Right, this matches my understanding. 4-way only, but I hope they add 5-way in a future patch. I think people will be using the d-pad mode with shift mode buttons as a workhorse.

I didn't know this, kind of interesting, even if I imagine it will be less reliable than a click.

My main concern with this controller is whether sweat would cause the trackpads to go out of whack.

Does anyone know? It's the only thing holding me from preordering.

I'm in Ireland and got an email last night asking to confirm my address.
Does this mean its shipping soon? For those who got the email before how long did it take until it shipped? Possibility of getting it early?

So can this controller be used on non steam games? Some have said it can't. Namely could this be used on Battlefront? I thought that outside of Steam it just emulates a 360 controller but I have no clue.

Also has anyone used this with Battlefront beta?

It can. The guys in this very thread streamed a lot of non Steam games using the Steam Controller.

No, it's just asking for confirmation before they start sending them out. People have gotten those emails in mid-September. It was till Sept 25 to confirm the address. Then beginning of this month came the emails about how they have shipped and you can track them. Those are going to arrive on Oct. 16. When did you order it, maybe this is for the November release.

So wait, I can't set up a "neutral" input? Such that clicking down outside of the central ring would count as an input, in four directions, and then have inside the ring count as another input?

I ordered for November and was asked to update shipping address by 20th October.

You can check your order status by going to your account and then purchase history.

You'll see the Steam Controller and it will have a "shipping details" link that will list your shipping location and when it will ship.

I ordered mine the day it was available to preorder and currently my shipping status is set to "Shipping Soon" and I can't fucking wait! :D

Anyone have any input about the steam link connectivity. On it they say hardwired is strongly recommended. I will have a hard wire to the router but my pc goes in to an AC access point. Just afraid that it will be laggy.

you can get the exact same machine, with windows installed, for cheaper because it's pretty regularly on sale. I saw it going for like $399 earlier this year.

I'm waiting for Bish to reply. He said he'd get back to me about a week ago but I haven't heard anything. I'll hit him up again. Long story short, I don't think I can make the thread anymore because of NeoGAF's anti-shilling policy.

they sell the controllers separately, you should be able to go into gamestop and pick one up in person in a month.

Yeah, I have found it attractive ever since they announced it and really want to try gaming with one. Although I am pretty content with my PS4 and Xbox One right now, part of me would like to go this route, drop the subscription bullshit and get better deals on games. It's something I have thought about quite a bit.

If you have a walmart around, many of them have alienware alpha displays set up. You can go dink around with BPM if you're curious as to what it's like.

Just covering bases. Long story short, I don't think it'll be in good taste for me to make the thread and it'd likely break a bunch of NeoGAF rules if I did make the thread after some recent events. Bish said he'd ask around to see if I could get permission going forward to make the thread, but I've already told Nyz to be prepared.

I'm still making a guide and have content for the thread, I just don't think I can actually post an OT anymore, not according to NeoGAF TOS.

I've been playing a lot of games recently so been thinking of how the steam controller will handle all of them.

Ordered mine instore at GAME UK (they were cheaper than the prices on Steam when factoring delivery costs), so there's no chance of me getting mine early. Sad times...

Got my shipping notification today. I'm not a super adventurous sort of tester though, I just want to see if I can improve some of the games that use controllers like Ys or Grandia II when I get the controller.

So I ordered my Steam Controller for the early bird shipment. But now I'm tempted to order a Steam Link too. But at this point, it won't ship until November, right?

There is a newer version of the Alpha available only from Dell with a 7200rpm drive. The Amazon one is older and is being cleared out.

Believe it or not the newer Alphas no longer ship with a controller of any sort except the higher version tier of the base model. Witch doesn't really make sense unless the Alpha page is totally screwed up and Dell doesn't realize it.
