Street Fighter V |OTVIII| New Delayed Generation - Controversial Inputs

That's the weird thing - NB said they wanted to keep console owners in mind with GV. So they knew shit had to be on the same screen - they made accommodations for other games. And then they said they wanted to hop in the esports market.

But yeah, arena fighters pretty much need the support of the developers constantly at these tournaments, and I don't see that happening. Shame, as I plan to keep supporting GV as much as possible.

As for SFV announcements, there's either going to be one at CEO or on Tuesday. I think the latter is more likely, as Capcom hasn't said anything prior to this weekend. And since they just announced the costumes, a blog post will probably be coming soon, and that'll have the NEXT CHARACTER ANNOUNCEMENT IS COMING NEXT WEEK/SOMETIME THIS WEEK/WHENEVER WE FEEL LIKE IT wordplay that it usually has.

Vulva, you are better than you think. I didn't go to my locals for a while and ended up getting a bunch of games off some Plat level dudes and I'm a Sliver scrub. The online arena is far different than offline.

I was about to stop watching DBZ and then Goku slipped and put the gravity on 100g and I was like OH SHIT HOW STRONG IS HE GOING TO BE!

I think I'm caught in the 50/50 now.

I find it kinda hard to believe, but I think the current SFV is the first SF I'm starting to dislike. Even SFIV was less frustrating and at least had Sagat.
Capcom has a horrible track record with keeping Sagat balanced so I'm fine with one less character with a hadouken and shoryuken on top of a consistently stupid-good roundhouse. :p

Do you think it's a combination of nerves and playing for something? Or the lack of lag meaning there's a better chance all around?

nerves, easier to punish sloppy play, more time to think inbetween rounds, many people play more respectfully offline and you are less likely to deal with any type of lag.

I'm going to do so bad this evo. First time not having an offline scene to play with in a year now. I'm just some trash online scrub now.

I've been fortunate enough to go to my first evo thanks to a very kind person in my scene. You'll do fine.

My playlist cycled onto the EX soundtracks, and man would I have loved for the Air Force Base stage to have Guile's EX 3 theme. We literally have two SF2 Guile themes in SFV, would've been nice to have this gem (0:58 is perfect as the Round 2 transition).

Would also preferred they used Dhalsim's best theme ever, also from EX. Capcom needs to get the copyright stuff sorted out, there's some good material hidden in those games.

That makes sense.

I'm really looking forward to CEO tomorrow. I'll be running the bracket for one of the first wave pools and then playing on Saturday. Already been around the venue with everything being set up; people are already showing up and flooding the Wawas and Popeyes.

I gotta cash my check and run an errand but you better believe I'm gonna be playing at home and following the tourney.

When do the pools start?

Thanks for the kind words guys, honestly I wasn't fishing for re-assurance or anything. I was mostly just bitching about how since (as ironic as it sounds) moving to LA I've lost the ability to play locals. WNF is basically impossible for me to get to and there aren't any locals that are relatively close by for me. Trust me, I've looked too.

I miss Toronto.

That's pretty cool. What's your name in the bracket? No worries if you want to keep that quiet though lol. Good luck with everything!

All of that. I feel like when I play online I get too scared and drop stuff. But when I'm playing against people beside me it's a lot more relaxed, even when it's a tournament. I still froze up a bit and lost recently in Losers, but I felt pretty good after I walked away.

Even more to the point, people are there to help me out as soon as the match ends. I was able to level up my Bison pretty quickly that day alone even if I don't use him that much.

What sucks is that I feel like for most fighting games, a local scene makes the game ten times more enjoyable. But not everyone has a local scene to play in.

CFN stats for May are up for real this time. No real change since last month, in terms of character usage, but F.A.N.G did see a small up-tick:

It will always be baffling to me how Ryu is played considerably more than Ken.

KEN HAS THE SAME STUFF RYU HAS, ONLY HE's ON FIRE which makes him automatically better. FISTS OF FIRE, KICKS OF FIRE. Plus you can go ham, dude RUNS at you.

I'd have the same reaction if I found out more people played Ky than Sol in Guilty Gear.
Is KI still active in terms of tournaments any player base? It looked fun as hell in that first KI video those 2 did.
The game's active playerbase has certainly started to dwindle since season 3. A lot of the oldguard just don't like the direction they're taking with the balancing, along with the fact that the lower budget is leading to bugs not being fixed and content being delivered that is just not of the same caliber.

That all being said, it's still healthy and if you live in the US/EU you'll have ZERO problems finding people to play with. It also helps tremendously that the netcode is so damn solid that you can legitimately get good at KI by just playing online. And there have been instances of almost exclusively online players showing up at tournaments and delivering amazing results.

It's because Ken is a giant douchebag, no offense to Ken players. Ken's basically an earnest chihuahua. Like, calm the fuck down, son. And also ice blue Ryu in Hyper Fighting. So good.

"Hey I am new to fighting games. Who should I play?"
"Ryu"

And he is on the cover too.

The best character to learn Street Fighter V with right now is Necalli. Ryu is way too much of a struggle and way too honest. At least in S1 he had the ungodly damage to balance it out.

I don't think the whole new to fighting games thing matters too much, but you are right in that Ryu is the face of SF.

I was told to pick Ryu so I did that and I bet people still give that advice. Most of the beginner guides are written/recorded during the launch of SFV anyways so no S2 nerfs taken into account. Does it matter that much though? Maybe not but I still think it affects it to some degree.

If people choose characters based on the character's personality, then Ryu over Ken makes plenty of sense to me. Ken is a really stupid character and I have to wonder if that's why his costumes are all stupid too. Ryu also has a normal face and great costumes.

For play style I agree with lucebuce. Ken is better than Ryu in every way. He's for the player who wants to hit buttons, not not hit buttons. I am a player who wants to HIT BUTON ALL DAY.

I will say that in S1 Ryu was one of my toughest matchups and his calm, defensive style combined with massive damage output put me on tilt. Now with the nerfs and my general increase in skill over the last year I pretty much always beat Ryus.

S1 Ryu was a walking, talking migraine of a character in season 1. Dude was way too strong for the most used character in the game. Say what you will about season 2, but it did improve character diversity at the very least.

I just want to get him out of the way, so that we can get to the real Menat and potatoes of S2.

However, I am not excluding the possibility of Abigial being hype.
Capcom has done a really good job so far, this season.
