I'm only going to list the shows that I plan to check out next season. This list is not ranked. This list does not indicate which shows I will watch every episode of. This list does not contain any cryptic messages about future Wall Street gyrations.

I plan to at least examine the first episode of:

Magi
Zetsuen no Tempest
From the New World
Psycho-Pass
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
KyoAni Crazy Girl Show

I look forward to seeing how well all these A1 shows end up turning out.

I just have to post this. It's too funny not to: http://sankei.jp.msn.com/west/west_affairs/news/120826/waf12082618320011-n1.htm

Background info: Masaki Kitamura is one of the assistant directors of Gundam 00, he has worked on a bunch of Sunrise shit over the years. He is 42 years old.

Today Masaki Kitamura was arrested for causing obstruction of business operations (public disturbance? I don't know the actual Japanese law...) due to an online post he made at the end of July.

He is alleged to have gone on the Osaka City's official homage on July 29, and posted a mass murder threat in one of the consultation forum topics. The threat claimed that the following Sunday on Aug 5, there would be a mass murder event at the Nihonbashi area in Osaka, where a person would drive a truck into the crowd, and then proceed to knife people to death before committing suicide. This is very much a replica of the shocking Akihabara mass murder incident from years back.

Because of this threat, several businesses were disrupted as the police investigated the claims and beefed up the security in the area substantially on that Sunday. After nothing happened, they proceeded to investigate which dumbass made that post, and they traced it down to Kitamura. He was arrested today, and he claims he has no memory whatsoever of making any such post. He is denying any wrongdoing whatsoever. Lolz.

I will be soon done with season one of Space Battleship Yamato. It has been ok show, not sure if I will watch the other seasons. I was expecting show to be more closer to Star Trek. Yamato's crew visiting different planets and facing all kinds of foes but instead it was battle after battle with the blue dudes. There has been also very little character development in the show, you could even say there has been no character development at all. It's hard to care for the crew when they don't have any personalities, except for Koda (and he is kind of jerk)i. Are the other seasons any good? I will either go with season two or start watching Captain Harlock.

Watched more Nichijou tonight. Poor Yukko is being abused by her mother and all of Mio's desserts are ruined by her sister ;~;

I don't think they've shown Mai's family at all. I wonder what they are like...

Little Busters! - I think I may have admitted before in this thread that I loved Air - not so much for the melodrama of its story, but I thought it was beautiful to look at. I've really disliked what I've seen of all the other Key anime but I keep hoping that one of them will measure up. I know Little Busters won't be that show, but I'll give it a try just in case.
Umm, I hate to the bearer of bad news but J.C.Staff will be the ones doing the adaptation of Little Busters this time around and not KyoAni, which were the ones responsible for Air. On the bright side, at least this one won't look as awful as P.A.Works... um, "highest keyframe average ever" effort known as Angel Beats!

ROFLMAO! This keeps getting better. Apparently the police are also investigating Kitamura under the suspicion that he was behind another fake threat made on Aug 1st regarding a bomb on a Japanese aircraft leaving for New York. Is this what happens when you work at Sunrise for too long? :(
The shitty working conditions will do that to someone. If anything it's rather surprising this doesn't happen more often.

I suspect very few people in this thread are aware that the long-forgotten film adaptation of the Hell's Angels manga - which always looked pretty cool and was animated by Madhouse - was finally released on Bluray in Japan earlier this month. I don't know whether it had any festival screenings in the West, but the Bluray has English subtitles, which is nice. I've not seen the film but I know that there's always been a lot of buzz around it from an animation perspective and I was very surprised to discover it was getting released at all as I actually thought the film had never been completed! You can see the first 10 minutes or so (untranslated) here, for reference.

I almost bought it purely on Duckroll hype, but it never quite made it into my shopping cart - I've been very lackadaisical about ordering Japanese disks recently, mainly because I've been so slow in watching stuff as of late. Can't really complain due to the amount of money it's been saving me - got to fund those London and Scotland trips somehow!

I kind of fear that the kind of people outside of Japan who are the type to appreciate this kind of work are also those who're more sensible than to pay Japanese prices (even at the lower rates presented here) for these things, though - I think most the other importers I know tend to be a bit closer to the Japanese "database animal"-type when it comes to their purchasing habits, at least import-wise. Hell's was never likely to do particularly well, unfortunately.

Ah, to heck with it, I've got an import order due to ship this week anyway...

(CDJapan says - people who bought this product also bought Heartcatch Precure. Good taste, I guess?)

I didn't even know Hell's Angel existed until approximately two hours ago. Next time I'm in the city I'm going to buy the ever loving shit out of though. Looks really cool.

Part II

Haitai Nanafa - N/A
Jormugand 2 - Series 2 of a show I didn't watch.
Code:Breaker - Colons this time. Overdone concept.
Hiiro no Kakera S2 - Another second series of a show I didn't watch.
JoJo's Bizarre Aventure - To quote Jeremy Clarkson, "This could be the best show... in ZU WARUDO!"
Litchi☆Hikari Club - The illustration looks interesting even if it is pushing the boundaries of what is a male face.
Title TBA - TBA TBA TBA TBA
Initial D - Fifth series of a show I haven't watched though I suppose it's not that hard to jump into a show about street racing.
Shin Sekai Yori - Mite b cool.
Bakuman. 3 - Usually spiel about not having watched the previous series...
Oshiri Kajiri Mashi - Ah. The token five minute gag show. Since it is clearly aimed at kids the humour will probably be even more juvenile than usual.
Girls und Panzer - I wonder if this will tank in the sales charts. Ho ho ho. I'll be here all week.
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo - I sometimes look at these images I wonder if the person described in the blurb is the same as those in the illustration. Because one clearly says 'he' and the other 'she'.
K - I had a bowl of Special K once. That's about as much as I can go on with this one.
Kyousogiga 2 - The first was a one off right? Suppose I could easily watch that before the new season starts to see if the second helping is worth watching.

Gintama 79

This episode shows the struggle everyone has when they realize there is no more toilet paper.
Before when i had toilet paper trouble this was just a problem now that episode of gintama is in my mind and i'm reminded of how happy i am to not have to fight for such ressources.

Sword Art Online 8

I loved the first half of the episode. The chemistry between Kirito and Asuna was great as always.

5. Bingo: the reason that Asuna is so dedicated to cooking is because it's her connection to the real world.

The second half of the episode, however, was a damn travesty. The boob grab amused me because of how many times it showed him squeezing that tit, but the escort dude was cringeworthy as fuck, the duel was awkward, and Kirito going full white knight was only impressive in its willingness to slight Asuna's agency and how blatant the Gary Stu wanking was.
Indeed asuna loves to cook ..and if it wasn't that honey/cream in ep2 , she wouldn't have gone crazy on the cooking skill.

Too bad we didn't get an explanation on how kirito broke the sword ( the dude stance was so easy to read , kirito guessed correctly his skill and the kind of sword it was )
And even if he were wrong ..his AGI stat is so high that it wouldn't have matterred anyway

The shitty working conditions will do that to someone. If anything it's rather surprising this doesn't happen more often.
This might be because i've watched GITS recently ..but couldn't someone have put a proxy/worm and used his computer/cellphone to do bad things ?

Funny thing is, because of the order in which they've adapted the stories, the fight scene now rather suggests that Kirito won purely because he has his Magical Dragon Dung Sword of Sword Breaking. Which I gather isn't how it's put forth in the original work.

So you're suggesting that the only reason he has his current sword is because he knew in advance he was going to be targeted by a member of whatever-that-guild-was and prepared a suitable countermeasure in advance?

Mind BLOWN!

Kirito is always prepared. We know this because in every episode, he always has points in all sorts of random weird skills which he just happens to need at key moments!

But he's the goddamn Batman.

He is .. just like batman , if prepared enough , he can survive ..look at the ep! he was alone in the freaking hard dongeon and his Hp was still over 80% "when he had enough".
During lisbeth ep, it was kirito that gave her the fire ( it's s a special fire that prevent monster to come close . It works on anything except bosses ) and the bag to sleep too

With Prep time , kirito can do pretty much anything ..the things he can't.asuna can do .

Funny thing is, because of the order in which they've adapted the stories, the fight scene now rather suggests that Kirito won purely because he has his Magical Dragon Dung Sword of Sword Breaking. Which I gather isn't how it's put forth in the original work.

No it's not . Kirito like heavy swords and given the dude stance , he knew that the durability of his word will be very likely to be far above his opponent. Even if it wasn't . The swords would have clashed and he would have used another skill in a combo. the dude had no chance at all .
He could have just go for the cut but this method showcased the difference in skill between the two greater.

So you're suggesting that the only reason he has his current sword is because he knew in advance he was going to be targeted by a member of whatever-that-guild-was and prepared a suitable countermeasure in advance?
Mind BLOWN!
Well there are still Pkers in the game and people like that guy who hates beaters with a passion.

If I were in SAO I'd make sure my tea making skills were at maximum
They are part of the cooking skill ( making tea ). the sheer amoun of time you have to cook to reach master status is quite high It took asuna 2 years to reach master cooking..(this isn't the only skill she has in master but still )

There is nothing wrong with that, in fact, I'm pretty much incapable of watching shows concurrently.
Also, Space Brothers is the only anime where I manage to stay focused for 20 minutes.
Don't know why, but I have a hard time doing this for other animes, no matter how good they are.
I usually pause the thing, do something else, and then come back to it. It's not that I'm bored... I don't know. That's weird. Might be the reason why I don't watch many animes. (I'm more of a manga guy anyway)

Zetsuen no Tempest site update: http://www.zetsuen.net/

- The show will start on Oct 4
- The OP is called "Spirit Inspiration"
- The ED is called "happy endings" (this almost certainly confirms Hanazawa is Aika)

New PV with the OP theme and more animation (including ACTION!): http://www.zetsuen.net/special.html

Didnt know there was special abilities and such in this, even better. Both Mahiro and Yoshino were good in their moments. Oh and the OP sounds good.

The fuck? "Chose"?

Eureka Seven: I don't know, it just seemed awkward to add in and engage in that type of activity considering these are wartimes. She couldnt wait until things calmed down considering it would decrease combat capabilities?

Why Battle Shounen is an awesome genre
Since these works are generally aimed at pre-teen/teenage boys, the rule of cool might play a part in determining a character's design, abilities, and sometimes even personality.

The really only rule that matters for me I guess, well and friendship, I mean a good story in shounen needs the power of friendship in it, or else I couldnt careless for the characters or their motivations for vain tasks as just proving to others they are the strongest around or they love fighting for the sake of fighting (ugh). Ultimately I think Im guided by things that arent variety or escalation, as long as the end result and journey is cool it could still be a blast. I do hate when they throw in characters losing though, thats not cool at all and awful storytelling.

Poor variety is generally just using the same attack over and over again with the same result. Interestingly enough, something like Fairy Tail is both good and bad at this. With the main character Natsu, his moves are all fairy similar and remain so throughout what we've seen. However, the rest of the cast actually utilizes different techniques as well as the same ones in different ways. Gray's fight with Ultear is probably the best example, making good use of his knowledge of the enemy's abilities and using the environment itself to his advantage.

I dont understand this. Natsu's moves as a Fire Dragonslayer, are all fire based, whether its wings or claws, or roar and more, yet you say Gray, the ice mage who only uses Stationary Ice Make magic, uses different techniques? Both are using their techniques in the same way. Can you clarify I guess?

You would be a good waifu.
I would have if the admin didn't turn everyone back to their original gender. Have to put all my other skills into makeup.

I'm sure you don't have to be a master cook to make a perfect cup of tea just like in real life.

Also spend two years on baiter skills.

BGBW

Maturity, bitches.
Have you actually tasted that kind of 'Tea'? It's horrendous.

Boutique beverages. Nope.

Not that I recall but it's the only example of high class tea in the show. Guess I'd have to have high skill in gardening so I can grow my own crops to get my tea leaves. Who knew a cup of tea in SAO required so much work? Sounds like a profitable investment if everyone has to rely on you for a morning brew.

[Patema Inverted] - 4/Final

Well, that's about wraps up this short teaser/preview/whatever for the new movie by Yasuhiro Yoshiura (Time of Eve) and I have to say that it looks fairly promising. The only thing that concerned me, slightly, was the characterisation of Patema herself. It's hard to put my finger down on what, exactly, bothered me about her except that she seemed a bit weedy in this episode, which doesn't really gel with what we've already seen her accomplish. Hopefully this wont be an issue in the actual movie.

The direction seems pretty good, even a little playful in the way that they mess around with the soundtrack. I can't remember the last time I've seen an anime that does that, which is cool.

In terms of story, all that we've been introduced to who is the movie's big hook. I believe I mentioned earlier how the 'hook' reminds me of classic sci-fi stories where the entire story was based around 'what the world be like if this piece of technology existed'. For Time of Eve you could argue that the story resolved around a similar question, but that show had a very tight, personal feel. I get the feeling that, as a movie, this story is going to have a far wider scope. I suppose the big question to be answered is: will the movie have an interesting story with good characters? I know that this is a question for like, every movie ever, but with this kind of story there's a danger that everything revolves around the central conceit and the traditional storytelling falls to the wayside.

I guess I'm going to have to wait a long time to discover how it turns out.

Well, she does have a
giant ominous sky waiting to swallow her up at any time, with only a thin metal roof between it and her.
That'd be a pretty good reason for acting a little different.

I don't think they've shown Mai's family at all. I wonder what they are like...

They probably
try to pull pranks on her every night to she if she'll fall for them. She, of course, falls for none. Her parents are frightened that they brought a demon-goddess into this world and
fear for their life every night.

That almost sounds like bad writing rather than a deliberate characterization of someone always being prepared.

Or, the more obvious conclusion is that Hanazawa is playing Aika, and the ED is meant to tie into the character's theme. The song is called "happy endings" after all, which is a major plot theme for the character in the manga.

I guess that would make sense; I'm unfamiliar with the manga so I wouldn't make that connection. Maybe then the problem is that the show's casting is bad? (i.e. the roles should be reversed for better business?)

This would make for an AMAZING OVA. Too bad it bombed and KyoAni will never do anything with it ever again. ;_;

Why would you make a judgement on the casting when you know nothing about the manga?

I believe other's have said similar things about the adaptation, although none of them have phrased it quite like you have. In that case it simply highlights how much better the first adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist was and how that original team should be praised for altering the tone of the material and, in turn, improving upon it.

I definitely agree that the direction in the first series was exceptional. The tone was extremely consistent and the staff did a great job developing atmosphere. Just looking at the opening arc highlights the difference in talent between the two staff. The scene with Ed in the church talking to Rose, in the first series, was masterful. Hell you could look at the way Hughes and his death was handles as another example.

That said, this darker tone transferred into the anime-original writing and gave the show a fundamentally different message compared to the manga/Brotherhood. This is my main gripe with the original series as it kinda shits on the characters at the end.

In short,I would say the directing of the first adaptation was better but the writing in the second adaptation/manga is better.

Funny thing is, because of the order in which they've adapted the stories, the fight scene now rather suggests that Kirito won purely because he has his Magical Dragon Dung Sword of Sword Breaking. Which I gather isn't how it's put forth in the original work.

Kirito used the black sword that he's had for forever in the duel. Dragon Poop Sword is white.

Wut. Now you're just starting to sound dumb. I'm not even sure what your point was to begin with other than "waaah waaah I don't like Hanazawa's songs".

I didn't mean it like that. :-( I just keep thinking that if I were a business man who's working in a field that isn't notorious for extremely high profits and sales from the outset, I'd want to do everything in my power to maximize my sales. Having a single for an anime being performed by Mizuki Nana would probably sell much more than a single from Hanazawa Kanna, thereby bringing more money to the project. I'm not sure how that's dumb?

Well at least Array changed outfits and had screentime, same for Kirius and Izo. Their presence always brightens up each episode. Unfortunately the whole episode felt like some odd filler.
New girl and school club antics that no one cared about, really. Though I loved the whole happiness and go after what makes you happy thing at the mountain festival, that was touching
.

Only the last three minutes felt worthwhile.
Moid and Dizelmine, I thought Dizelmine would have seen the error of his ways, I hope they arent after some underhanded method of still trying to do things on the wrong path, at least Dizelmine at least :( His relations with Villaguilio were on the right track and I dont want them ruined again
