The best live action anime is Pacific Rim.
Plot that makes no sense.
Horrible dialogue.

1. Monsters invade Earth, humans make robots to fight back. Seems simple to me!
2. "TODAY WE ARE CANCELLING THE APOCALYPSE!" Sounds like awesome dialogue to me!
3. When done right when you have the above two, a little characterization goes a long way.
And the movie had a bit more than a little characterization.
1. That's not plot. That's story. There's a difference.

I never could buy into Elba in this role. I think it was played a little too straight for my liking and that speech only served to remind me how Bill Pullman did it better in '96.
