If that dude only paid $1 for a Humble Bundle then he really doesn't deserve to get anything for free. I can't believe this practice of almost stealing (20cents per game) is supported on GAF.

Who are you to say $1 isn't enough? There is no grey area, either he stole it or he bought it. Just because you don't like that someone paid less than you, doesn't mean he isn't the same customer as you. If people "almost steal" games by paying less, we're all be thieves from the last Steam sale.

The guys who set up the Humble Bundles are all big boys. When they modelled it, they no doubt anticipated xx% of people paying $1 or less. However, these are typically the kind of people that would have downloaded it or just ignored the game, so $1 > $0.

Remember that each copy of the game costs next to nothing to produce when the game has been developed. From that perspective, everything they make, even if it's 20 cents per game, is pure profit.

Except if you count in the fact they've put all the manpower, effort and time into developing these games and would like/need a certain amount of money for them to break even because time spent on the game is a job for some.

And yeah the humble bundle guys aren't the dev, it's a different group, so technically they already make pure profit :p Except for like website hosting and stuff.

I actually represented the Linux bois and paid $20 for each bundle

XBL Indies: 70% of money exactly goes to devs, they get paid the end of the quarter following the current quarter, $4 total to buy both games. Must be online to play. No achievements.

Steam: ~70% of money goes to devs, EDIT: monthly payment schedule, $2.69 to buy both games (regular $2.99). Can play offline. No achievements, but they could be patched in.

As of now, we have yet to hear of a single issue with the 1,000 gifts given away from the community. If any concerns were to arise, we would be more than happy to reach out to Valve, and do our best to address these issues, helping them understand the winners have no connections with the users providing the games. Overall, we're simply helping people find a way to share their extra copies, and SteamGifts is not setup to dodge country restrictions or pricing in anyway. Hopefully in the future we'll be able to get game publishers or even Valve involved.

Steam: Money goes to Gabe Newell's pirate ship fund.

Seems pretty even, but games are cheaper on Steam and I can play offline.

This might not be the best place to ask this, but I am playing it on Steam.. but does anybody know if you can "reset" a sim in The Sims 3? One of mine went into grief while cooking and now permanently has a bowl of pasta in his hands. He won't do anything else yet. And I've spent an embarrassing amount of time on this character so I don't want to ditch him.

edit: What is steamgifts anyway. Is it a constant raffle to win games, or do you trade gifts you have left over?

I don't remember what the 1C guys said about Steam payment schedules, but I'm 99 percent certain it's faster than what you outlined for MS.

On a train on my netbook and Steam is telling me it can`t find my account. Logged in fine from my Mac before I left.

Any idea what I can do? I can't reset my PW or anything. A bit concerned, I have my CC info tied to my account.

I'm not really sure what specific error you're getting, but 99.99999999999999% of the time when you have a problem logging in to Steam, you can solve it by deleting clientregistry.blob in your Steam folder and relaunching Steam. You'll have to connect online (so if your netbook is offline this will not help you) and you'll have to sign in again, but it generally clears up issues.

Except it's to help charities and he seemed quite pleased by how little he was able to give. It's a shitty attitude to have.

Why is Call of Juarez: The Cartel so cheap compared to most new releases? It's £20 on Steam and £15 from online retailers - is it more of a standalone expansion pack, or are Ubisoft just trying a new pricing strategy with it?

In my opinion, just for the MP, no. I played it for about eight hours and felt I had seen enough, but maybe 8+ hours of entertainment is worth $40 to you. The game has gone on sale a couple times already, and the MP to me was just a shallow, uninspired version of what was seen previously in The Ship.

The DLC is absolutely terrific, but it isn't very long. The multiplayer doesn't seem terribly active on PC the couple times I tried it. I say wait until you are really jonesing for a full replay of the game or figure out what platform has the most active multiplayer community and get a copy there.

They are probably trying the Sniper: Ghost Warrior approach in hopes to meet similar success.

thanks guys, still no luck. it simply says "cannot find account" it's bryehn just like everywhere else for me.

tried deleting the .blob, even reinstalled steam. i'm connected to wi-fi so that shouldn't be an issue. it's probably my netbook, it's been acting funny. oh well.

I've been having problems with Overlord, the game loads ok but the menu doesn't show anything, not even the exit option, I have to forced it to close with alt+f4, has anyone had this problem? I've been searching everywhere but it has been no help.

Whenever I launch Cthulu or BoD VII, it tries to run the XNA Framework 4.0 installer (not just the first time I launch them like usual).

The only options are "repair" or "remove" none of which I feel the need to do as the games seem to run fine when I exit the installer. It's just annoying having it run every time. Is there any way I can get it to stop running the installer when I launch the games?

Just tell it to repair, it will stop it from showing up again

It's true, I paid $1 for the frozenbyte bundle because I already had the three major games on steam for full price and I wasn't going to pay for a demo and a preorder of a game that didn't even interest me. I still wanted to support them so I paid what I thought it was worth to me.

An update for reference. I posted that a while ago and I sent in a support ticket. They just gave me my CD key after I explained it properly (that I hadn't made an account yet and thus hadn't used the CD key I paid for, and just wanted to see if it would give me a month of gold status (which it still might not)). So it's worth a try for this or maybe Global Agenda.

Finally working my way through my backlog. Most of my backlog is from the Christmas sales.
Started off with The Witcher and Blue Toad Murder Files, it's great to be able to play these after 7 months.

If you still have that key unused, I'd willingly buy it off you and give you a stack of credit for use in the champions online store - in fact, I'll trade it for a 60 day game card if you want!


I need the action figure that comes with that key :)

Restart steam and/or verify local cache.
