Super basic question: should I be trying to link all my pokes into stuff, or only if I have an opening? For instance, ryu can link cr.MK into DP. However, it seems incredibly difficult to hit with CR.mk, confirm it connected, then input the DP, when this seems only possible by pressing CR.mk as I am doing the DP motion. Am I thinking about this incorrectly?

Links are not the same thing as cancels.

You cancel the cr.mk into the DP, so while the cr.mk is hitting, you should already be doing the DP motion.

You should do the max combo you can if you can confirm it, but if you're not confident that the button will hit first, it's okay to just get a bit of damage just by a few pokes here and there. It adds up.

It'd be better to cancel the cr.mk into Hadoken in most cases, since it's much safer at maximum distance, and if it hits it's still a decent amount of damage.

You can't really hit confirm off one hit normally (crush counters aside thanks to the enormous tell and hitstun, but even then you need to not be canceling into a special from the CC normal). You either want to cancel normals into specials that are safe on block, or when you are using the normal to punish something and need to immediately cancel into a special because you aren't at a range you can get a larger combo.

As a newbie myself, I feel like something like that is too fast to directly react to. You'd instead know your kick is going to connect before you even throw it out because of something your opponent did. If you don't know the outcome before you do it, you don't do something as risky as the DP followup.

I saw a Mika with some kind of neon green color and that made me want to suffer through Survival even more. I should at least try Normal for once.

Enjoying myself tonight...while the fam is asleep. I'll be online for another hour or so.

Come destroy my scrub Ryu and Chun Li

Has anyone else been losing points when the game fails to connect to the opponent? I just noticed I lost around 65 even though I never made it to the match... I keep getting close the next rank, and then the game always decides to screw me over with lag and crap like this. -_-

Ranking servers screwing up? Last 2 haven't been uploaded to server for me, fortunately they were losses, but feel bad for the 2 that beat me.

Done as in you give up or you finished it?

I assume its the first one :p

I beat hard with bison and necalli earlier. Had the crazy idea of beating it with cammy but after having ryu just block and tech a 100 percent of the time I just don't have the patience. Plus being kicked off the server every ten minutes isn't fun. I'll just wait for someone smarter to find some ai glitch.

First day using stick (in years) and first day using Karin. Beat Survival in Normal with her, so I feel somewhat productive today. I know better than to attempt to use her against humans online while I'm in a good mood tonight.

Yeah I saw a necalli with cool orange hair that made me try survival on hard like 4 times before deciding it wasn't worth it. It's so hard to go from brain dead jump ins 27 rounds in a row to a suddenly super reactive AI.

A good Fang is really fun to watch. Makes me wanna attempt him but I know better.

Yup. I played against one FANG who seemed to know what he was doing and I started finding the character way more attractive. He can dish out a surprising amount of damage when he gets going.

Nah, health should reset at full at the start of each round. That would be much more fair.

Then that wouldn't be much of a survival mode.

I can get to Necali and Bison just find with cammy.

getting to lvl 30 and just getting completely wrecked is ....demoralizing.

Okay, woke up, it's 7 in the morning, and I am at page 331 of this thread. Which means there's about 25 pages to read up on. I switched to Ryu for a little time, and finished watching the "Official Character Guide for Ryu", so I know his basics but yet my brain decides to freeze in an actual match. I got five casual online matches with him, lost them all, so I decided to share my fourth fight on my Youtube. I know I need to defend more, yet I think I'm getting better at this aspect, and need to be a little more patient. Please give feedback.

On another note, I just got my FIRST EVER WIN IN A STREET FIGHTER game ever. Any Street Fighter game. It was a casual online match, and I could see I were up against a super scrub but whatever, I take the win! And my first win at that. This time I were playing Charlie Nash, and I know I didn't use any meter in this match, but do you have any other feedback I can take with me? I shared that video on my Youtube here.

I can feel that I am not hitting the commands right sometimes. When I consistently do a light punch, it's because I'm trying to do a grab. If I'm punching downward, it's because I tried do a CA. And failed at both. Also, I think it'll help me, if I invest in a Fighting Commander 4, especially for those v-reversals.

Anyway, FIRST EVER WIN EVER!!!

Holy crap, I just thrashed a player ranked in the thousands! Either sleep depravation has turned me into a god, or that guy just let his little brother play.

You are mistaken. That command grab is scary. If you had watched the finals of the LI Joe tournament today you would have seen how dangerous it is for a character like Necalli to have a command grab.

I'm a bit ignorant in some matters, but an amazing player using it to success doesn't mean the move is good particulary. I'll surrender that Necalli is better off having it than not though. I'd like to see that match ._.

Finally got to play this today after pre-ordering, completely all the stories and did like 3 matches online with my ultra scrubby, no fundamental having Ken. Ken and Cammy are the two funnest character in this game to me.

Unless I'm missing something here, we cant select what character we wanna use online and it defaults to your preferred character? Also, I assume we cant buy shit until the store opens?

The fundamental gameplay is fucking rad though, no complaints from me.

Have you seen Floe play FANG? Now that's fun to watch.

There are two amazing players with Necalli now then.

One is tearing up East Coast Usa, the other is dominating in Europe

The character is good nonetheless, which is probably a good thing if Necalli is a boss character like I think,

Correct and correct. It's to reduce the load time w/ matches.

I can't offer any insight since I don't know jack about Nash and I'm a huge newbie too, so I'll just say congratulations! Pulling off a win as a newbie is amazingly satisfying hehe

So, after switching from Laura to Karin at about 500 LP (and watching some combo videos and practicing them), I jumped into ranked match... and lost to a super bronze.

:(

Then... I proceeded to win five in a row, mostly against players higher ranked than me, culminating in an epic fight with a pretty good Ken. The match ended with me Trigger comboing into a CA with a sliver of health in the third round.

Now at 850 LP. I know, still not a lot, but after bouncing around from 400-600 with Laura and other characters, I'm stoked! Things are finally starting click with this game, which sometimes is just finding that character that works for you.

Got to level 37 with Birdie in Hard Survival. Got rekt by Rashid rushdown. Fuck man, they should let you restart at the previous 10s milestone. Like checkpoints at 10, 20, etc. Maybe with a score penalty. Restarting all the way from the start is such a waste of time. Grrr.

That feeling when you use a medium health to get a better one next round, have a sliver and only get another medium.

28/30 rounds too :(

I'm too shit to beat a normal AI with half health as Cammy.

All these posts by new players getting better is super discouraging lol. I see what I'm doing wrong but I just can't get myself to fix issues in actual matches

Yeah. I know my opponent were super bad, can see it the way he plays, but so am I, and a win is a win. Hurray!!! :) It feels so good.

Today I'm gonna be in Street Fighter V all day, and I'm probably gonna play a lot of casual online matches to get the flow of such fights, to get used to playing human opponents, and to practice individual things of my game.

Spam Cr. MK - QCF HK, make sure you hit confirm MK or you're going to die. Get stun and go nuts.

Or Spin Knuckle, Standing HP, QCF HK.

Just got the game. Practically a total noon when it comes to fighting games. I played a few hours of vs. with my buddy and had a lot of fun and then did a casual match and won surprisingly. I haven't been learning combos at all though. Mostly trying to focus on basic moves, V trigger, and blocking, and not jumping at the moment lol. V reversals seem kinda hard to do unless you're actively thinking about the buttons you have to do. And I have no idea what the EX bar is or how to use it since the tutorial didn't mention it, nor the bar under your health.

Overall it's fun so far, and I really like the lack of gimmicky stuff I was getting tired of in Injustice, but the lack of content is real. Small roster, small amount of modes, and even a small amount of stages. Hopefully with all the criticisms there will be plenty of updates and it will be a Driveclub situation where they just go HAM on the content, as the core mechanics are clearly solid already.

My fighting ID is FancyClown, and PSN is Gray2 if anyone wants to wreck me some time.
