I feel like less people would complain about Scholar of the First Sin if they'd just kept it at 33% off for the whole sale and then had it at a 50% off daily/flash.

I can only speak for myself, but no. I love the Souls games but the fact is that DS2 is my least favorite and I'm not going to pay much to double dip. I'm interested to see what changes they made in Scholar, but not $25 interested. It's definitely a fair price for someone who has never played it, but I paid full price at release and have a bunch of other games to occupy my time at the moment.

Edit: and Dupy was making dreams come true again. I think he's given away (and I've missed the raffle for) every summer sale game I want and have yet to pull the trigger on.

I'm not sure why anyone bought DS2 when it launched after how we were lied to. DS1 is my game of the generation but I sure as hell didn't purchase DS2 until now because of the shit treatment.

Because it was fun and it ran well. Still got 100 hours out of it and was still one of the best of 2014.

Because it ended up being the second best experience of the generation?

These reasons. And if "lied to/shit treatment" refers to the graphical downgrade then I largely didn't care. The only thing that sucked about that was that the torch was rendered nearly useless.

For me, at leas, some of it ties back to the repeated years of screwing over early adopters by not including a similar level of discount to the 'upgrade' package re: DS2, Deus Ex:HR, Xcom*(slightly different but similar principle) etc...

I can't recall of a time when it was added in. Yeah, they know they have our money already, but it's stopped me from getting either of the two mentioned, and at least one or two more I can't recall off-hand.

Doubt it. Early adopters were screwed since buying SotFS without owning DS II was 50% off, while the upgrade was only 20% off. People upgrading in the Canadian store only save $0.50 in comparison to just buying the game out, and in Europe they were the same price. A lot of the people who were looking for it this sale were hunting for the upgrade, and they were boned by Namco for picking up the game early.

I wonder if you can legitimately refund a game with the "It's not fun" reasoning.

Absolutely can, I did exactly that and was refunded within a day.

In theory they might blacklist you if you abused it heavily, but honestly, I view it as an insurance policy that will make me buy more games, not less. If I'm certain I can return anything I buy to try, I'll buy a lot more marginal games I wouldn't normally consider.

Which again, shows the power of the 'sale price' when it comes to perception of value. I was an 'early adopter' and I do not feel screwed. Your upgrade price depends on what you had, too. Like, for me, buying the game outright is cheaper than the upgrade price, but it's still essentially the same thing. In the end, it's still about weighing what what I'm getting for what it costs, which I think £15 for the revamped game plus all the DLC I never had seems decent, while many others are more worried about comparing discount percentages.

I'm pretty confident that just having 33% discount, then a 50% daily would have been the better approach. Just because it wouldn't work for you guys doesn't mean it wouldn't have helped overall. If any of y'all have worked in retail before, you might have seen how people react over these things in the past.

Bought Shadow Warrior because so many people were recommending it and it had an amazing price cut. Time to enjoy lots and lots and lots of gibs.

Also I'd like to ask SteamGAF for an opinion, out of:

Which one should I get if I can only get 1 out of the 3?
Already getting the Blackwell Bundle + one of these and that's the extent of my funds for this sale.

My heart is telling me Randal's since it's the lowest it's ever been, and according to isthereanydeal both Jade and Valdis have been 75% off before on Steam. (17 months ago for Valdis lmao)
What do you guys think?
Haven't played Randal's but...

I'd go Valdis Story. It's great bang for buck even at $7, but GOG still has it at 75% off for next 4 hours.

Bought and started Strider... You know you're playing a boring-ass game when you'd rather pause it and go do laundry and take out the trash.

Too bad, it's got everything down except for the level design. So full of invisible walls and areas you can't climb for no explicable reason, and it attempts this type of hybrid between blazing fast linear platforming and open world exploration that just does not work at all.

I just did, was approved same day today.

Glad I picked up Tales From the Borderlands on this Encore day. Just played through the first episode and it was fantastic. Good humor and very entertaining overall. First episode took a bit under 2.5 hours to complete, so the sale price of $2.50/episode works out pretty well.

Is Banished worth a punt?

Looks quite amusing.

Considering Homeworld, too, but with all the complaints about the first game's newly broken mechanics I think I'll wait for the next sale when it hopefully hits 80% off.

Indeed it does. It's a harsh city, or rather village simulation where you have to optimize the production chain proccesses. If you love fighting against windmills and accept learning by failing and getting hundreds of people, including dozens of children killed, it's the game for your.

Crap I missed on the Hatoful Boyfriend deal. Did anyone manage to get one at the $1.49 price and has an extra one? I'll give you a game of equal value in return.

Okay, GAF, I need your help! I have $35 left in my wallet and want to buy a copy of a game for me and my pal to play online with!

Examples we've enjoyed playing together online recently:
DayZ, H1Z1, Company of Heroes 2, Depth, Age of Empires II, Don't Starve Together

Already bought Ultimate General: Gettysburg. Looking at Verdun, but a tad weary because it seems like you die every minute and that may not be too fun for our pace - although war history is a great interest of ours.

CHEERS! It's been a great sale, had fun in this topic.

I think I can live without Ori and the Blind Forest for now. Maybe next sale.

Are refunds right back to your credit card or Steam wallet?

Either your steam wallet or what payment method you used for the game.(Paypal, Credit Card etc) Depending on how you want it.

My purchases:

Darksiders 1 and 2
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Ori and the blind forest
Shovel Knight
Dragon Ball Xenoverse

A few games I payed slightly more than I wanted to... but the lure of sales was too great to resist.

It's a shame that Ori and the Blind Forest has a multiple points where you are locked out of areas, preventing you from getting 100%. It's a great game other wise, the abilities are novel and interesting, it's a genuinely challenging platformer and looks beautiful. I'm thinking about going back for a couple runs to get the 100% and no dying achievements or trying out other games but either way I'm definitely going back to it.

Is Don't Starve any good? And is Castle Crashers or Battleblock Theatre any good solo — or it's a must to play multiplayer?

Castle Crashers is kinda boring alone, it's a basic beat em up with a grindy RPG aspect to it.

Battleblock has some really great puzzle design and funny narrator to keep you going but playing solo I got bored. Despite the way they mixed it up with new elements, the game feels kinda bloated. I didn't regret my time (~5h) with it but I'm not really dying to go back.

How is the DLC for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel? I loved BL1 & 2 and their subsequent DLC's, but if the season pass for TPS isn't near the level of General Knoxx or Tiny Tina's Assault then I'll just go for the base game instead.

That might have gone completely under the radar. Alphadia Genesis has a nice discount this sale, it isn't an amazing JRPG, but it has its moments. Also it's the first and only Kemco game on steam

Out of that list I have only played Jade Empire but I really enjoyed the game on PC. Played through the title via backwards compatibility on Xbox 360 a long time ago and playing through the PC version a bit last year and also this year it was clear just how much better this version is. Also, GoG has it for $2.99:

Since I built my first PC this March, I basically played "catch up". I bought games that you guys already have! My wallet has a big wound :(

Spent too much. I don't think I'll ever play 75% of these games!

This is me

>Buys all these games
>Plays War Thunder (free to play)
