New to Tomb Raider? :p (also, doesn't the game have unlockable bikinis just in case the wetsuit isn't revealing enough?) On a more serious note, in my limited experience it was pretty linear early on. I think that's how Tomb Raider games are, right? You solve a linear series of puzzle obstacles. There are hidden items and stuff if you want to go exploring, though, like underwater caves.

If you don't like revealing clothing, though, it looks like the upcoming game will have Lara covered in blood instead of UNcovered with clothing. They're switching up to corner the fetish market.

So Anniversary plays like the original but with updated graphics, or is this
offers gamers a completely new gameplay experience. Re-imagined, Anniversary delivers a dynamic fluidly and fast Lara Croft
to be taken to heart? Not that that would necessarily be bad.

It plays like Legend, that is gone is gameplay and level design based on boxes. Also, Lara now have a graple that is used in lots of puzzles and platforming, there are few (very easy) QTE cut-scenes, "headshot" mechanic that is neccessary in most boss battles and some other minor differences.

Imagine TR Legend with TR1 level and puzzle design, less shooting and no motorcycle sections and you will get TR: Anniversary.

Hmm, so should I pick up TR Legend as well? GoL was my first taste of the series and it impressed me so much that I wanted to try out more TR from Crystal Dynamics... I got Anniversary and Underworld right when the sale went up, but there's so much less enthusiasm for Legend that I passed over it.

Is it worth $5 and a playthrough to provide context for TRU?

It's decent but it does have a couple of rough spots that would later be corrected, like not very good vehicle levels, QTEs or mediocre boss battles, and then there's all the stuff purists complain about like having radio talk all the time or too many human enemies but that should not bother you that much most likely. It's still a nice game though, more so for that price.

Ha, I couldn't resist it... I bought Civ 4 (for the third time)

First, I bought the vanilla version many years ago at a good price.

The expansions came, but I couldn't find them in any place. Mexico is not the best place to buy computer videogames.

I could boought it when the Civ 4 complete edition came, but it was really expensive. It was my own birthday present, so it was worth it. When the last patch came, the one that lets play without the disc, I became the happiest player on earth.

After that, they published Civ4 colonization, but it didn't pick my interest. At least, I didn't want to make all the effort to play a "game similar to Civ4 that is not Civ4".

But now in Steam... 7.5 dollars... all the package... and I can play it on MAC ( I have plans to buy an IMac) And it includes Colonization as a separate game, so it won't interfere with my current Civ4 instalation... SOLD!!!!

But it seems Colonization is not available on MAC, but who cares...

Minus a very disappointing final act, yes.

I don't think Crystal Dynamics quite got the "level as giant puzzle" concept down perfectly until Underworld, but Anniversary is came damn close and is definitely worth everyone's time.

St. Francis' Folly from Anniversary is still the best level in any TR game ever (though I do appreciate the level-wide puzzles in UW) and not only that, it's one of the best levels in any game ever.

That is because it's almost a carbon copy of the level from the original game, minus a couple of grapple hook swings and a slightly easier difficulty.

The gameplay changes made in Anniversary make it a superior experience to the OG version.

I'm wouldn't disagree; I'm just saying that level isn't a good example of Crystal Dynamic's level design capabilities. I think they learnt a lot by having to remake the original levels in Anniversary - they show a great proficiency in Tomb Raider level design in Underworld.

Wow, it sounds like a sequel to Geometry Wars, in which you are fighting for the glory of your king and country to stop the evil Geometry wizards.

It's fun, just make sure you do NOT use "next generation content" which is half baked, doesn't match to the original artistic design of the game, and was basically an excuse to show off some nvidia features at the time.

Cricket Revolution for 99c?

Anyone know if it's any good? I assume it's on sale in conjunction with the World Cup. I'll buy it, because I am a cricket tragic and for 99c how could I not?

Also, this bit in Wikipedia is interesting:
The game is the first ever commercialised video game developed by Pakistan.

Good for them.

It actually just adds better lighting, textures and shadowing. Doesn't really mess with the artistic design.

Yes it does. It makes the game look incredibly inconsistent at points. That is messing with artistic design.

I'll take your word for it, as I never got around to finishing it, but I think I'd still rather have the next-gen assets.

Which you would rather use is a matter of personal preference, but it is 100% wrong to say that the change in assets has no effect on the artistic design.

Guess it depends on how you define "artistic design," to me it's something drastic, like say cell shaded graphics vs realistic. So I'd say the overall artistic design is the same regarding TR:Legend. But again, that's just my opinion, and I really couldn't care less either way.

Just an update about the whole GreenManGaming situation with Civ V (and their inability to meet demand).

I've just received an email from them stating that they will honor the purchase of those that tried but were unable to complete the order. In addition, they provided a copy of Grand Ages: Rome. Really nice of them.

"Dear luiztfc,

Sid Meier's Civilization V incomplete order

We're very sorry that your purchase of Sid Meier's Civilization V did not go through as it should have, and you were unable to get your game. The reason for this is that far more people than we ever expected jumped at the great offer, and we sold out of the thousands of game keys we thought would be enough.
We are working as quickly as we can to get more keys, but the folks at 2K in the USA are on holiday today (it is President's Day) and they said they'll be sending them to us tomorrow.
We apologise for all this trouble and hope you accept a copy of Grand Ages: Rome, in addition to your purchase of Sid Meier's Civilization V, as a thank you gift for bearing with us. To get your copy of Grand Ages: Rome please visit:

click buy on the product page and use the voucher code below at check out. This is your unique voucher code - keep it safe so it can't be used by anyone else.

Thanks for the info on TR Legend, guys. Added that to my Steam pile well, can't wait to dive into all these TR games over spring break. =]

And the heads up about the next gen content was really useful... otherwise I'd just have turned it on without a thought. I browsed through some comparison articles about the differences, and while there are some nice effects and the occasional improvement texture wise, it seems that there are indeed bizarre choices that make some areas difficult to see (the removal of some environmental light sources for solely global lighting) and clashing between certain graphical elements. Half baked, as Dice put it, is definitely a good way to describe it...

Booted up the game and walked around the manor switching between modes, and I've settled on playing through it with the "normal" visuals since visual coherence is more important to me than high-res rock textures in outdoor areas or the occasional dynamic shadow.

Disappointing sale last week. :(
Well Squeenix's games have been on sale many times, so it's not like they could have wowed us with anything. A lot of people here at least want a good deal on The Last Remnant. I'm not sure why the hell Squeenix is keeping the price so high as if it was some sort of pinnacle of gaming, most people think it's bad to mediocre and Square should be lucky to have people buy it for ten bucks. I don't know who would buy it for forty when there are many other great RPGs for much cheaper.

Just finished Trine. Why aren't there more games like this? It seems pretty simple to make, and you can have a lot of fun with the physics.

I played it a little bit on my 360, as a rental. I really wouldn't like to pay more than $10 for it, but at the same time I'm really dismayed that even when it's been on sale, it's never been lower than 50%. :(

It was 75% off once a long time ago.

Portal stopped booting for me. I get a "preparing to launch" message and thats that.

I defragged and verified game cache and that didnt work. I also tried varios launch optons (-novid, etc) and those didnt do anything. Any ideas?
HL2 seems to be working ok.

In terms of theme you could do a lot worse than picking up Magicka. It's not a 2D puzzle platformer, but it has the same 'lite epic fantasy' theme and the same kind of 'solve this situation your own way' mechanics.

On the other hand, there probably aren't too many physicsy platformy games simply because there are so many platformers, especially now we're in the age where every indie developer and his grandmother have made a platformer with one or two unique mechanics the game draws on for its three hour run time. It seems that instead of getting a whole bunch of platformers aping off the one mechanic with different themes and styles, you have a whole bunch of mostly identical platformers all with a single defining mechanic.

You know, like shadows or explosions or time travel or physics or silhouettes or megaman or shape shifting or colour matching or...
