Steam Summer Sales 2012 Thread: we still like you Tony

I've been expecting flash sales for a year now, or some sort of shorter, daily sale. Why? because there are just too many games. Between every sale, another 30-40 games which will do well enough on sale get added. Plus we have to have another 5$ Dead Space Franchise, Mass Effect, etc. The older ones have to be repeated again for the 10th time.

So I think this is Valve largely testing the pool to find that sweet spot.

Gaben has been unbelievably gracious to us. Praise Gaben!

The Flash sales are brilliant a marketing move. It keeps people glued in ALL DAY to Steam.

I wonder what's next. 1 hour flash sale? 5 mins? 1 min? :I
The next logical step: Continuum Sale. Deals morphing into other deals without a set time or deadline.

And then we all die.

This is my first Steam sale since I've gotten a competent computer! I picked up:

VVVVVV
Ys: Oath in Felghana
Legend of Grimrock
Dragon Age: Origins

VVVVVV and Ys are totally hair-pulling-out experiences, but fun!

Not sure if it has been posted or not but it looks like Jade Empire is FINALLY on sale again. IIRC the last time it was on sale at all was Winter of 2009. Here's to hoping it gets down to 75% off!

Today is the worst day of all time. I think my bank just locked me out of my account.

That on top of my phone breaking and doing 12 hours of manual labor earlier.

I got to recommend Warlock Master of the Arcane. I bought it at full price and wasn't disappointed. If you like Civilization type games this is a steal at $6.79

I hope that pops up later as a daily deal. It flashed up as I was getting ready to leave for work so I didn't have time to give it's demo a look-see. It looks interesting but I don't know if the heavier focus on combat will be a positive or a negative for me.

Is there more variety in it than Civ V? One of the things I didn't really like about vanilla Civ V was how everyone ended up having to research the same techs and the only real path branching was done via culture.

Yep.

Valve is tapping the dopamine receptors. Finding a great deal every so often is like finding awesome loot in a loot-whore game.

I really hope KOA goes on sale. 90% off would be awesome.

To be honest I am a little concerned about whether it will be on sale at all... Doesn't look good since it isn't marked down at all now. That seems pretty unusual that a game is full price and then becomes a daily but I hope it happens.

That sucks man. You have my sympathy. Dealing with a locked bank account is a huge pain in the ass. Hopefully it's just an error on their end and they didn't mean to do it.

The state of Rhode Island can make a pretty penny, considering they own the IP now.

I don't think KoA will go on sale at all; it has no general sale discount, likely owing to the Steam version being self-published by the now-dissolved 38 Studios.

Edit: Beaten. :(

think Serious Sam but with a sci-fi setting
and I personally think it's better
I can't agree with this. Hard Reset does some nice stuff* but I just don't like the enemies and/or combat. I can't put my finger on it. I feel like I'm getting hit when I shouldn't, missing shots that should have hit, the enemy animation isn't as readable as it should be, etc. Even when I do well, it doesn't feel satisfying.

Also, it's a little too corridor-focused for me. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since oh god I love Doom but Hard Reset has barely any breathing space and almost no branching in the map design.

*graphics in general, the in-game menus, the upgrade system, the focus on secrets

YOU HAVE 3 MINUTES TO BUY SPACECHEM. ITS 2.50.

BUY IT. ITS GREAT.

Seriously though, wanna see more love for this game.

Come home from work to find 62 pages of the sale thread. Awesome :D

I bought the Sword of Islam expansion for Crusader Kings 2 today. nothing else really appealed to me.

Bought Spacechem I think on last winter sale, breezed through the first tutorials but then hit face-first with the rock-solid wall of my own stupidity.

Maybe sometime I'll try it out again. ;(

twinturbo2

butthurt Heat fan
I got SpaceChem from one of those indie bundles- forget which one- so I'm good.

Didn't pull the trigger on The Sims 3 yet- its gotta go lower, and I have until the 23rd to do so.

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
I feel like I'm getting hit when I shouldn't

Splash damage in the game is really outrageous. That or Fletcher is one fat motherfucker, I dunno.

I still enjoy the game, but it has a lot of weird quirks that shouldn't be there.

The state of Rhode Island can make a pretty penny, considering they own the IP now.

But they would have to put the game on sale, right? I doubt whoever is in charge knows the power of Steam sales on # copies sold. Most likely it's lumped in with whatever agency/office is in charge of repo/foreclosure stuff and they don't give a single fuck if more copies are sold. They're probably more interested in the actual office space/real estate of the company.
