didn't know what your were doing. I swear I spent at least 10 minutes doing the wrong thing, and I had to start over.

Luckily, the next boss fight isn't nearly as obtuse.

Can someone post that fix to get Assassin's Creed/Splinter Cell Conviction working correctly on a pad? Something about them not recognizing the triggers.

1) Go here, get this

2) Unzip it somewhere you'll find it, go there and run it

3) It'll ask about creating an ini and a dll, say yeah

4) at the bottom load wireless 360 controller, then go through all the tabs and make sure compatibility mode 2 is checked and native is 1

5) Close it down, and then copy the ini file and the dll file that are in there with it into the game folder for the game you're playing

6) Enjoy the wireless 360 controller support that should have been fucking programmed into the game in the first place

I remember I had trouble with my Trackmania United password once. Coudn't find it and the send e-mail password wasn't functioning. Sent e-mails to support and where directed and got no reply. Was furious. A couple weeks later, the e-mail password function started working again and I was able to retrieve it. So things were okay. But about six months later, I finally got a response from my e-mail. If you're gonna take six months, mine as well not even hire anyone and just sent them automatically to the trash bin.

Picked up Mass Effect in the Steam sale and just started playing.

First impressions aren't fantastic. The performance on PC isn't great (on a newly built rig that has handled everything else I've thrown at it, including Crysis and a number of more recent games on high settings) and it seems alot more dated than I was expecting, with some wierd visual glitches and less than stellar graphics. The interface isn't great either and I'm finding the game a little bland right now.

Only put around an hour into it so far but I'm not loving it so far. I'm hoping I can assume the game improves quite abit from these early stages?

Yeah ME1 is a bit slow at first. Most would probably say until after the Citadel but I think it picks up a bit about halfway through the Citadel. Either way that first mission and the Citadel will probably take up 3 hours or so if you do everything, much less if you just do what you have to and get out.

I just played The Path, which I bought during the recent sale. It's pretty disappointing. I'd heard a number of wonderful things about it, and admittedly I haven't plunged the depths of this game at all, I did a single play thru and didn't collect even half of the items. The music is nice, and I love that it says 'unloading' when quitting, but overall it's pretty terrible. It's pretentious, brooding, and a chore to play, an awful combination.

Although I'm not a strong believer in video games as art, I certainly tend to favor the games people will highlight in those debates, and The Path was one of them I'd been meaning to check out and hadn't till now, another being The Void.

So The Path sucks, can GAF reassure me The Void will be worth my time?

The game is Unreal Engine 3, there is no way it won't perform perfectly on a rig that can handle Crysis. You must have screwed something up in the videocard control panel.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

Nope. The void wont fit your bill either if you cant see those games as "art" without having a coherent gameplay.

I didnt like it either and normally love "artsy" games that are universally acclaimed as well.

yeah, that's what i'm thinking too. you can crank the aa on this one and still get a buttery smooth, rock solid 60 fps on even a 1+ year old gpu. just played a bit the other day and can confirm this.

I have not used cocaine
So i'm thinking of playing:

Red Faction: Guerrila
Singularity
Alpha Protocol

I know they all have gamepad support, even if it isn't on the store page, so i guess it all comes down to which one is the shortest. I have a short attention span :S

You really can't go wrong with any of them. Off the top of my head I would have to say that guerilla is longer as it's an open world game and you'll occasionally spend some time just blowing shit up and ignoring missions.

Singularity is the shortest at 8 hours tops, prolly closer to 7. Singularity feels excellent on the pad as well.

Singularity would probably be the shortest.

Though all of the games were very entertaining. With regards to AP I'd recommend taking a look at some character builds though.

Can anyone tell me if the costumes DLC for SSFIVAE is on Steam? I think it was supposed to be released today but since the game is blocked in my region I can't see the steam page.

If anyone wants a copy of Terraria for cheap I have one left I can gift from the sale. I would be willing to gift for the Cthulhu Saves the World & Breath of Death VII Double Pack. If you are interested PM me.

EDIT: Trade Completed

Clive Barker's Jericho for $2.49.

Meh.
Really? I might bite on that, I like Barkers stories sometimes, and I kinda wanted this title when it was new. Is it really THAT bad?

Nah. It's a good little B game. If I didn't own it I'd jump on it for $2.50

Jericho isn't bad. It has some interesting characters with cool back-stories, and a somewhat interesting story that should appeal to horror fans. Some segments are truly creepy.

Hmm... weird. The daily deals don't even show up on the front page or sales list in my client anymore.

Edit: and it doesn't show up in my browser as well.

Same here. Navigating to the Jericho store page displays that it's the deal of the day though.

I got Chantelise working, had to shut off frap, d3doverrider and radeonpro. Guess the game doesn't like overlays.

So it's an Altitude free weekend, and no one appears to be playing Altitude (though two people on my friends list have it on their wish list). It's at least fairly fun even if I never play it!

I'm having a problem with Steam's time tracking. Nothing really important but according to Steam I haven't plaid RUSH at all (not true). Also, the timer isn't counting anymore.

I only have this problem with RUSH, any way to solve it?
