Steam Summer Sales Thread: remember: you can actually play after buying

Having a recap day with the best selling games as deals, would still be considered as 'new daily deals', as the sales are arranged In a new fashion.

If it is a recap day, what can we expect to see? Is there any way to see what deals have had the best sales? I'm hoping for Oblivion, I should have picked it up :(

I'm happy with my tally so far:
  • Terraria
  • Audiosurf
  • Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition
  • Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
  • Half-Life Complete
  • Time Gentlemen, Please!
  • Star Wars: KOTOR
  • Oblivion Game of the Year Deluxe
  • The Longest Journey
  • Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

I plan to pick up Vampire Bloodlines and some Indy games tomorrow.

He found those yesterday I believe. And people have been able to find the franchise sales the prior day all week.

Ah, I wondered if there was any significance to not all of the headers showing up for today (e.g. NWN2, Portal 2, and Sam & Max franchise sale headers aren't listed along with the four we already knew before today).

I expect we'll see a recap tomorrow though.

I'm getting very tempted to pickup Vampire today.

I should wait though, just in case.

That could well mean we won't have new sales tomorrow. It probably does, but unless I'm looking in the wrong place for the header images, I don't see images for most of today's sales either.

The only header images I see for today are the ones that 3chopl0x confirmed - Dead Space, Hitman, POP and the X games.

Only franchise sales were put up there, so unless tomorrow has no franchise sales at all it will be a recap day.

I did a quick search for X3: TC ticket on here with no dice.

So I just bought the game, really liking my time with it so far but I haven't even figured out all the controls just yet.

What do I need to do to get the summer ticket. Open star map or w/e, then how can I get to an area with a sun?

Pressing all the buttons I did manage to get a list of all the structures in the 'sector' so a Solar Power Plant should show up if I can find one.

I got the prize so maybe that area has one? Also am I just going to be able to waltz in there and blow that shit up? lol

Sorry for the ignorance.

I don't remember where it is because I'm not in the mood to play my X3 right now, but it's in a different sector than the one you start in. Theres some jump gate that used to be not working, that now is working but I'm not sure if that's the case.

You'd find better help on the egosoft forums.

No FEAR 2 sale. FEAR pack (1+2+DLC) is on sale for €10: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/6947/

That's a great deal, except I already played thru Fear 1 and Extraction Point. In fact, FEAR Gold edition was the first game I bought for my new PC four years ago. US $1200 only got me a E6420 @ 2.13 GHz, 2GB of RAM, and a 320 MB 8800 GTS back then. I still regret going cheap on the processor, lol.

"If it looks too good to be true, buy it before it's too late" should be the official rule #2 of Steam sales. I saw that a couple pages back...I like it.

I have no idea how people can complain Dead Space 2 is too expensive when it's $15, half a year after release.

There would still be someone in here saying it's too much if it was $14/$13/$12/$11/$10, it doesn't really matter...don't worry about it too much

I don't understand how some people can complain that Portal 2 is too expensive at $25 less than three months after release

Terraria is still very much worth it at $5, I hope if some of you were interested in trying the game out for 2.50 you give it a chance for the current price.

Saige

I must do better.
Final Count:
Heroes pack
Fallout NV DLC
Alpha protocol
Civ Viking DlC
Deus Ex
Hitman : Blood Money
Puzzle Agent 1+2
Eschalon: Book 1+2
RUSH
Machinarium
VVVVVV
Greed Corp
Penny Aracde Episode Pack

Total: $56.25

Spent almost twice what I planned, but that should be enough games to last me a long while.

A lot of us, myself anyways and based on responses I'm not the only one, $35 or $25 or even $15 is too much for "impulse buying"

A purchase where it's "IDK what to expect but I'm gonna throw my money at it and figure it was worth it or not"

Steam tends to cull you into impulse purchases, and for a lot of people anything over $5-10 is too much money. Purchases under $5 tend to be "okay I don't care, I'll make it up later if it's bad"

I wont think much if it's something I'm mildly interested in under 5, I'll think hard for 10, I'll deeply consider for $15, but ignore anything over that unless it's some quadruple AAAA title I've been frothing over for months or years (The Witcher 2).

I dunno, Alpha Protocol I jumped at for 33 in the sale last year because I was pretty interested in it, and actually played through it ASAP unlike most Steam sale games, but I probably could've waited a few more months and gotten it REALLY cheap. Hell, wasn't it going for $5 earlier in the sale?

The bonus sector is north of Elysium of Light, which conveniently gives you a Solar Plant of your own once you arrive there. I blew it up and didn't get the achievement, so I'm not sure if it's because I owned it or the achievement doesn't work.

I hope some folks are willing to give Supreme Commander 2 the chance it didn't seem to get. Amazing game in co-op, and coupled with the cheap-as-chips expansion pack, you've got a lot of robots to play with.

Campaign isn't worth much, but comp-stomp doesn't get much better for a macro RTS.

$35 here in Australia. Or $20 for the bundle oddly enough. Silly EA and their regional pricing snaffu.

I can't tell if you're expressing regret or not. I mean...that's a GOOD thing, right? You were interested so you bought it, you played it...presumably, you had fun. Yeah you can always wait and get it cheaper, but if it's what you want to play right now, is it really better to take that $33 and spend it on half a dozen different games you have only a passing interest in? $5 is still a mediocre buy for me when it comes to Alpha Protocol, because I'm not that interested in playing it.

This is true of any game on any platform, it's just especially true on Steam because the price drops can be so dramatic. Am I going to feel like a fool when Portal 2 goes on sale for less than $20 in six months? Hell no. It is at the perfect wait time:price ratio for the level of interest I have in the game right now. That $25 wouldn't have been better spent on Alpha Protocol and four other $5 games I've heard good things about but that never struck a chord with me. They'd just spend the next six months rotting in my library.

I'm calling it quits on buying.

Just got a new build, and had a lot of PC gaming catching up to do.

This week I bought:

L4D2
The Witcher 2
Borderlands GoTY
Fallout 3 GoTY
BF Bad Company 2
Civ 5

Should keep me busy until BF3, Diablo 3, and Star Wars TOR hit later this year.

FUCK! That price change on Terraria. I had it in my cart. I had it in my fucking cart first thing while I was deciding on other stuff. It's not so much the minimal price change as it is the stupidity of a price change this late. God damnit.

They did (at least on deathspank) a sale or two or three ago, I got it at some kind of discount I'm sure.. I don't really buy games at full price now. Just not this sale :(

It changed in your cart too? That sucks. I'm still kinda pissed. I was waiting around to see if my friend would come online to see if he wanted to try a 4 pack or I was just going to buy it when I was done studying, but I get back to my computer and nope, 5 bucks.

It doesn't mean much, the price changes on checkout anyways. I'm just pissed because I had every opportunity to buy it, then they changed the price in the evening, after running that price all day. While I was mulling over other purchases. It's shitty. Someone's kind of a dick.

Eh, more that I'm conflicted. I was a bit let down, but it was still enjoyable and I actually beat it so that, by default, makes it a better purchase than most Steam games. I just think I could've afforded to wait a bit longer unless that purchase was still during the time it'd have a positive effect for Sega/Obsidian. In contrast I also got Bioshock 2 in that same sale, and while it's gotten MUCH cheaper since I enjoyed it way more than I expected, so $15 is perfectly fine. That, and good luck buying most console games at a lower price unless it's used bargain bin crap.

My problem with these games everyone raves about for co-op like that or whatever, is the real-life friends I do have play SC2 pretty much exclusively, along with TF2, and when I play with Gafers or others online, they simply end up annoyed by my lack of ability. Kills any enjoyment, and as such they lose a purchase.

Ah. Yeah, I know the feeling. It's hard to buy something for 5 bucks when it was 2.50 so recently (and should have stayed at that price for a while), even if it's still extremely cheap. Just something about it feels crappy.

So kotor was working perfectly with my win7, but now it seems I can no longer progress the story. I have two different saves really close to fighting Malak for the first time and every time I get into the Ebon hawk and shoot all the fighters the screen goes black and it stops working. :/

I have tried running as admin with win xp compatible mode and every suggestion on the steam forums and had no luck. I still feel I more then got my money's worth, but just a bummer and I needed to vent.

Anyone else completely locked out of Steam or playing games?

I can't believe I keep supporting this service; I should learn my lesson. If the servers are too busy, why can you still accept my credit card information?

Ok gaf, sorry to be pain, need your wisdom on the following:

X3 - What is this? Seems nice, but what is it? Is turn-based strategy?
Hitman: Blood Money - Dated?
Neverwinter Nights 2 - I played the first one, the second seems different by the screenshots. I'm having a blast with Oblivion right now. Buy?

Did anyone possibly grab a four-pack of Terraria before the price was raised, with an extra copy hanging around for sale?

If not.. dramatic sigh~~~ Is there another 4-pack gathering anywhere?

No problems here. Care to explain what exactly is happening?

I've been reading up on X3 a bit, and it looks like an offline Eve game. So no buy here. Looks just as tedious.

Hitman is good, but it's kinda old yeah.

NWN2 is a bit old as well, but a great game. Think more along the lines of Dragon Age or BG.

I haven't had any luck finding one. DoctorWho said he was interested in a 4-pack and I would be as well.
