Eschalon Book 1 & 2 are now on sale at the Steam summer sale;

Eschalon: Book I - $3.74
Eschalon: Book II - $4.99

Got book I gifted by a friend yesterday and I was immediately hooked! Although the graphics are nothing special, the sound and music are amazing! Game really has a great atmosphere and the dialog is surprisingly well written!
Now I haven't got Book II yet but supposedly it improves on a lot of things.

Some screens;

And that GODLY main theme song;

Definitely worth a pickup IMO.
I'm probably going to purchase book II before the end of the sale as well.
Great BUMP for a great game.

I was playing some Defense Grid trying out the new achievement maps, and I had forgotten how addictive and sometimes frustrating that game is. There's nothing worse than watching a flying enemy grab a core, get blown up, and then make it irretrievable when you're 2-3 waves away from the end.

Looks like Atom Zombie Smasher tomorrow. I can heartily recommend that one.

Might be an achievement I guess.

The Maw should go on the deal list. 2.50 for the base game, 2.99 with all the DLC.

Backspace! Believe me you haven't known TD frustration until you are two hours into a map on a game with no rewind and you get knocked out in the last couple waves...at least DG lets you go back.

What.

This isn't something I knew about. What the hell. I've been living a lie. It probably wouldn't have saved me in all the situations I sometimes find myself in but HOLY SHIT how was this not made clear to me?!

I will try this next time I play.

Real TD, with 7 other players!

No wonder you've been frustrated! The robot dude tells you all about it in the second or third mission. XD

Man, Zombie Driver's pad support kind of sucks. Menu navigation is done entirely via keyboard & mouse, the control explanations/graphics on the first level are done strictly for kb&m, and the gamepad button set up options are some weird generic set-up and not a 360 pad which is the most likely gamepad people will be using to play this game.

Seems like it could be a fun mindless distraction in short bursts.

Insta-bought when I saw that it had Steamplay. :) Finally, something I can play in the meanwhile on my game-starved, power-stunted Mac. Can't wait to build a beast so I can start to tackle this...

If you're making a list of easy-to-miss deals, then I'll suggest adding:
Time Gentlemen, Please! and Ben There, Dan That! Double Pack - $1.24

It's the same price it was when it was a Deal of the Day a some time back, so I doubt it'll be a daily deal.

You can actually navigate the menus with the 360 pad, but yeah... the controls are all arse-backwards in the menus. Once you get to the game though, it's beautiful. Reminds me of GTA1 and 2 when you ran over peds. Very satisfying.

Not really a good day for me, except for Trine maybe.

I would almost buy it just to complete the achievement but I need to realise that there
is no way I'm gonna win that Grand Prize Give-Away.

I'm thinking about giving in to these complete packs on Steam. I've been holding back for a while... but it's so cheap! I'll never play these games... but I could own them!

MUST RESIST URGE.

Zombie Driver's ticket is pretty easy too, you just have to survive two waves or so and there's all sorts of dogs to set on fire.

Serious Sam HD's also can be done in less than five minutes. You can just run through the first level to the pool (third section), wait for someone to spawn and jump into them until they fall in.

After having tried demos, I think I'm going to get Gratuitous Space Battles as I don't see it going lower than 75%, though I might wait a few days to see if it does...

AI War though has just been pretty complex for me. If it goes on sale for more than 50% I might pick it up but it seems like a game with a steeper learning curve and I dunno if I'm up to it.

You guys who prefer that bright and cheerful Mary Poppins world Resident Evil 5 are freaking crazy. More clear detail does not always mean better looking. The original look is atmospheric. Like a washed out 7o's horror flick. There should be no bright blue skies or brightly contrasted t-shirts straight from the mall. This is fucking Resident Evil, not Mario Galaxy.

It is as if someone would hand you guys a Monet and you'd say "wait we need to turn up the resolution; it is too fuzzy!"

I nearly caved in to Steam's charms. I was close to buying the id pack and then thought "I should get the Unreal pack too OH GOD IT'S HAPPENING" and then promptly removed both from cart.

That was a close one!

I love discovering titles like Machinarium, Osmos, and World of Goo. I guess it's because you go in expecting so little, and are constantly surprised.

I'm a Mac user. Are there any other lovely bundles of indy joy available on Steam that I might be interested in?

Thanks!

What genre do you prefer?

The hardest thing for me right now is staying disciplined, and systematically going through my games. I've spent a bit of time with Defense Grid and Frozen Synapse, but mostly I'm trying to finish Divinity II. I think I'm getting near the end of that one, but now I have so many other games tugging me in different direction! XD

Probably two of the best Indie discoveries this year and the best games in their genre this year.
Seriously both are great and convinced about 80 Gaffers already from their greatness :)

Aquaria should absolutely be on the hidden gems list. For $5 it's a steal.

Check out the Official Thread and an appreciation thread.

It's a metroidvania game underwater. Emphasis on exploration and combat against fishy creatures, all sorts of items and abilities and forms to change up your playstyle.

Starts out slow but once you get into the combat and finding stuff, it gets cool. PROTIP: The number keys let you change forms without having to stop and sing. This is so useful, I really wish I had known about it before I beat most of the game.

Buy this game.

And.... sold.

Just started up Bully and man is this port horrible.

Locked 30fps, low quality sounding audio effects, and terrible gamepad support all noticed in the first 3 minutes of playing.

How the hell did they not notice the 360 controller problem? I can't run up, but i can run left right, down. Ughh

So far was i was able to unlock the fps, but the horrible sound and gamepad support is killing me.

Anyone know a fix for the 360 pad issue?

I don't have any control issues with my official MS branded wired 360 controller. I just tested it in game, everything was fine.

Shiiiiiiit. I think I might never buy any rockstar games on PC again.

Looking forward to getting into Frozen Synapse, was a steal at ~$7. Will finish off the Trine ticket sometime today. I'll pass on Fire & Sword until next time.. am currently more than satisfied with my M&Blade purchase from the last Christmas sale :3

Sooo now that I've got the time, a bit of convincing work for the ones that didnt know about this game until today or those that only check the Steam thread through sales:

Guys, please for the sake of videogaming, BUY FROZEN SYNAPSE, you get 2 copies for the price
It will be the last game I am (deservedly) annoying you with. It is probably the best new IP this year, and I'll bet it will top a few bigger GOTY lists in the strategy category.

EXCEPT GUYS WITH 6900 series AMD cards, many people with those cards seem to experience issues.

Here is a video that convinced a lot Gaffers, its better in describing than I could:
Awesome Youtube Vid
Same Vid, cut to the impressions

IGN 8.5/10

It's a tactical shooter ala X-Com/Jagged Alliance except that you and your opponent plan your moves at the same time and then they execute simultaneously.

Sort of like a 2 player plan mode from old school Rainbow 6.

I bought this game a week ago, and I've got to say that it's fantastic. It's one of the best releases of the year for me, and it's chock-full of content.

Highly recommended for fans of tactics games like JA2, XCOM, etc.

30% off finally pushed me to pre-order this. Wish I had bought it sooner, it's so deliriously good.

I love how the game encourages you to play at your own pace...and you never find yourself particularly aggravated if the other player is taking too long, because you can just pop open another game while you wait. Or, you can close the client and do something else...and they'll email you when the other player takes their turn.

I had no idea until after I bought this that a Mac client exists too. Truly a pleasant surprise. I do wish the devs would put in an option to bounce the dock icon for alerts though, especially turn update notifications.

I FINALLY bought this game. Sale was just the icing on the cake. $13 on STEAM (2 copies!) is a steal. I already played the first few missions of the campaign and I can tell that this is the kind of game I was hoping for. I think the coolest thing about this game, is its the first 'simultaneous turn based multiplayer game Ive ever heard of, much less played. And it is a FINE entry into the genre, if there are others.

This game is going to be timeless, i hope. Just like Counterstrike.
