Won a few casual matches (I'm still terrible) so I tried ranked for the first time. Got destroyed three times in a row quite convincingly. The difference in skill from casual to ranked is steep. Anyways, I felt bad because after I lost one of the matches an error code came up at the results screen and I think it seemed like I rage quit. Hope the person realized it wasn't a rage quit because I had no points and nothing to lose.

All I'm trying to say is that some of these people may not be rage quitters and I hope it restores a bit of your faith in humanity.

Look at this thread. They probably thought that you rage quit and will post your fighterid. Heh.

I won the first round and second was going ok. Then the opponent misses his CA and just leaves the game. Sucks to have these kind of people playing.

I only have 66.050 FM but it's not that important to me at the moment. I just want to have enough for Juri in Season 1 and eventually Sean in Season 2. Besides that, I could see myself getting Alex as my first DLC character, and if I have too much FM, I'll get Ibuki.

Man this ranking system is discouraging just like usfiv, I love both games and played sf4 thousands of hours online but rarely ranked, because losing in these games make me super angrey. Never had issues with MK, guilty gear or marvel. I just hate that point system... win get 25-50 points, lose and lose 80+. Shit gets me too discouraged to play ranked in a sf game serious. Wish the points was hidden.

Starting to get a good mix of opponents and finally started to match up with only 4-5 bar people..just had a Bison from China(Or atleast his flag was), shit was a slideshow.

On the bright side, 564LP! Finally moved beyond Rookie, now I can get my arse kicked and bounce back and forth between Rookie/Bronze for a week before I find my feet again.

Congrats on the first win. I'd say the biggest thing you need to work on is combos and better spacing. You had plenty of chances for good damage when hitting with st.lp you can target combos into st.mp and go into medium or heavy scythe and even EX if you have the meter to spend. Be careful of using his moonsault raw as most players would punish you for doing it that far out. Try using his medium scythe from max range to get some chip. He also has some other gooday normal attacks that can be safe when used properly in right situations. I like how you were consciously using your v skill on him but try and incorporate his v trigger into your attack as it is very useful. His heavy punch is very useful too for crush counters which can lead to big damage. Forward + HP has a lot of range and if successfully used you can do heavy assault after crush counter for good damage and meter steal.

Also be careful on using raw heavy attacks that close to your opponent they are very negative on block and usually easy to see coming. If you are that close try mixing in throws to keep your opponent guessing if you are going to throw or hit then. Other than that you will get the hang of things with more experience and practice. Just try and be more calm when playing as I am sure you are pressing buttons a lot which is what I gather from the amount of jabs I see being thrown out.

Okay, I have to ask. What does it mean when you say "target combos into"? And I'm not good with the light attacks, I feel like I have to stand really close to my opponent to get a hit but it's definitely something I need to practice, and as you say combo off of.

I'm actually not pressing buttons a lot. All of the jabs were me trying to pull off a Critical Art, because I haven't been able to do those consistently during matches (edit: Just rewatched my video, and yeah, I'm also jabbing when I tried pulling off grabs). I don't know if it have to do with my dpad on the DS4 as well? Because too many times, I either press the f+p at the same time, or a down, down-right or right (depending on side) doesn't register.

Some very good and a lot of tips from you. I very much appreciate it. I definitely should try practicing some combos. I really have a hard time following up on a hit, so if I hit somebody, I'm not sure what to do next.

So after f+hp, I do crush counter and then heavy assault? Do heavy assault steal meter, like tragedy assault does?

And can someone explain to me what a crush counter is again, I haven't had it written down in my document for some reason.

Be careful of using his moonsault raw as most players would punish you for doing it that far out.
Yeah. This one I know about. It's super unsafe and can easily be punished. I have to do some matches next week, where I tell myself I can't do the moonsault in any of my matches.

tonight is the first night I have experienced lag. I went on a losing streak against a bunch of shitty Ken's. It's fine because I'm shitty too but the lag was really messing up my blocking against endless dps. The games were all super close 3 game matches. Damn this game and it's addictive nature, I couldn't go to bed until I won a match.
Was finding matches super quick, though.

Yep, just had another match right now that was so laggy I had to abuse Ryu's Solar Plexus in order to get out of there. I'm done for the night.

I really need to get me an arcade stick.. I'm dropping combos because of the poor dpad in the ds4..

It totally sounds like an excuse, but I too am feeling like the dpad is failing me during Critical Arts. I can do it consistently in training, but far too many times I miss it.

It's great that matchmaking is working but is it taking everyone else almost a minute to load anything, or is that just me?

Is matchmaking really working though? I am a bronze. I fought 6 silvers over 10 matches with a couple ultra bronze - got destroyed by all of them.

it wouldn't be so bad if the LP economy wasnt so fucked. I hate being knocked back down the ladder. Either Capcom needs to fix their shit or I need to get gud. :)

The game is a blast though - it is encroaching on 3rd Strike, my favorite sf of all time.

I feel you.. It's not optimal for extended periods of play.. Still on the fence about the TE2+ stick.. Hard to justify shelling out $249 for a specific game genre, but I don't want to get cheap options that I know will break faster than it costs.

I bought a HRAP3 back in the day and almost didn't use it, because I couldn't get used to an arcade stick. So if you are gonna spend money on your first arcade stick, get something cheaper. Maybe the Hori Mini 4? Because it might not be for you either, or you might come to like it, and then you can upgrade.

I just use the analog stick for any QC moves, far more consistent for me.
I can't do analogue stick in fighting games for the life of me. It doesn't feel good to me.

fucking around with stuff, I either just found the stupidest of "fixes" to faster match making, or its just a placebo effect (most likely)

I just switched the confirmation from "automatic" to "ask" and just ranked, instead of ranked and casual, and I got 3 requests in the span of minutes (which as you know, I dont get). I then swtiched to Ranked and Casual, still with "ask" in confirmation, and I got nothing for a few minutes.

I switched back to just ranked, and just got 2 more requests (im not actually accepting anything so apologies if you are affected by my mad science).

Has anyone tried either of these things, especially the confirmation to ask instead of automatic. Going to try again later when I can actually play, now I need some sleep cause im off a graveayrd shfift

edit: tried just casual/ask instead of ranked and not getting anything. going to switch back to ranked

edit: nothing popping up now even on ranked, probably was just placebo and that string of requests was just lucky lol. Thats what I get for not accepting them, now I jinxed it! Oh well, need sleep, will try method again later

edit: wait ranked just popped again, right as I was going to exit the game. Thats 6 ranked requests in the span of 10-15minutes. Thats sure better than 1 every 45minutes. SCIENCE!

I've played many a fighting game, but never been serious about them (never learnt combos or frame data or anything). I'd like to try and get more serious with this. What do people recommend in terms of picking a character?

1. Just pick a character and practice with them over and over (e.g. I have played a few matches with Chun Li because I played as her back in SF2 or something) causing me to improve but Chun Li might not suit me most...

2. Play games as every character to see who fits me best, but obviously risk losing many games whilst doing it? I know that an added benefit to this is understanding playing a character helps combat them.

How do you guys go about choosing a character?

Give every character a go in training mode and see if anyone resonates with you. Otherwise pick a a character that's closest to the style of play you prefer. At least that's what I think.

How is the Fighting Commander 4 dpad compared to the Dual Shock 4 dpad?

It's pretty solid. I actually have been using it to play Necalli the past couple days instead of my Hitbox. It's a little hard for my tastes but very responsive. I definitely prefer it to the DS4, especially since you get 6 face buttons and L3/R3 as left side triggers.

The main reason I would get a FC4 would be the six face buttons, but I really just want the dpad to be more responsive and better than the DS4 dpad.

Just matched up to the same person 5 times in a row in ranked, it's not even a great connection (even though I'm searching 5 only) and I lost all 5 times.

Not a great system, but damn I need to learn how to fight Karin - she seems to have such little recovery on every move.

That's the settings I've been using, didn't have too many problems except it taking way too long to get back into training mode/main menu.

I also feel like it takes longer and longer the more you've been playing.

One of the first things I do when learning a character is learning how to punish unsafe stuff. Go into training mode and set Karin as your opponent, record her doing a move (and blocking right after it) you have trouble punishing and try to find various ways to punish.

Alternatively you can deduce viable punishes from frame data but there are times when range/space can make a mathematically unsafe move safe, it'll just take some practice.

I'm gonna do this, Karin seems pretty cool. A shame I can't just choose to play online from the training with her without setting that in my profile (or so it seems?)

A Dhal that uses a fireball then teleports behind you before it hits can really fuck you up. What can you do when you are gonna get hit from both directions?

You have to pick beforehand which character you want to play as online. You can use battle lounges which have character select on but lounges seem to be a bit messed up right now.

I find myself trying to do the same thing over and over again. My game has gotten very one-dimensional. Weird that it worked two days ago (reached 1000 LP pretty comfortably) but hasn't since then (~500 LP now).

You probably started playing against opponents who figured you out or recognized your patterns. You need to keep switching things up which requires practice.

Ugh so salty right now. Did 11 matches and lost every single one and I didn't even win a single round. Thank god I wasn't playing ranked.
