Seems like they made the same misstep from Guerilla to Armageddon that they did in this one where they narrowed your options way down over the first game. I don't understand why they wouldn't stick with a successful formula and just improve THAT. Like why the fuck do we need another corridor shooter? Make a better version of the game we liked and innovate within that context!

I'm just going to go ahead and disagree with the statement that Armageddon was a misstep. It's probably my favorite game in the series behind the first Red Faction. If you would like to know why, you can read through my three posts in that "official" thread here, here and here.

I didn't think Red Faction 2 was that bad.

Agreed. I liked it a hell of a lot more than Guerrilla, for sure.

After playing through it I'm pretty close to feeling the same. One or two more playthroughs and I can see it surpassing the first game.

I can't rebut your post as I haven't played the game. I was just commenting based on anecdotal stuff I heard about the game on Giantbombcast and what I've heard about the game reviews-wise etc. Glad to hear your enjoying it though and I'd imagine I'll give it a go at some point good or not. Steam sales make try everything eventually. :p

I will agree that Volition doesn't seem to know what they want to do with the series. Two first person shooters, one open world game and a third person shooter. The only common theme between all of the games is destruction while Fighting The Man is a common theme for the first three of the games.

Anyone know why Duke Nukem Forever isn't in the Steam top ten (or even top twenty)? Has it completely bombed?

Probably. Not that it means much, but the OT for the game isn't very active here either. Seems like most people lost interest once it actually came out.

There's no way I'm touching it until it's very cheap.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the demo. It just feels dated. I will pick it up for $10.

First, it's number one on my list of "Top Sellers" - maybe something is just misconfigured for you/you need to refresh the page?

Failing that, it's already out in the rest of the world, so my guess is that all the front-loaded sales of non-NA sales are over and the incredibly negative reviews from Eurogamer and IGN aren't helping. Add to that the overwhelmingly polarizing demo and I think the result is a game that had peak sales sometime on Friday and will see a big bump on Tuesday during the NA release, but is currently in a bit of a dip.

Thanks. Unless everyone had it pre-ordered on Amazon for the last 12 years and got it from there, the sales must be pretty dreadful as almost all high profile games seem to be in the chart for a week or so at least after launch.

it's number 1 over here.

Ah, it seems to be a regional thing-

No 1 in US.

Doesn't appear in UK.

It was in the #1 selling spot here (USA) yesterday, #1 selling spot today, and it hasn't released yet.

Apparently Bucket of Blood is so bad that it still hasn't appeared on the main page for me. =P In fact, an hour or so later, it still isn't there, and it's even #11 out of 10 on the specials list? If I were the developer I might be a bit sad about that.

Remy thinks it's not so bad, so maybe he'll post some detailed impressions later.

If you PM me your email I can send you a 21 day trial so you can give it a shot, it was on offer a few weeks back.

Last years sale started on the 22nd I believe so I'd expect it to be around the same time this year.

my wallet is not ready :(

Will actually use the steam wallet this time and just put how much I'm willing to spend on the whole sale.

it's awful

Actually it's okay if all you want is to mindlessly kill shit. But that's literally the entire game. Each mission has a different structure (escorting stuff, defending stuff, etc.) but it's all just mindless killing. Soooo, if that's your schtick...

Hope this isn't too OT...

Finally putting a build together and honestly haven't used Windows in a few years. Is Windows 7 the way to go for Steam/gaming or should I stick to trusty old XP?

7. I held out till last summer with XP (which made me longer than most). There's zero reason to stick with XP. Especially since you can't do DX11 with it. It's the modern XP.

If you wanna put XP on a second partition, go for it. Just don't do it at the expense of 7.

Since repeating something three times makes it true, I wanted to throw my opinion in.

Windows 7 is quite good. I've been using 64-bit home premium. I used Vista home premium before that and was not a fan of Vista, to give a point of comparison, but I do recommend 7.

Indeed, said partition will go unused too, as long as you get Win7Pro. 7 is to XP as XP was to....like uhhh... 95. An enormous jump in stability and performance. So good in fact, that getting me to dump another $200 or $250 for Win8 is going to be a near impossible sell unless I rebuild and get pushed into buying a new sku.

Yes, I can attest to this. I think the next time I reformat 7, I'm going to kill my XP partition and reclaim the space. I think I only have 80GB allocated to it, but it's still a waste. However, if it puts his mind at ease about upgrading to 7, it's a worthwhile step.

Still without luck
I might have downloaded a certain leaked 10 hour preview of a game that may be coming out in August, and now when I try to load Steam it says there was a problem with my installation and I should re-install. The reason I mentioned that is that I noticed there are Steam files in that download.

When I went to re-install the client, it says it would remove all Steam content from my computer and I think it meant games as well.

Could someone help me and let me know what I should do?

For one, don't download pirated copies of leaked games.

But to answer your question, if you feel a reinstall is needed, move all your game files to a different folder, then reinstall. After reinstalling, move the game files back to the original folder.

Thanks, but I'm an idiot when it comes to PC file stuff. Where would those files be?

The steamapps folder inside your Steam installation directory. As long as you save that somewhere, you can uninstall and reinstall, and then just move that folder back (overwriting the empty one from your new installation), and next time you run Steam it'll pick your games back up.
