Steam Summer Sales Thread: remember: you can actually play after buying

Fuck I've been really self-controlling this sale:

Recettear - $5.00
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - $13.66
The Last Remenant - $9.99

Total: $28.65

The only games I have on my eye left are Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Portal 2, Mass Effect 1 and 2, and Dead Rising 2.

Capcom are dicks so Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition won't go on sale.

Dead Rising 2 was already on an embarrassing sale.

Mass Effect 1 an 2 are on sale, but Mass Effect 1 is priced too high.

Portal 2 is the only game left that I want right now.

I bought more than I thought I would, but I don't regret any purchases so far. Found a few gems through the daily achievements. Atom Zombie Smasher and Sanctum are both fantastic twists on tower defense, may be my two favorites so far.

I don't think I've ever played a legitimate tower defense game before.

It's kinda charming and humorous and a pretty solid puzzle platformer. Art is nice too. Worth $1.25 easy enough.
Hmm, yeah, it is kind of hard to pass a dollar game. The title and art is what caught my eye.

Picked up SpaceChem, Frozen Synapse, Doom 3 Pack, Fallout 3 GOTY and Mafia so far. I've gone ahead and added them to my PC backlog...

That's not even every PC game, either. There were a few from the SEGA/Dixons UK promo that I got for free which don't work with the Steam overlay.

I think I've gotta show some self control and start plugging away at these.

So around $23.

I don't know if i am turning into a cheapskate or something :lol

Well, registration is open again on Backloggery, and they've got trophies for clearing your backlog. You like trophies, don't you?

Hamilton's Great Adventure is really really great, a candidate for puzzle game of the year in my opinion, and I'm totally disappointed that my dumb ass is in the top 50 on the leaderboards pretty consistently by the end of world 2 / beginning of world 3. Doesn't seem like many people bought it, and doesn't seem like many who did played much of it. Very unfortunate.

I find it's actually more fun to play the game replaying each level until you get a Gold ranking. Often times just finishing the level is quite easy, but getting Gold requires some really labyrinthine traversal. Very rewarding!

Nope. *cry*

fwiw Last Remnant's achievements on 360 royally suck so if you're part of the "achievements structure my play" camp you aren't missing much, and if you're part of the "i like tracking my friends' progress" camp you aren't missing much. of course if you're part of the "i like it when my little score goes up" camp, there's that.

I said that after the last Christmas Sale, and after the last Summer Sale, and also the Christmas Sale before that. Seriously.

You will be $100-$200 deep again after the coming Christmas Sale. Believe it.

:< .. Steam support group incoming?

Quick question, Alpha protocol was blocked in my country during the sale (in fact searching for it now, I only find a trailer).

If it does show up on the final day .. how would I go about acquiring it?
(When adding money to your wallet, is your creditcard's billing address checked against the country of purchase? Or can I just use a vpn and buy it?)

Quotation from two pages ago (100ppp)

yea, many of the cheevos on 360 are time consuming to get so don't play it for that.

They also have terrible descriptions and clues so unless you're using X360A or whatever you're not likely to actually have a fucking clue what the achievements are actually for.

The Last Renmant doesn't appear on the frontpage for me (spain here) but if I go to the game's page it says is 75% off and a daily deal...

One thing about the leaderboards, if you are playing with a controller you are only getting half of the score for the level.

The developers added a "perk" for co-op play that essentially doubles the score for each coin you pick up. The problem with this is that by default, using mouse and keyboard, you are considered as playing co-op, even if you are not. So anybody playing with a controller (which Hamilton's integrates extremely well), you are screwed on the leaderboards.

To Worms or not to Worms?
I would say no.

I caved in and got SR2. I'm sorry but I've been wanting to play it for a looong time. I'll still buy ME2 so you guys don't have to worry :p

I'm trying to get the ticket for the Spiral Knights achievement, but I can't log in with Steam. It says "Logging on..." and then 30 seconds later it says "You have been disconnected". I couldn't really find anything definitive by Googling, so you are my last resort GAF! Please help!

Should I feel compelled at all to buy Conviction at that price? In all likelihood I won't get around to playing it for a long while.

It's been this cheap before and it'll be this cheap again. I felt that it was a good game, but setting aside the quality, if you're buying for some nebulous future time where you'll feel like playing it, and you're pretty sure that time will be after the Christmas sale, you might as well wait.

I am playing with a keyboard and mouse so I guess that gives me an advantage on the leaderboards? Still, though, even if 90% of people are playing on controller, I still feel like I'm too high in the leaderboards for my typical skill at games.
