What difficulty level did you choose? I have been thinking of going back and playing through Nightmare, but not sure if it is worth the stress. Glad you enjoyed it, though, as it is my personal GOTY, even if I agree that it did drag on a bit too long.

I played through on the hardest mode. With judicious use of the flamethrower and molotovs I made it through most of the game without too many issues. The androids were a pain, particularly the orange suited ones since you can't just stun-baton them. The only real problem I had was just before the very end of the game

where the aliens and facehuggers (frequently hidden in cardboard boxes) flow thick and fast

and I was almost out of flame-based weaponry. I wouldn't play the game any other way though, it struck the right balance for me.

Get a weapon which can make the enemies bleed.
I remember there was a baseball bat at the beginning of the game which can make the enemies bleed 3x.

The game will be easy as fuck then though.

If you want all the achievements then make sure you check out some of the loot guides people have created. It's great for keeping track of stuff and making sure you don't miss any one-time pickups.

Also do all the sidequests you can find. The stories and dialogue are always worth it.

I still think most of the areas in DS2 were boring and bland and felt like they lacked any kind of inspiration and atmosphere (partly also because of the bad graphics in some of them).

Meh, I just parry their lame magic with specific shields and run up and slaughter them. Works on SL1. At the end where the two mace dudes are, just do the same and if necessary parry and roll.
