"I'll send you to meet your father, but the price is your very life." - Bison (victory over Chun-Li)

got me hopeful for the story mode coming up

The hell? So I'm basically locked into a character until I go to some menu? That's utterly idiotic. Anyway, thanks

It's not idiotic. Other games do something similar, where you choose your character before matchmaking takes place. Ideally, it cuts down on time between matches (no going to character/stage select before every fight) It also prevents counter picking.

In Battle Lounge, though, you can set it to go to the player select screen.

You know, I actually don't know as I haven't done anything but Ranked Match. But that's how it works for Ranked Match so I'm assuming that's the way it works everywhere.

I think Casual Match should have the traditional character select screen, though.

Oh, well nevermind then.

So is there anyway to update the status of your favorites? There's no way all these people are online, and I know for a fact some of them aren't.

Got my swagger back with this last session but fuck me, the netcode is in the toilet tonight.

Last 4 people I fought weren't bad at all, but their connections were. Teleporting everywhere...had both of us looking silly at times. 2 were reported 4 and 5 bars too :/

I feel like without Alex in the cast I just don't have the passion for any of the characters to be my main, and without that drive I lose so much it's starting to get frustrating.

I have NO CLUE how to open up people with Karin. I know the ins and outs and have done the research/gone to the lab, etc. There isn't anything I can't do with her including crouching jab, jab, QCF LK ->LP.

I just feel like in online matches no matter when I try a throw to mix up my strings it gets teched. I get teched more often in this game than in USF4 with option select throws... it's royally fucked.

Playing footsies with her is easy peesy, but when people will literally hit me once and sit on entire life leads the whole game it's frustrating as fuck.

The only character right now I am having even remote success with is Bison just due to his move set, priority, etc being rock solid enough that he CAN open people up.

I think the favorites system is just occasionally busted. I remember a few of mine just vanishing. When I attempted to search for their Fighter ID the game told they didn't exist despite me adding them the day before.

Yeah that's what I'm going with right now. I'm just disappointed that I barely beat normal and all of the colors in that are pretty terrible.
Yeah I felt the same way. I'll probably just buy colors so I don't have to face Survival. I'm falling for their evil plans:(

The servers are melting already, can you imagine if they actually refreshed favorites? :)

Online actually worked halfway decently for me during the week. It's completely borked right now for me.

I messed about today trying hell and hard mode survivals.

It's really unenjoyable, and I became stressed out as everything I'd learnt online, seemed to be a mere RNG factor against the AI. Why bother with mixups, frametraps and pokes, when it's mere RNG if they get hit by it or not?

It's frustrating to see that goofy, stupid strategies are actually better than everything you've learnt against human players. Though of course, that's not uncommon for fighting games, but it's hard to even call them AI when they are just flowcharts with an RNG factor.

The furthest I got was round 37 or hard. I'll give it another go tomorrow, I guess.

Fucking servers. Finally get time to log in today and getting 21004 errors on the east coast. Meh. I'll just play something else. I hope they get this fixed soon.

I have no idea how Fuudo is managing to convert those forward s.mp that catch the chun-li's pokes into the wallbounce move. No way it's on reaction?

They could have been using WiFi.

Karin seems to have just about every tool except a good anti-air. You didn't give specifics to what you've tried but here's a few tips:

Your opponents are naturally going to fear you dashing in with a cr. MK and canceling into her QCB kicks. So you'll get a lot of people crouching instinctively when close. I occasionally throw out cr. MK xx QCB + LP to nail them with the overhead. This works occasionally but it is risky because the recovery is huge, even moreso than the other versions of that. However, the reward can be huge as you can cancel the overhead into Critical Art.

You should mix up that overhead with a throw. Her cross up j. MK is also good but better players will just walk forward when they see you jumping in.

Also, you can try just playing like your opponent. Karin's MK is a fantastic poke. If you can get the life lead you can sit on it just like they were.

The idea is that you would only fight these matches with your main or alt, the lobbies (battle lounge) allow character select.

I see

I still think it's really dumb since blind selecting is a thing, but at least there's options in other modes

Virtua Fighter does the the pick the fighter first thing also irrc. And that loaded fast.

If sfv didnt have molasses loading times. It would be sweet. Sometimes i do wish i could swap colors without going back to battle settings.

I think people who play Ranked probably play as their mains most of the time, especially because you can't see what your opponent is picking to counterpick them.

The only people I see this really bothering is Gootecks and Mike Ross when they do Excellent Adventures.

Can anyone please tell me how he's doing this off-the-wall crossup? I physically cannot figure out the inputs.

Holding diagonally down and towards opponent, and pressing MK just after he leaves the wall. Walljump, j.mk, s.mp, cr.mk xx spinning mixer. He's using spinning mixer here as it allows him to keep up the pressure.

It's a bit gimmicky though since with matchup knowledge there's no reason your opponent should get hit by it. It's not a 50/50, if you touch the wall (going for a walljump) you can only hit on the pretty predictable arc or jump away.
