where you're making a blanket statement about most games sucking and being much worse than the games you praise so much.
That was very elitist of me, that's my bad.
I must remember that even though I really don't like the games on iOS and the App Store (mostly because there are a lot of clones that've been causing some damage for non-clone games by making apple backed-up on the review end side of things, delaying the release of some games by weeks.) someone else may enjoy them, and so I really shouldn't have said that 99% of games suck.
I really do believe that "Even if you don't care about 3D shooter level design" there is something that you could find of interest in Doom, like what ToddHunter said, the music is really good so you could get a very worthwhile experience out of Doom by just playing the game and see how the music helps create an atmosphere in combination with the enemy designs and how the gameplay works. No, there aren't. If you don't enjoy these games, why would you waste your time with one? Unless you want to try and see if you can get into one of these games, there's nothing to gain by doing this. Though you specifically sayd "3D shooter level design", not "3D shooter games in general", but I believe your point was referring to the latter; please correct me if I'm wrong.
I know some people have argued that you should be able to talk to the imps and doom and have the ability to reason with them instead of your only option being "shoot them" but I think that's part of the charm of Doom that is rarely seen and one of the reasons why I believe it to be a game everyone should play before they die.
It's a game that when you play it you can tell this is something that the developers really put their soul into, from playing doom you can really get a glimpse into the creators, they played DnD(certain enemies in Doomhave designs that are similar to enemies in DnD) they listened to rock songs(This has been somewhat a point of controversy with some people saying that iD stole the songs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IXNpPhfk1s ) and to stop my rambling there I'm just going to say it was a gaming about shooting things, and that really feels like that is what iD wanted it to be, and maybe it's nostalgia talking but I feel that you can really tell that the developers loved making the game(okay, that's almost certainly nostalgia, I'm sure they had a lot of sleepless nights, haha)
Yeah, reading that back, that was awfully rude of me calling people like Accent a casual(Sorry, mate)See? You're putting people in arbitrary categories by holding some games to arbitrary standards. There's no reason to someone who hasn't played Doom, because not everyone has played the same games as you, nor wants so. Nor should they. Taste is a personal matter, and what's a classic game for someone can be a hideous piece of poop for someone else, or completely uninteresting.
But as for the arbitrary standard, you're right, it totally is, it's just that since I liked doom and such, I think other people should play them, I don't think that my opinion on me wanting people to play Doom will change, to put it in less offensive terms than before, if you don't want to play Doom, that's fine, but I'll still want you to play Doom even if you don't want to because I think Doom is swell.
It's cool man, I didn't get my point across correctly(still not sure if i have, haha) so it's cool that we're discussing it since now I can try to explain things better. To be honest, I don't even know why I am discussing this, lol. You're not being aggressive and I'm probably missing your point, so I should shut up now.
