Uh, I started up Left 4 Dead, and got a message saying my GTX 570 "does not appear in our database. Consequently, you may or may not be able to play game with sufficient stability or performance".

Wat.

I get that for my GTX 460, which I assume would have to be in their 'database' seeing as it was one of the top cards on their most recent hardware survey.

I think they stopped updating that aspect a long time ago. It just means that the card isn't officially supported.

Been getting terrible download speeds from Steam lately here in Aus, actually faster when I connect to a server in Seattle :/

Ah, I see.

...

I don't really want to bump an ancient thread, nor create a new one just to ask a question: Are there any good (preferably text based) guides for Civ IV. I've done the in game tutorial and read around a bit, but it would be nice if I could find a comprehensive beginners guide. I feel extremely aimless towards the early sections of a game.

no, that's been on sale incognito for a few days.

Weird, I've had EU3 on my wishlist for a while now, I thought Steam used to promote games on your wishlist that were on sale somewhere on the front of the store.

Given how much Kabouter and a few other GAFfers have gone on about this game in particular I think I'll give it a shot. I like Paradox, they develop and publish weird and awesome power nerd games.

Actually, I think it was just Euorpa 3 base that was on sale a few days ago.

Don't think so, because I own EU3 base and Kab sent me a PM a few days ago to naggingly remind me to buy the expansions when the sale showed up.

I clearly must be blind, or only the first was on sale at the start, with the expansions put on sale shortly after.

Everytime I log into Steam it says I'm logging in from a new computer and have enter a code that they email me. I've changed my password just incase but I keep getting this. It either does this or crashes? This has been happening just in the past 30 min or so. Is Steam having problems?

It's probably Steam Guard, disable it in the settings. It was wonky for me too.

Not sure of any guides out there, but the best advice I could give is just to decide what type of victory you want to achieve and then focus on that and go from there.

Blind.

So sick of the endless military fps assembly line. I don't play TF2 so all I'm stuck with is L4D2 from now until what.... Tribes?

Sorry this is obviously the wrong place to post this, but I miss the days of Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 sooooooooo bad.

There are literally zero upcoming creative competitive fps's anymore. Don't tell me to play Brink either.

I'm burnt out on them so bad that I already know that I won't buy COD or BF, not even for the jets.

Sigh

Try Killing Floor? As an aside why don;t you play TF2?

That looks pretty cool, never heard of it. As far as Human Revolution goes, I didn't realize it had a competitive mp mode.

Maybe I'm bitter because I never played any of the Halo's :). That is probably where my void is.

I never played or enjoyed the original TF either, I don't know why.

Killing Floor is numero uno on my want list but since I so heavily played out L4D with like 300 hours, I hesitate because I'm thinking its like the same genre and all.

For like a brief second my brain went into full retard mode and took what you said, mixed it with what he said he wanted (a creative competitive FPS), and pictured an awful future where Deus Ex was just another boring team deathmatch game.

God it was terrifying...

KF has a very different feel. Much more teamwork, communication, and strategy is required. And the guns feel sooooo good.

This is related to GTA:SA

How do I get the controller to full function? All I get is movement the buttons do nothing.

Oddly they aren't the same. I started with KF and got L4D2 later. L4D was boring to me.

Sorry if old. But Greenman Gaming have some indie titles up sale, 2 of which are Steamworks.

http://www.greenmangaming.com/promo/indie-week/

Steamworks games

Super Meat Boy - $6.95
Sanctum - $7.49

Yes Greenman Gamings version of SMB is Steamworks and must be registered on Steam. I got a referral link for $5 credit (after min $5 purchase), but i won't post it since it's against the Neogaf TOS rules.

Wait, are we talking about versus or campaign for Left 4 Dead? Because versus is impossible without all of those things you just listed.

This kind of temptation is unfortunate before a summer sale that may or may not occur :) I've had my eye on Sanctum for a while

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
Santcum is fantastic. One of my favorite games this year actually, even if the co-op difficulty needs some serious tweaking.

Nope in fact it got rejected by Valve because of the word 'bitch' in the title.

There was a thread over a the Steam forums about it.
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1920001

EDIT: http://markleung.com/forum/so-how-successful-mlrotb

"Steam rejected our game because of its morally questionable and sensitive content. We told them we could rewrite / change some things but they turned us down. What a pity."
What the fuck? What's so questionable about it? Do you eat babies? I don't think so, so what was the problem?
EDIT: read through it.. didn't know they were so strict.
