Steam Summer Sales Thread: remember: you can actually play after buying

I got the Toki Tori ticket, finally. It took me a while, and I had to switch to a controller for the last few hard levels. Redeemed the three tickets I had for the Beat Hazard gold ship. :3

Also bought the PA games since I had the first one on 360 and never finished it. For $2? Why not.

doesnt look too good, fucking EA

Mirror's Edge was on sale all the time and now i lost my retail disc, i want that steam copy you fucks :(

Don't worry. EA will concoct some phantom excuse as to why it's Steam's fault that their games aren't on sale like they do with every Steam-EA issue that no one else ever has with them.

I'd like to thank the academy for being able to recognize Kevin Smith references.

If you want another allusion to Jaws, go watch Chasing Amy and the sex injury scene.

Ah, hell, I'll link it.

I NEVER noticed that callback to Mallrats with the whole Banky Edwards eating out Brandy Svening. Being a massive Kevin Smith fan, it made me squeel like a school girl. That was a nice treat, thank you for that SalsaShark and bigwinnerx!

So the "Check name availability" on the website actually doesn't work, as it return the name is available despite already taken. Making up a new login name solve the error.

So I just bought

Borderlands: GOTY
Oblivion: GOTY
BIT.TRIP.RUNNER (Hadn't heard of the game till today, and saw there was two different games to purchase when clicking it, I chose this one since it was the name on the deal)
Recettear (I've only heard somethings about this game, but what I have heard was that it was good)
Warhammer Retribution
LEAD AND GOLD (Never heard of it till today)

You guys think that X3: Terran Conflict will make it into a daily deal seeing as there's summer reward and most likely summer achievements as well?

Should I buy Witcher 2 now? Not sure if I will play it anytime soon.

If there's not a burning desire to play I'd wait. They're going to keep releasing more DLC for it, performance will only get better with updates to both the game and drivers, and maybe they'll fix a few of the problems with it as well. But I agree it's not going to get any cheaper for awhile.

So can you only get these specific tickets today?

Also how is DOW retribution, I have DOW2 and thought it was fun, how does it compare?

Witcher 2 is more expensive on sale then it was to pre order on steam, and is currently cheaper not on sale at other non steam stores.

Australians get treated like idiots in these sales.
Maybe in austrailia. It was $45 USD preorder, and its like $34 USD now

You could get better deals by waiting for more Dailies.
I guess you mean mainly in reference to Frozen Synapse...? I mean, the others are already all so low I doubt there's much more to be saved from there (and even if there were a little I wouldn't feel like I'd lost out by getting them at their current prices).

Killing Floor. In fact, I'm gonna boot it up myself.

Is Borderlands fun in single-player?

I've played Borderlands for nearly 30 hours, most of it by myself because Gamespy sucks. It's easier to solo with some classes/builds than it is others but it's fun to play if you love loot games. "New shotgun, moar numbars!"

It's even more fun if you can find a few people to play the game with.

Screw that AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity ticket. Too hard for me.

I'm tired of them manipulating me into playing that game. This is the third time!

Yeah Frozen might drop further, but honestly it's worth that price.

I just bought Bit Trip Runner because of how much OP loved it. Well...

FUCK THIS GAME! I CANNOT BEAT THE SECOND FUCKING LEVEL WORTH A SHIT! I KEEP DYING ABOUT 20 SECONDS IN IT! I CAN'T DO THE FUCKING SHORT JUMPS UP THE LEDGES I'VE TRIED LIKE FIFTY FUCKING TIMES IN A ROW

I also have a terrible time trying to focus. Everything moves so fast on the screen. My eyes are all glazed out now and I have a headache from the fucking music.

Yeah I recall trying it once and (waits for PC GAF to freak) the lack of controller support turned me right off. I know, Mouse and Keyboard is better blah, blah, blah, I can't stand playing FPS that was as someone who grew up with Goldeneye and Halo, I can't unlearn 15 years or so of gaming.

Holy shit @ Bit.Trip Runner. GET THIS GAME. You'll feel like a platforming god at the end of each stage, even if the stage was probably fairly easy. It's Canabalt meets Audiosurf meets the early 90s

Sounds like too much work for me.

I've got Bit Trip ticket and Swords & Soldiers ticket. Toki and AAaa seem to be too much work for my lazy ass. I guess I can farm Lead & gold and that will be enough for today.

If you have a decent rig and like shooters, then you should play at least a couple of hours of Crysis before you do anything else. If shooters are not your thing, I lost 82 hours to King's Bounty games... Do I really need to say more?

Machinarium because it's so goddamn beautiful.

I've had the same problem in the past of having to switch back and forth between them, but it's definitely worth getting used to M+K (and it might take a while, but it will happen). You certainly don't want to go into a competitive game using a controller.

I've had no issue schooling everyone I run into in Monday Night Combat with my controller, but I do get your point. Well, any GAFers willing to deal with someone incredibly shitty in Killing Floor? Add PetriesLastWord

About 20 minutes before Lead and Gold finishes downloading. Anyone willing to help me out to complete the achievement?

If you have a controller compatible with your PC go with Super Meat Boy.

Someone needs to point me in the direction of an actual tutorial or something for this game, as when I did boot it up, I could not figure out what was actually going on with the battle system at all.

Everyone else who has replied so far is wrong. The answer is obviously Deus Ex.

(And then Crysis after that)

Does the longest journey not run well on laptops or something? I have a POS laptop that was relatively high end for a laptop in 2006 but when I play this game it stutters like crazy, even the sound. I know this thing is horrible but I figure it should plow through a game from 2000. It can play Deus Ex 1 with no problems so I have no clue what's going on.

Basically this. Both Beat and Runner give me a terrible headache and eyestrain. Why these games are so universally praised is beyond me... but whatever.

Not only that, I have unnatural hate for the font that they use. Nearly fucking unreadable...

I went through the same thing the first time I played it. Once you get the rythym of the steps down though, you almost never lose it.

Also it is easier on the eyes if you find a way to play on a TV not ten inches from your face.
