Just got completely bodied by a Nash online, was near untouchable
Blocked everything, knew what I was gonna do before I did.

Won a few casual matches (I'm still terrible) so I tried ranked for the first time. Got destroyed three times in a row quite convincingly. The difference in skill from casual to ranked is steep. Anyways, I felt bad because after I lost one of the matches an error code came up at the results screen and I think it seemed like I rage quit. Hope the person realized it wasn't a rage quit because I had no points and nothing to lose.
All I'm trying to say is that some of these people may not be rage quitters and I hope it restores a bit of your faith in humanity.

I won the first round and second was going ok. Then the opponent misses his CA and just leaves the game. Sucks to have these kind of people playing.

Congrats on the first win. I'd say the biggest thing you need to work on is combos and better spacing. You had plenty of chances for good damage when hitting with st.lp you can target combos into st.mp and go into medium or heavy scythe and even EX if you have the meter to spend. Be careful of using his moonsault raw as most players would punish you for doing it that far out. Try using his medium scythe from max range to get some chip. He also has some other gooday normal attacks that can be safe when used properly in right situations. I like how you were consciously using your v skill on him but try and incorporate his v trigger into your attack as it is very useful. His heavy punch is very useful too for crush counters which can lead to big damage. Forward + HP has a lot of range and if successfully used you can do heavy assault after crush counter for good damage and meter steal.
Also be careful on using raw heavy attacks that close to your opponent they are very negative on block and usually easy to see coming. If you are that close try mixing in throws to keep your opponent guessing if you are going to throw or hit then. Other than that you will get the hang of things with more experience and practice. Just try and be more calm when playing as I am sure you are pressing buttons a lot which is what I gather from the amount of jabs I see being thrown out.
Yeah. This one I know about. It's super unsafe and can easily be punished. I have to do some matches next week, where I tell myself I can't do the moonsault in any of my matches.Be careful of using his moonsault raw as most players would punish you for doing it that far out.
tonight is the first night I have experienced lag. I went on a losing streak against a bunch of shitty Ken's. It's fine because I'm shitty too but the lag was really messing up my blocking against endless dps. The games were all super close 3 game matches. Damn this game and it's addictive nature, I couldn't go to bed until I won a match.
Was finding matches super quick, though.
I really need to get me an arcade stick.. I'm dropping combos because of the poor dpad in the ds4..
It's great that matchmaking is working but is it taking everyone else almost a minute to load anything, or is that just me?
It totally sounds like an excuse, but I too am feeling like the dpad is failing me during Critical Arts. I can do it consistently in training, but far too many times I miss it.

I bought a HRAP3 back in the day and almost didn't use it, because I couldn't get used to an arcade stick. So if you are gonna spend money on your first arcade stick, get something cheaper. Maybe the Hori Mini 4? Because it might not be for you either, or you might come to like it, and then you can upgrade.I feel you.. It's not optimal for extended periods of play.. Still on the fence about the TE2+ stick.. Hard to justify shelling out $249 for a specific game genre, but I don't want to get cheap options that I know will break faster than it costs.
I can't do analogue stick in fighting games for the life of me. It doesn't feel good to me.I just use the analog stick for any QC moves, far more consistent for me.

I've played many a fighting game, but never been serious about them (never learnt combos or frame data or anything). I'd like to try and get more serious with this. What do people recommend in terms of picking a character?
1. Just pick a character and practice with them over and over (e.g. I have played a few matches with Chun Li because I played as her back in SF2 or something) causing me to improve but Chun Li might not suit me most...
2. Play games as every character to see who fits me best, but obviously risk losing many games whilst doing it? I know that an added benefit to this is understanding playing a character helps combat them.
How do you guys go about choosing a character?
How is the Fighting Commander 4 dpad compared to the Dual Shock 4 dpad?
It's pretty solid. I actually have been using it to play Necalli the past couple days instead of my Hitbox. It's a little hard for my tastes but very responsive. I definitely prefer it to the DS4, especially since you get 6 face buttons and L3/R3 as left side triggers.
That's the settings I've been using, didn't have too many problems except it taking way too long to get back into training mode/main menu.fucking around with stuff, I either just found the stupidest of "fixes" to faster match making, or its just a placebo effect (most likely)
I just switched the confirmation from "automatic" to "ask" and just ranked, instead of ranked and casual, and I got 3 requests in the span of minutes (which as you know, I dont get). I then swtiched to Ranked and Casual, still with "ask" in confirmation, and I got nothing for a few minutes.
I switched back to just ranked, and just got 2 more requests (im not actually accepting anything so apologies if you are affected by my mad science).
Has anyone tried either of these things, especially the confirmation to ask instead of automatic. Going to try again later when I can actually play, now I need some sleep cause im off a graveayrd shfift
edit: tried just casual/ask instead of ranked and not getting anything. going to switch back to ranked
edit: nothing popping up now even on ranked, probably was just placebo and that string of requests was just lucky lol. Thats what I get for not accepting them, now I jinxed it! Oh well, need sleep, will try method again later
edit: wait ranked just popped again, right as I was going to exit the game. Thats 6 ranked requests in the span of 10-15minutes. Thats sure better than 1 every 45minutes. SCIENCE!

Just matched up to the same person 5 times in a row in ranked, it's not even a great connection (even though I'm searching 5 only) and I lost all 5 times.
Not a great system, but damn I need to learn how to fight Karin - she seems to have such little recovery on every move.
Fought someone today who's name was "IHateGief"
As a Gief player who's name is Giefstew, I lol'd and beat him
Give every character a go in training mode and see if anyone resonates with you. Otherwise pick a a character that's closest to the style of play you prefer. At least that's what I think.
You have to pick beforehand which character you want to play as online. You can use battle lounges which have character select on but lounges seem to be a bit messed up right now.I'm gonna do this, Karin seems pretty cool. A shame I can't just choose to play online from the training with her without setting that in my profile (or so it seems?)
You probably started playing against opponents who figured you out or recognized your patterns. You need to keep switching things up which requires practice.I find myself trying to do the same thing over and over again. My game has gotten very one-dimensional. Weird that it worked two days ago (reached 1000 LP pretty comfortably) but hasn't since then (~500 LP now).
