Steam Frame, Steam controller and Steam Machine Revealed

Steam Deck OLED is probably my favorite gaming device ever tbh. Nice snappy UI like a console and wide open to mess around with like a PC. Also have learned a lot about Linux from using it so much. When I first looked at Deck at the reveal I thought it looked fuckin stupid.

This is the silver lining for me as well. I've never been a fan of handhelds. Well, I was, but as a child. As an adult they made no sense to me. Then I ended up being gifted a steam deck. I've used it a ton now. It's incredibly useful and convenient and I love the desktop functionality. My Steam library transferring from one device (PC) to another (Steam Deck) has been great as well. All the open source plug-ins with various git repos so I can tinker to my hearts content is awesome too.

That worry's the fuck out of me. That sounds like it's going to be overpriced but I hope I'm wrong.
Going by desktop and laptop prices for these specs, this would cost something like $700

If they can somehow drag it down to $600 it'd be a great deal already honestly, as in you probably wouldn't find any equivalent PC or laptop for this price

That Frame look mighty interesting. As many have said, I do not buy anything from meta, so a standalone VR headset with no cables is really cool to me.

Also, in before these headset get used like crazy in the ukraine war for drone warfare.

This Steam machine specs look really bad. No idea why they chose this one.

My guess is to gauge an entry point into the market with a 'relatively' cheaper device. The last Steam Machine they put out around a decade ago didn't do well.

The dongle will connect directly to your headset. It's router OR dongle. I have a similar setup using a wifi 6e network USB device.

Dongle is self sufficient.

It also supports router if that's your thing. You can have better coverage throughout a house than a dongle.
Good, This is what I wanted, I can play in VR using the 6Ghz dongle and the rest of the family can use the old router to do whatever whenever.
As things are now, I have to tell everyone in the house to not download anything while I'm in VR. :)

IT's a lower end gaming mini-pc with STeamOS.

STandard game controller with touchpads.

And another VR headset.

...meanwhile the sht I really want is HL3.

I was curious so I went through the specs, and they had the dimensions of the controller, so I compared it to other controllers and was pleasantly surprised.

LYtQfq.png
Steam Controller: 111mm x 159mm x 57mm 292g
DualSense: 106mm x 160mm x 66mm 280g
Xbox One: 101.9mm x 152.9mm x 61mm 280g

Now I based this off of this website LINK so maybe it's wrong but it's only 5mm taller so the controller is pretty comparable to the DualSense size wise.

The hardware will already be outdated by the time it's released. I guess it's more intended for smaller games or indies. There should have been several tiers of steam machine.

In the meantime, you can use something like this. Just plug it in, go to windows settings and turn it into a mobile hotspot. Connect to this new network.

You now have a dedicated direct connection for PCVR gaming. It's the same concept as the dongle.

$30 USD

The stick spacing on that controller looks terrible. The shape - everything. It looks like a thousand hand-cramps compressed into thirty minutes of gameplay... like instant carpal-tunnel.

And the D-Pad on those VR controllers? Like... that makes so little sense.

I hope these are fake.
nah it looks great, modern controllers are designed for women and asians, tiny pieces of trash that have kept the same mediocre ergonomics for 20 years

Those specs are far better than I expected. Was hoping for at least hall effect joysticks and we get TMR.

Valve already did Steam machines why would it go better this time?

-SteamOS is much better now, offers WAY more game compatibility and a smoother and more console like experience.
-PC gaming also seems to be more popular than ever these days.
-The Steam library is more varied than ever now, you've got almost all major AAA games, all Microsoft games, increasingly more Sony games, more indies than ever, way more support from japanese devs than back in 2015, etc

That said I don't expect this to be huge success. If it succeeds it will do so in the same way as the Seamdeck: Respectable sales for what it is, but nowhere near the sales of a popular console.

DF tested it and said it falls between a Series S and PS5.

They also said it was closer to a PS5.

Additionally, they're basically testing games that aren't specifically programmed "for" the device the way games are for a PS5 or Series S. But that's kind of expected given the nature of the system as a PC device, even if it's running the more efficient Steam OS.

Microsoft's Xbox hybrids will face similar issues in terms of actual performance vs. specs considering they will be Windows boxes optimized for PC gaming, since they're still effectively PCs running Windows.

Will this work with my Quest 3? I'm ordering one tonight if so.
Yep. I did something similar with an old wifi 5 device I have had for years. Just ask AI for setup instructions (that's what I did). Although, it should be as simple as the instructions I gave.

Steam machine is such a fucking giga Chad name.

I don't understand amd cards. Is this like a 3060 or some shit?

Looking forward to seeing some benchmarks on the Steam Machine. Given the price of PC components, this could be a great entry-level option.

The standalone dongle for the VR headset will hopefully fix some of the wireless streaming issues that the Quest has.

I've got a decent PC with a 3080, but I'm thinking about getting a Steam Machine. I love the form factor, and being able to wake it up with a controller would be awesome.

This is your new PlayStation rival
Guess so.

Funny though, it takes a PC brand to show these console manufacturers how to do hall effect sticks.

Guess PC gaming will be the future, because sooner or later consoles won't have physical games anymore. But thank god Valve's got our backs.

I was bored so I made a size comparison here with the Series X, PS5 Slim DE, a popular ITX case (Fractal Terra), and a popular mATX case (Fractal North). There's a 3d model that you can move around in the link. PS5 and Xbox are coded to their respective colors. Figured this was related to the last post so I quoted it.

No ethernet port? I wonder if they just could not squeeze it in? I guess just use a usb ethernet adapter.

Edit: Gamer Nexus showed the Ethernet Port. I'm dumb.

"Honey, did you really need another $500 gaming console?".... You turn to her and press the steam button on your controller.
