Love Live! Sunshine!! 9

For a story line that has been dragged out for almost every episode the conclusion felt strangley rushed. The moment it tension was resolved all the third years join Aqours just like that. Two of them didn't even have a proper "welcome to the team" scene.

Fate/Zero [END]

Saber>Rider

What is this madness.

So, did Kiritsugu win the war? I get that the Holy Grail was evil, but was that destruction his wish, twisted? And why did Kirei and Archer get resurrected if they essentially lost? But then, why did Kirei's wish become a reality? Also, what about Saber, did she die? I didn't expect such a weird ending...

Kiritsugu didn't win. He actively rejected the Grail and tried to destroy it, so the Grail basically disqualified him and made Kirei the winner instead, resurrecting him and granting his wish.

Saber didn't die. She's back at...where the servants go before they get summoned. I'm not really a fan of the Nasuverse so I'm not sure about the details regarding that, haha.

Such a great show. Next is UBW?

I don't recommend UBW. Urobuchi had nothing to do with it, as Fate/Zero was a LN written by him. UBW is an adaptation of a route in the original Fate/Stay Night VN written by Nasu. If you liked the stuff Urobuchi did in Fate/Zero, you most likely won't find it again in UBW.

I can't comprehend this.

But wow, so much strangling and so much Kariya suffering... That scene with Sakura was such a horrible tease for him. RIP. Ah, and I loved Waver's encounter with Archer.

In order, some of this you would know if you had read F/SN first, and some is stuff that was excluded from the anime release because it only really works in book form and it's easy enough to fill in the gaps if you think about it.

1. Without going into too much detail, the grail was corrupted in the 3rd Grail War due to Einsbern's representative in that war summoning a heroic spirit they really shouldn't have. After that it lost its "colorlessness", and any wishes granted by it will be corrupted by it in some way. That said, Kiritsugu's wish couldn't have been granted in any other way to begin with, since the Grail wouldn't have been able to grant his wish using a method that he himself could not have thought of. So basically Kiritsugu is double screwed.

2. Kirei is alive because of his connection to Gilgamesh as his Master allowed some of the Grail to flow into him and substitute for his heart. Gilgamesh himself was just too damn strong and self centered for the Grail to consume, so escaped that fate and also got a body out of the deal.

3. Saber didn't die. She's not a traditional heroic spirit in that she's not dead yet to begin with. Instead she's frozen in time at the moment of her defeat, being summoned into this and other Grail Wars.

Fate/Zero is an excellent adaptation, yeah.

Fun fact: Fate/Zero came a long way from what it was originally supposed to be. It started out as just the Kirei vs Kiritsugu fight, which would have been packaged with the fandisc of Fate/stay night. But it ended up becoming a four volume series covering the entire Grail War instead. Even then, Urobuchi only wanted it to be sold at Comiket, since he only thought of it as a thing for fans of the original work. It kinda got a lot bigger than he expected it to.

I'm a bit skeptical about UBW. The story in F/Z was conclusive, but it left me craving for more. Without Gen Urobuchi and with the praise for its fights, I suppose it becomes more like a dumb shounen or something..?

That's pretty much the general consensus of UBW. You'll still get Ufotable animation, but story and character wise it's inferior to Fate/Zero from what I've heard.

If you want to watch more Type-Moon anime, you should watch Kara no Kyoukai Movie 5: Paradox Spiral and then call it a day.

Would also suggest the first, second and fourth movie if only for the atmosphere in general.

I've sort of heard it is in the same universe as the Fate series. Not sure how true.

I don't really see UBW in the same vein as F/Z in terms of how it is presented but I can't argue if one would expect it to be in the same league.

It's mainly Shirou that bugged me. There was no real depth to his character either, even if this route does provide a bit more in terms of lore around the game and whatnot than Stay Night thanks to Rin, ultimately Shirou is still your shounen hero that does and says cringe worthy stuff about strength, protecting others and whatever else you can think of. It has its own plot reasons I guess? But it doesn't change the fact that it is an anime's anime.

Still not as bad of a show as many others out there. It is simply as we said, just go into it expecting a ton of fireworks. Don't pay too much attention to the dialogue, don't think too much, and you'll be fine.

Yep, it is. Cornelius Alba in Paradox Spiral actually appears in Fate/Zero, he's one of the mages who appears in the village after the outbreak.

Are you planning on watching the HF movies?

I'm not sure how much depth of character people want out of Shirou since he started life as the shounen hero protagonist of a ero visual novel.

Tales of Zestiria the X ep.8
Edna, my favorite smartass in gaming arrives! I gotta say it again, they are doing an excellent job pacing this story and the Edna introduction as well as tge battle with Eizen was really well done. They find the perfect time to mix in the OST and the animation is top notch..This was another excellent episode.

It's an adaptation of a mediocre pornographic visual novel (obviously with the porn excised). It's battle shounen + fantasy technobabble + harem.

Hmm, I think the third movie is the only one other than Paradox Spiral I would feel comfortable recommending. It was a decent enough standalone tale. Movie 1 was rather clumsy and 2 and 4 played way too much into the terrible overarching plot.

TFW an anime for little girls has a better love story in a single episode than 90% of the romance anime we get nowadays.

Pretty much all the Kara no Kyoukai are good, except for 6.
5 and 7 are definitely the best and they are the main reasons why you should watch the series.

I think Dia getting the proper scene is kind of odd when you consider their overall stances to being an idol. I mean having Kanan receive it since she was the primary reason the third years wouldn't join. Dia and Mari particularly don't need a scene. Although I guess by adding one third year, it means that they're ready to be idols again.

You have to remember that Fate Stay/Night was originally an eroge with a slightly better than average story for a porn game.

Then they took the porn out of it. Which didn't make it better.

Hm, much of what captivated me in the films was the atmosphere - somewhat melancholy and gloomy. It's an abstract quality or at least that is my limit of perception over films I've seen a couple of years ago. However that aided in establishing intrigue over the lore and story consistently. Unfortunately I found that sense of atmosphere somewhat lacking in film 5 so I was hoping that exploring the other films would reinforce the impression of the series built on just the fifth movie.

Granted it has been a while but it's something I want to get back to at some point.

I would second the third movie if only it hadn't started off with that disturbing sequence which arguably isn't a fair thing to say about the film but I just can't bring myself to recommend it to anyone over it.

UBW answers most of your questions. And watch it. Brings everything full circle.

Death Parade 06

Alright, this is the best episode so far. It also helped that seeing the judgement test as a deliberately/experimentally flawed system somewhat let me see this in better light. A post-apocalyptic afterlife if I may say considering it did hint on a God abandoning and the work was left to their incapable hands.

The new characters this episode were also a lot more compelling than the random folk that appeared in the previous 5 epsiodes. That even goes for their back stories and what's more was that the game was quite entertaining once the twist took place(they were playing twister so excuse the pun). I suppose the characters were more impressive because they are somehow part of the main cast going by the OP sequence and not just people that come and go for one episode.

Qualidea Code ep.8
Well, that confirms that the kids are
in an alternate world or virtual world. I wondr if that means Canaria, Hime-sama and others are still alive in the real world?
Still a ton of questions..

I'm gonna be be dead Sirius (black) for a second here.

What is the Anime equivalent of the wire?

Both critically acclaimed and considered the best, but it also has the downside of overbearing fans who need to mention it at every single turn?

I used to think Evangelion, but I don't see it recommended that often.

I was gonna say Legend of the Galactic Heroes but..

Gurren Lagann

Is far more accurate, you can bet your ass within the first 10 posts of a recommendation thread someone will say gurren lagann (and only TTGL) despite whatever the OP is asking for

how the hell does an anime like bubuki buranki gets the green light for a second season? Did the dvd/blurays do well or something?

Probably planned in advance

Re: Zero 22

That was a weak follow up. Like the calm before the storm, but everything has been taken care of already, so I don't know... 3 episodes left, so plenty can change, I suppose.

Ram finally.

Sengoku Basara 3

Best part: Takeda's main mode of communication with his subordinate Yukimura being punching. Also Date's constant gratuitous Engrish.

Worst part: Kasuga's outfit looks like it came straight out of a JAV.

Of course
the one character I was fond of and cared about bites the dust
. Goddamn you Bones.

Weird show. So much to praise from the purely technical standpoint; the designs, animation, OST and such a mixed bag writing wise. There were characters I enjoyed and ones that really surprised me with where they went with them but then there were character arcs that I utterly detested, the confusing world building and lore and just leaving certain things utterly undeveloped and trying to shove it all in at last mintue + a fair share of philosophical mumbo jumbo. It's not even my kind of show, with how character focused and mellow paced it was especially in its first half but it grew on me after coming back to it, especially when Zanbani ceased to be the focal point and Furuichi ceased too hmmmm

Kasuga's outfit feels like a joke itself in that she's the only real fanservice character. I don't think many (maybe any?) of the other female characters are sexualized so instead of spreading it around they just overloaded her.

Re: Zero - ep 22

Once again this episode brings more questions than answers.

Major EP spoilers:
It seemed Betelgeuse met his end, but it would seem that when the original dies, copies take their place. It makes sense - kill him, and his spirit takes over one of the fingers.

That ending. Damn, I can't wait till next ep. Next Sunday is too far!

I dont know what to even expect with the last three rezero episodes, it seems unlikely we'd get answers for subaru's abilities or the witch or anything of significance, like this whole sidequest, didnt add anything and just like the white whale this resolution was very weak.

Re Zero episode 22

Exciting episode, the witches cult is even more mysterious that i imagined. Loved the fight, was actually expecting that scene in the second half, since the fight was going a bit to easy.
Wonder if sloth is actually really dead, probably not ?
That end scene was surprising, now to wait a week to know what that was about !

Cus Duckroll abandoned his Bones shilling ways and bad and evil people prefer Eureka.

I dunno, I think the reception on the whole was rather unfavourable. And it's a very mellowly paced affair, not something that could easily gain popularity among the crowd.

The general consensus on Xam'd is that the first two episodes are excellent, but it collapses into a steaming pile of nonsense by the end.

I can imagine that it was intended to be comical. The show pushes the sexual tension between her and Kenshin, a man voiced by a woman for some added sexual edge, to a ridiculous degree as well. In general the show doesn't take itself very seriously even while the characters themselves maintain straight faces.

I forgot that Xam'd even existed. It was just something that vanished over time and forgotten for some reason after a lot of people were excited about it. I think it was the BOOM BOOM SATELLITES song or something.

Re:ZERO #22

Once again, I'm going to be annoyed if Subaru doesn't end up being the Archbishop of Pride after all this. I want a full heel turn damnit. I'll even cut the promo.

As for the ep itself, more questions now (especially with that ending) but only a few episodes left to answer them which I can't see happening. Hopefully there's another season on the cards.

To those looking forward to another season of Re:Zero, I'm sorry to say that you probably shouldn't get your hopes up.

The anime is ending at Arc 3, which finishes in the LN this September. Unless it goes full anime original or something like that, you'll have to wait quite a while before season 2.
