Stellar Blade - PC Demo out now

This was my issue with the PS5 demo, I thought it felt awful. Was hoping for a PC mod that might make it feel better.

the controls in the original PS5 demo weren't the same as in the final build. they took feedback from the demo and did improve some aspects of the controls.

I'm not sure what exactly changed tho

Finished the demo and the extra boss no problem. I didn't do too much messing about with settings but at 1440p I can run it maxed out with just DLAA and it generally sits around 144fps (my monitor's max). To be expected though with a W11, 7800X3D, 4070S, 32GB RAM PC.

I recall thinking she felt off in the PS5 demo as well but in the full game she felt fine (this was easily my GotY last year). Hard to remember specifics though as it's been a year since I last played it.

Edit: I still love the music in Eidos 7

The demo may have unsold me on the game.

The port seems good. Runs really well, supports ultrawide, frames aren't capped, good amount of settings etc.

The character is too close to the camera and the FOV is too shallow, even at ultrawide. Feels claustrophobic.

Graphics look kind of dated and image quality is also pretty bad no matter the setting, even at 5760x2400. I don't think the Chromatic Abberration setting is working. TAA is garbage as usual, and DLSS4 looks worse than it should for some reason.

Gameplay feels kind of janky and is pretty bland so far, but that can improve with more abilities. Maybe the story is what carries this game. I'll try again later and see how it goes.

The character is TOO CLOSE to the camera ?! what?
Like.. you want here to be in another state?!

I couldn't find a camera angle where I don't point upwards for some reason.... so maybe that's your problem

quick impression after the opening:

-no shader pre-compilation step and yet stutter free unless its was so short that I missed it, looks like its using real time shader pre-compilation like LAD Isshin and the game is stutter free. Good
-Graphics scale higher than PS5 pro, shadow is much higher rest and they added high frequency detail to the environment so the char and environment texture quality are much more consistent
-running on a 4080, 4K 21:9 1620p DLAA never dip lower below 120fps. Very impressive
-Letterbox 21:9 or 32:9 options available in the option do I don't need to fudge my desktop res to get ultrawide support.

overall very very polished

Works well on my 3060 12GB. Good to see ultrawide support and higher refresh rates out of the box compared to the typical port (especially ones from other regions like JP). Thanks John Shift Up. Ordered the complete edition.

The parry feels a lot nicer compared to the ps5 version. I'll def dip in again but not for a bit as I'm about to blow a load on Switch 2.

The game is so much more than just the costumes... these are fun side quests rewards but the game itself is amazing regardless of that.

Pc gamers:
-Mods "all costumes unlockable" + nude outfits day1
Then no incentive to do side quests, no seriousness in main quest because you are running around naked
"men this game is overrated"

Bro, gonna do what I wanna do. If I want to play collect'em-all I will.

Also, I always thought the gameplay looked really fun. Lots of slow motion and shit which I go crazy over.

Runs great, no stutters that I can tell.

What's up with the targeting? When you press R3, it targets an enemy but you can never change the target with the flick of the right stick. You have to either kill the enemy, or press R3 again to untarget the enemy and then press R3 again and hope it targets another enemy. No way that's intended.

Really? For me, it only seems like UE5 games have the issue. I am kind of old, so I may also be misremembering. 🤷‍♂️

UE4 does seem to replicate more of those issues when trying to render larger open-world areas, traversal stutter has always been a thing in big areas since UE3. Shader compilation I think is helped with smaller level design where the CPU load isn't as high, mitigating it getting overwhelmed if it has to compile shaders on the fly.

so how bad are the stutters?

UE on PC by a dev that never made a AA game before 😬
Zero stutters for my system. My PC has a 5800X3D 32 gigs of ram and an 8 GB 5700XT Nitro plus card. 1440p medium settings and smooth 60 fps. This demo puts many developers full game to shame. It looks and runs good on my mediocre system.

Game runs like absolute butter on my 9800X3D/5090 rig. 4K/DLAA/Max Settings and maintaining 120fps through the opening scenes. No frame gen needed

runs super smoothly 1080p native dlss 4, looks incredibly sharp and clean
upwards of 90 fps with smooth frametimes
dualsense features fully work, adaptive triggers and haptics and all

optimization is quite impressive

reflex works great too, incredibly low latency

I wouldn't call this "incredibly sharp and clean", the image looks like it went through some kind of weird filter, it looks quite fuzzy, maybe because of DLSS? But I think DLSS is usually more clear than that. Some stuff looks very pixelated here. Also obviously not helped by chromatic aberration.

Dualsense wired or wireless?

For 1080p it looks nice. Also you can turn off chromatic aberration in settings.

are you on a 4K screen? it looks fine to me on a 1080p screen

here are some comparisons with chromatic aberration disabled. i've also provided sharpening disabled comparisons but since most people like sharpening, I figured that is what most people would use so I went with that to showcase (I play with sharpening disabled usually)

Gave it a whirl on Steam Deck. I have the original model, not the OLED.

- There was about half a second of shader compilation on startup.
- Comes with a 'Steam Deck' setting by default. Obviously isn't as nice looking as PC with textures and hair/meshes being the obvious downgrades. Some environment textures are pretty rough. Still looks generally good considering it's a weak handheld.
- Cinematics seem to be targeting 60fps with some occasional dips.
- Beach scene held at around 45-50fps. No spikes that would affect combat.
- First stage ran around 45-50fps for the most part. One big dip to the 30s when buildings were crumbling. I obviously couldn't stare at the fps counter constantly but I could feel fluctuation so some degree but nothing that noticeably affected combat.
- Story boss ran in the 40s when I spared a look.
- Challenge boss ran at 60fps.

The big open zones later in the game might be a concern but what was available runs well enough for a handheld experience. While I didn't die, I did have a harder time pulling off parries and dodges due to the smaller screen and lower framerate/fluctuations during the story part. I had no problem with the challenge boss due to constant 60fps.

I don't know, I think people forgot how clean 1080p can look under the right conditions. Older games with MSAA for example could look perfectly clean. Here there is a lot of weird pixelisation / fuzziness. It doesn't look clean. And about the chromatic aberration, I meant on that screenshot in particular, but I also noticed that turning it off doesn't seem to work anyway. I only briefly tried the demo though because I've been having some controller issues with the game.

No I'm on a 1080p screen too. The chromatic aberration is still present on both screenshots, I think the setting might just not be working lol or maybe not in specific scenes?...

i checked again, I'm sure that it was set to disabled. i guess it really does not work. sorry i didnt notice because i'm not sensitive to chromatic aberration

i understand what you mean, I was just comparing it to usual 1080p taa games I'm used to
msaa and no TAA games are another story of course

wired, sadly haptics don't work in wireless

It's Korean studio. Most of them worked on PC and mobile before consoles, so they tend to know their way around Windows better than Japanese devs.

there is definitely some lens distortion effect going on even with CA turn off in the setting.

meh unskippable cutscenes.. I had to just force close it after 10 mins. I can't stand that these days.
