Man, if Valve is thinking of organizing 4 in-house Dota tournaments per year despite them saying TI (and that one SDD) already taking much of out them, then really what is stopping them to organize at least one for CS, or make a general Valve conference? I don't like this favoritism.

Probably because it isn't really in house, more that they are just throwing money at it

dota2 blog said:
The three additional tournaments will be Valve-sponsored events hosted by third-party organizers at different locations around the world.

Buy yeah, an in house csgo thing similar to the international is a no brainer

I'm not sorry at all

For some reason, none of the images/gif in this post show up for me, though opening them in another tab shows them. Such a weird thing.

Anyways, this is how I feel every month, though this month has been exceedingly bad, with Kickstarters and ShindoL's patreon taking away most of the money I set aside.

Do you see pics in my previous post? There is something weird going on with minus, at first I've seen pics, now I don't, it happens often lately. What's up with this? Should I look for a new host?

Valve have the organisational and communication skills of a bunch of school kids hastily cobbled together in groups to work on a project as a team.

Also Witcher III DLC is not the kind of DLC I want drip fed into the game. Cosmetic fluff and small side story content (that's probably leveled to boot) isn't something I'm really going to want to bother with if I've either gone past a certain point where it's just a needless diversion or finished with the game (Mordor was really fucking poor with this too that I feel Arkham Knight is going to do the same thing). I know there are some rather vocal peeps about 'Day One' DLC but really stuff like this is better severed being there from the start of your playthrough for maximum effect/use. If there's 12 more bits like this release in weekly batches by 2 then it seems like a really poor way to extend the life of an already mammoth game. But hey it's free right kids and in no ways a means to mask that they're actually charging for two bigger expansions down the road despite saying that they'll not charge for additional content.

btw, anybody knows what's going on with minus?

free or no free, I still think that day one dlcs are wrong and should be in the game if they were made with a game and obviously they were.
Expansions is another matter entirely.

minus has always been garbage for me

I'm open to suggestions, although changing a host is such a pain, but it seems I have to.

They said they don't like the micro dlcs and won't charge for that. They 16 tiny free dlcs are essentially a brick joke, especially the first one was an Armor set where they pictured a horse with it when they announced it. They actualyl said that they liked the great expansions of olden times and this is what the Season Pass is. I assume that heir PR said that they have to call it Season Pass so the less smart kids understand what it is. But it's two big stories, opposed to 6 batman skins, unlocking all secret thingies or hairs under Geralts arm.

Did they say what the story content was for those DLCs. If one of them isn't a mini Ciri campaign someone doesn't know what's up at CDPR.

It's no. One is a tie in about a mystery in Oxenfurt and surroundings (10 hours) and the other is a whole new region. The famous Toussaint that is free from war and apparently peaceful, but bears dark secrets (20 hours). I guess both are before the story ends.

I've been using Abload for god-knows-how-long now. The only potential issues are the 10MB size limit and the site being limited to German, but the former is really only a problem for large gifs that you shouldn't be embedding anyway and it's easy enough to navigate the site without knowing what the text says.

I see those crazy small embedded pics on gaf from time to time, but no one ever says anything about them, so I thought I'm just crazy and ignore them.

Ok I'll bite why are they wrong? Now I'm not aware when the content was created but let's say that because the game went gold about 2 months ago and there would have been plenty of other non critical or support based staff kicking their heels about for a couple of months (artists, modelers, level designs and the such like) so to keep them busy that they went to work on DLC to keep them occupied and not being paid for doing nothing would that be wrong?

It's a tricky situation to call on when you don't know how the game was budgeted, whether content was created within the confines of the productions budget or as a runoff amount of work after main production has finished and how the redemption or even price of admission for content should be without knowing these factors but the likes of preorder DLC announced months before the game has been finished let alone sent for certification or even purchasable sends a pretty clear message. Chargeable day one DLC is a more tricky beast but there's this level of balance I feel is needed with content, day one or a progressive campaign of add on content, that makes it worthwhile for the player to justify its cost and inclusion in the game (is it worth the money, will it be worth returning to the game for, will this be viable with other bigger add on content released later on) that a lot of publishers get terribly wrong

Well I can't find the original article and the message has got lost a bit in regurgitation but CDPR were quite clear that additional content should be free but only something really big is something worth charging for. At this point they weren't talking expansions, only that they'll have 16 bits of free content. It wasn't until right up to release that they dropped the 'Oh hey guess what we will have some paid additional content after all but don't worry it will be big, worthwhile content, like we said. No deets yet but you can buy it now!'. I mean forgive me for being cynical but until the actual scope of this content, and not just in terms of hours but the depth and quality of the content, I'm not casting judgement on anything until it's known what it really is. I find some folks stance towards berating other pubs for their DLC stance but applauding CDPR for their plans for The Witcher III with out knowing a fucking thing what's being offered just a tad hypocritical. I guess it's just years of marketing fluff that has eroded my trust in what pubs say.

imgur is no good, I was considering abload when I moved from imgur to minus, but that german language really rubs me the wrong way, otoh seeing as I don't have that many choices... any more suggestions? Something in english, perhaps?

be honest guys

u dont care about chinese vns and rpg maker games in greenlight

why you so mean, zky? it's for Persona 3, isn't it? I'm not saying you can't like that game, it's still a horrible game, get over it!

I see huge problem with this logic, if they have still work to do on the game, the hell they spend their time doing dlcs? There are no factors in my eyes that excuse day one dlcs, none. If you work on a game till the last day, work, polish it, if you have free time, add more content to the game, doing dlcs in that spare time is only for getting extra cash while not adding content that was created during game development time to the game. There is no discussion here, is there?

I think my point went straight over your head. I hope you're aware that a developer isn't a catch all jack-of-all-trades person who can do every single roll. There will be peeps who specialise in certain disciplines, some might be multi skilled but there will be points during development when say the character artist has no further work to do, the level planner has finished up all their tasks, character modellers and texture artists has completed their workload but these folks are still contracted employees. Their part in the production may be done, the work they completed was accounted for in the production budget but now they're still being paid to sit around doing sweet fa.

Let's see if I can sum this up in a really shitty analogy. Say if you order a meal at a restaurant, off the menu where you can see the contents of your meal and agree to pay the advertised price for the contents. Your meal what ever it is will take the chef 10 mins in prep, 5 mins to plate up and serve with an overlapping cook time of 25 mins for a total of 30 mins from start to finish. Now somewhere in that time for your meal to be brought to you the chef has approximately 10-15 mins of downtime whilst they wait for you meal to be cooked. Now they could prepare a couple of side dishes, sauces etc in their downtime so at no point in time are they sat twiddling their thumbs but this incurs further costs and ingredients not budgeted for in the meal you ordered and will pay for. Do you think any extra dishes the chef can prepare in the time it take to cook and serve you meal should be free also? Sure some restaurants will offer free accompaniments not specified on the menu for the a specific dish like bread, tables sauces, various seasoning items, even olives but more often than not extras are listed as a separate menu item at an additional cost pretty much in the way DLC is too. Like I said without knowing the cost, budget or workload of those involved it's really hard to make an informed judgement but hey we all value things differently. I just like to do so from a sense of perspective rather than lash out willy nilly because I don't like something (hahaha and I'm not saying you are either but others do).

Now I'm really fucking hungry.

I use picpar for most of the images I share (simple and easy), otherwise I go with photobucket.

day 1 dlc of this nature works because it involves people that are not working on the base game anymore

people like concept artists, modelers, texture artists, gui artists, level designers, game designers, sound designers, writers, etc.

when a game goes gold and gets approved by esrb and consoles and shit you can't just add more content to it, so all the content oriented staff can't just "add polish" to the game, it just doesn't work like that

likewise not all programmers and qa people need to work until the last minute. maybe a programmer that works on tools or shaders or whatever just can't go and fix some ai bug or whatever. the concept artists can't fix bugs, they're dumbos.

so what are those people to do, there's literally no work for them to do in the game

now you can argue that maybe they should give it away for free but i don't really see why? i mean it would be nice but if the game's already full of content as it seems to be what are you complaining about?

it's usually shit, useless content anyways

edit: oh wait

it's free

and you're complaining about it

wtf

Would you rather the thread went back to discussing who's animu 'friends' are better? On second thoughts don't answer that.

Our perceptions of value, even for stuff that is free, has the potential to be vastly different from one another. Why do you think frosty has a shit fit when someone comes in asking if 'is x worth y?'. How on earth are we to know what that persons idea of value is. Granted you could describe the game for them, what it's like, the content included, some objective and subjective observations to help that person decide weather or not that title is worth the amount it's on offer for but ultimately that's their decision unless you really know that persons tastes. For example I'm willing for drop £50 on a new AssCreed completely blind but others won't even bat an eyelid at -75% off fully well knowing the state of the game and the content included because they hold a different view on value than I do.
