If I uninstall a game from Steam is there a way to save my game data for when I reinstall it?
Most games actually don't remove that data when they uninstall as is.

But if you want to be sure, you can use Google to find where the game saves its data (most should be in the users/appdata/ family of folders) and back it up.

The game is awesome (I hope you're talking about the GFW podcast) but sadly a year or so ago the community is dead. I'm sure now its even worse.

Your talking about actual save games? Those should never be deleted when you delete a Steam game. There may be a few that keep saves in their own game folder for some reason, but most will be in My Games/etc where they will be safe from Steam's wrath.

Prettttty sure it was in a Computer Gaming World magazine. I loved me some Tom vs Bruce. ;p

So torn right now. I was pretty meh about Fallout 3 from top to bottom and after hating Oblivion I've come to the conclusion that Bethesda games aren't for me. Huge RPG fan in general though I do like most of Obsidian's offerings jank and all, so I'm officially on the fence about Fallout: NV.

I'm a little bummed, so far I've gotten:

Back to the Future: $12.50
Magicka + Magicka Vietnam: $5.08
Transformers x2 (gifted to a friend for co-op): $14.98
Frozen Synapse: $12.50

Magicka was okay for a while, but got old pretty fast. Transformers seems ok, but it's kind of 'jumpy' and giving me a bit of a headache (and they didn't have keys most of the day so I didn't get to enjoy playing it on my day off).

Frozen Synapse just seems too hard for me, I really suck at it and I'm not having a great time. Back to the Future is pretty cool, but I'm a bigger fan of the movie than adventure games so I don't really dig on the trial and error gameplay.

I don't know, maybe my hopes were just too high or I'm buying the wrong games, but I've been pretty let down so far. I realize a lot of that is my own personal tastes, I don't mean to hate on any of the games, just not really enjoying any of them that much. =\

I know what you mean. It sounds like you're buying games in genre's that don't really interest you. Have you played Trine or Lara Croft: GOL? Two of the best games I've ever played.

I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?

On the off chance you're not talking about save games, right clicking on a game and selecting "Backup Game Files..." will let you make a backup with a nifty install executable and everything. I used to use it to put games on an external drive so I could free up space. For more games. There's an option to cut the backup file into specific sized pieces so you can put them on CDs, DVDs, flash drives, what have you.

I'm downloading MW2, but it wants to download MW2 and MW2 - Multiplayer, both massive files. Is it really necessary to download both of them? I would've thought assets would overlap.

thanks to everyone who told me how to get punkbuster to work on Steam BFBC2, everything is great now, I can finally get into the groove of the game w/o being kicked.

stealth: lol that was 30 pages ago

You'll have to share the fix with me. I've tried virtually everything and I still get kicked. I hate PB with a passion.

New Vegas is a lot like FO3 but with most of the elements you probably really like about Obsidian games (great writing/plot and interesting characters). But the perspective, combat and the character building stuff isn't really different from Fallout 3.

Darksiders PC is kind of fucked up.

Only resolution and VSync options?

And it was an eight month port?
It does end up looking quite lovely if you enable AA yourself.

They do overlap so it forces you to DL both.

I didn't care much for FO3 or Oblivion, but I loved NV. I ended up going back to FO3 and eventually liked it.

But yea, NV is a little more structured than the other bethesda games.

That's not entirely true. Sure, you won't hop on and find servers and servers of people, but I'm a member of a group that shoots out event announcements pretty much every day. There is a small, active community around the game still.

Might be better off getting Bloody Good Time though. Cheaper, newer and easier to get a couple people into a server, in my experience.

Close to non-existent.

However, every time I've started a listen server with friends and bots two or three people have trickled in.

I hated the combat in FO3. I forget the specifics of my exact build but after about 5 in hours I pretty much relied on VATS and chaining multiple headshots (or whatever weak point) and spamming med kits for every single encounter for the rest of the game.

Is Fallout: NV any better?

Yay, at 70% on Darksiders. Been working on it since Saturday on our Roadrunner Basic (2 Mb/s).

It's going to take me a week at least for Dragon Age Ultimate.

I haven't played any of them! I'm brand new to PC gaming. I'm just hoping it goes lower than $13. I will totally buy it for that price, not complaining, I'm just hoping it'll get lower.
Get Shadows of Chernobyl or Call of Pripyat. Much better than Clear Sky.

Steam is flipping out.

"Your purchase has not been completed.
The payment processor has reported an authorization failure. Please select a different payment method."

and I'm using funds from my wallet...

Your Alpha Protocol will have to wait Salsa.

This happened to me last night. Wouldn't let me pay with anything - not either of two credit cards, paypal, or steam wallet funds. I contacted support, and the next morning they got back to me telling me to delete everything in the Steam folder except Steam.exe and the steamapps where all the games are stored) then launch Steam and try again. It does the email verification again, then it worked.

To be honest though, I suspect there was a flag on my account and they took it away since I also wasn't able to purchase anything on the website with any payment method either.

Well, if you play on Hardcore mode (which you absolutely should if you ever play NV), Stimpaks heal over time so spamming them isn't as effective as it is in FO3 (though the heal over time regen does stack on itself). Also VATS does not offer very much damage reduction; in FO3 you had 90% DR whenever you got hit during a VATS animation but in NV it's only 25%. There's a lot of balance type changes to the combat, but fundamentally it is the same combat system.

I guess the question is, did you just chain headshots and spam Stimpaks because you felt you had to, or because you hated it altogether and wanted to get through it as fast as possible?

But what are the requirements? :( Can I grab one, try the demo, see how it runs, and then if it runs like ass you could give it to someone else instead?

Just use GameSaveManager. It finds and backs up 99% of save games with no problems, and then you don't have to worry when uninstalling anything. And for the extremely rare game it can't find, just google where the save games are stored.

Okay! I don't like downloading things that I don't know much about, but I guess I'll just have to trust you guys.

lol, Alpha Protocol is only 1.1 gigs of space? That seems really odd.

edit: nevermind its 11 gigs, steam indicates a wrong install size

A bursting selection, I'm holding out hope for Bloodlines and DE1 being dailies. I think Bloodlines is likely.

I've used it pretty much since its release and never had any problems. It's also been recommended in numerous reputable publications like PC Gamer. It will ask for administrative permissions, but I frequently forget to give it that and it still works.

I have so much to play already. Frozen Synapse looks like the must buy for me this time around as I already own Trine and Fallout NV.

I'm tempted by Singularity and Alpha Protocol but of those two I think I'd only get time to finish the former.

Total Halibut's coverage on the game, along with the thread, has made Frozen Synapse a buy.

Is the community for AC:Brotherhood multiplayer dead? I did the tutorial level and I thought "This is pretty fucking cool" Then I tried to join a game and nothing.

Waited about 20 minutes too.
