Stock-Age: Stocks, Options and Dividends oh my!

Anyone have some recommendations on stocks under $10 right now? I put some money into Sirius XM which was probably dumb (speculative), but I've been surprised at some of the advancements of their technology and I think they are planning a big new revamp of their online presence.

Why do you want a stock that is specifically under $10?

Looks like solars want to resume up, some nice moves today

Apple's days are far from numbered, IMO. I doubt the Apple Watch will cause big waves since it's a supplementing accessory, but their upcoming foray into automobiles is definitely something to watch out for.

Or maybe it'll be the venture that finally does them in... heh. I definitely would not call a top here to AAPL but there are better value buys out there. I think it'll probably take a market top to finally bring it down (or maybe it'll be the canary in the coal mine) and then we'll enter the next bear market for a few years, whenever that comes.

So glad I bought AAL before it was AAL. Back up near it's all time high and it will be joining the S&P 500 Friday. Life is good gentlemen.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Fucking hate Forex now.

I gained like $1000 in a week, and lost it all in just one day (yesterday). EURUSD is so fucking crazy.

I withdrew my deposits. At least I have a $250 extra profit.

Big into Take Two now (waiting for 13.05.2015 > yearly earnings and q4 2014). Fiscal 2014 is already outside of the GTA release date but Rockstar 2014 imo saw a much more diversified lineup than often before, I think profits will be higher than expecations. Also there is still Borderlands Ps4 coming in Q4 2014 (ending 31. march) and I think this won't sell bad. Good Q4 and good 2014 results (with good I mean not extremly high but higher than expected) should give this a good boost before the presentation.

If not, well at least Take Two has some strong names and won't drop 50% over night. At least that's what I hope.

Also got a good entry point for Solar City yesterday.

Box on the other hand...that made me so nervous that I ate the 250 minus today. I guess it will rise sometime later, but for the next few weeks this is too much pressure for me.

Right now I'm looking from day to day and always take the money form a 3-8% rise (or 2 months in case of TTWO) to gain more experience. Works for me.

I'm wondering if I will still be so enthuastic about stock trading in a few weeks :D

I think we are entering weird times. So many things are happening; oil prices collapse, ME chaos expanding and also in North Africa, USD and Euro historical movements, Russia/Ukraine, China slow down, etc. etc. It's more uncertainty than I can remember in a long time if not ever.

Lest us not forget Nintendo going mobile. Dark times ahead.

Uncertainty is good. When there's none and your mom is calling to give you stock tips that is the signal to bail, lol

Up 30% today! I guess the news shook a lot of people in Japan cuz it didn't look like it traded on the Nikkei tonight.

What do you guys think about Tesla? Sell before the presentation tomorrow or go risky and wait for a 30$ spike, not sure in which direction.

Ok, I am looking to buy some stocks for the first time. I just want a very basic broker where I can just buy a few stocks on my own. Any recommendations on what I should use?

I've been messing with the Robinhood app if you have an Iphone. Its basic but trades are free if you're just looking to buy stocks.

i wanna start to get into investing before i turn 26. if i get a permanent job, i'll pay off my student loan and invest some money into stocks (or bonds, whichever).

will it be better to go into an advisor in a bank (most likely sell me on bank mutual funds) or will it be better to create my own portfolio?

i might just invest on stocks i have interest in, namely tech, biotech, some others.

also, what is the recommended starting out to invest? i am leaning towards long term as well.

If I had spare cash I would try to bottom fish on DDD (stop below todays low or add more for long term players). Same for TSLA

The Invest for Retirement thread in OT would be a good place to start for long term planning. Forget about the bank advisors.

It'll help if you've got at least 4 figures, but essentially there is no minimum depending on which broker you use. Better to consult with InvestGAF for a thorough breakdown.

With a few days to go until Apple Watch preorders open, I really am wondering if I should increase my holdings of AAPL in advance of this event or sit tight and wait. The other investors seem unsure too, Apple's stock has been pretty flat for the last month or so with no big moves one way or the other as everyone is waiting to see what happens on April 10th when Apple invents the watch and then on April 24th when Apple's new invention officially goes on sale.

In my experience, the stock hasn't usually traded up on product releases. It's all about earnings and rumors of new products. I will be increasing my position before earnings (4/27).

PS: I think this watch is going to be a HUGE success...

DDD, SSYS and others looking good.

And SNE $30! Called it from $15. The setup was there but it took a little longer than I expected.

I was looking at my portfolio, and the most amount of money Ive made has been on Carnival

.....which I only bought a few years ago because if you own 100+ shares, you get something like $200 room credit on your cruise

What a shitty day. How I hate it when you think about what to buy for days, buy it and then on the next day everything comes down. At least a month until it will get back to level of yesterday, damnit.

Thank you China for the rebound, and the Fri crash too.

It sounds insane, but I'm up like 183% YTD. Down 15% from Wed though.

I'm up 3.66% on the year according to Google Finance. I mean... if that rate keeps up for me it'd be a great year I'd say as we're only about 1/3rd of the way through.

I'm up 3.46% on my TFSA (tax free account). My main account has old dead weights like SSYS and DDD, so I'm down 7% on it. Haven't looked at my RRSP but it should be fine.

I'll be patient.

Talking about several years of salary kind of money. But I don't want to pretend I'm some ultra genius trader, these kinds of gains are new territory to me for sure. I'll say that luck and timing, with emphasis on the latter, is sooo key in investments.

Wow, congratz! What were your top positions/best deals?

Up 4%, started around February. Really lucky in the first few weeks and I thought this is so easy but was hit by reality in April. Still a lot to learn.

Damn, did you get into VLTC early or something? Great returns man

Biggest contributor was Sony. I kept buying on dips last year, then call options when they were cheap, like $0.30. I just closed some April ones last week for like $6.

I was pretty confident the $9 low was THE low, so if the trend is up now after 13 years of down, then why not keep buying? Lol. There was one point where if it dipped any lower I'd get out of my entire position the next day, but it held and went higher since.

Harley Davidson tanked nearly 10% today. I might buy it at the current price, I think I can sell it eventually at around 63 to make a 10 to 12% return.

ADBE might also be interesting at the current price.

I think I've asked this before, but I can't remember:

For my mortgage, I have the option to pay just the interest on my loan (and taxes/insurance obviously); I can choose to pay $0 principal. My interest rate is 3.75%. With the tax deductions, I calculate that it works out to effectively 2.8%.

How silly would it be to take the extra principal payments I'm making now and putting them in investments?

I'm not sure how it works, but do mortgage payments/non-payments count against your credit?

Not sure, but in my case they have no effect. My home loan is through my Grandpa's real estate investment company, which is why I have the option of not paying principal.
