Chapter 14.
Morning Star Hill - Arca
Miss Admin: <<You need to hold the waves of Netherbeasts until they arrive, though.>>
You need to hold back/off the waves of Netherbeasts until they arrive, though.
or
You need to hold the waves of Netherbeasts back/off until they arrive, though.
?

(And that same line is repeated in the battle chatter text once the battle has begun).

Battle 14-1.
I kind of suspected this from the way the mission is framed, but anyhow, the "Win" clause is written as "Stop Nether infiltration within 20 turns"
Within makes it sound like you have to wipe them out before then, but even if you do clear the board of enemies before 20 turns are up the mission continues until Turn 20 rolls around.
(Also, if you reach Turn 20 and enemies are still up, you still win. Because I just tried that).
Considering that the mission is framed as a hold the line affair, should that be
"Stop/Prevent/Withstand Nether infiltration for 20 turns" or something similar?

True Awakening - The Unshakable Dawn Branryuzell!
It's not really a spoiler without context but I've blanked it out anyway.
Googling this, this one might be a British thing (to be fair, extra letters usually are), but it's not one I'm familiar with so on the off-chance it isn't - unshakeable?

Then there's a flashback. One of the things in the flashback is something I queried here (the 'in the inevitable'/'into inevitable' thing). I wasn't sure back then, so I'm noting it here again just in case.
Then, that flashback has a line on the end of it that I don't recall seeing in the original scene (What do you call that? What? Is it not transgression?). Was that in the original scene? Should it have been? Did I just completely forget it? I probably won't know for sure until I do a replay, so I'm just noting that down for safety's sake as well.

I've never seen it written like that. I've always seen it as "tomayto, tomahto"

Are there any battles that force party members on you? Arca Dyth and Yeng Hua are my goto party members for like every battle with the other slots just filled with random teammates, and are way farther leveled than the others

Some of the optional missions force you to use specific characters, but I can't actually think of any story missions that forced you to use (or not use) specific characters.
Some of the story missions have guest characters, and iirc they usually block one of your character spots for the mission in question, but that's about it.

A friend of mine showed me this.

What the hell? Is it true? (I can tell the first one is with my rudimentary Hiragana knowledge, at least)

You're surprised that a Victor Ireland project isn't a strict localization? I don't think those examples are that bad. It's better than the translating tsubame gaeshi as pimp hand thing that happened with Class of Heroes anyway.

That said, why don't you have your digital download code? They were all sent out about 3 weeks ago.

I ordered the game with an account linked to an email address that I can't access, I've been trying to have the emails forwarded to an email address that I can access for a few months now but I haven't had any success. I never get a reply ;( (edit: I did get a reply once but then when I provided additional information to prove that it was my order, I never got a follow-up)

Also, sorry for the late response! I usually check to see if I get quoted but I guess I haven't for the past couple of days.

Exactly, it adds personality. I probably wouldn't have cared about this game if it had just been a Namco localization.
Namco's frequently gone to 8-4 and they tend to be very good. Probably more literal on average, but very good when they have more leeway. Legend of Heroes does show what happens when they don't go to 8-4 on a text heavy game though.

EDIT: Seriously, look up L quotes from Xenoblade Chronicles X. I don't know how much is NoA or 8-4 but some of those are amazing.

Spoilers for Battle 15-2 because I want to vent :p

Talk about throwing in a last minute difficulty spike.

Traitor's Need is horrible, I was crossing my fingers every time it was "time" hoping it wouldn't hit anybody twice.

And talk about battles of attrition. It took me 75 turns to get to Phase 3. SEVENTY-FIVE x_x
The first two went down so easily, but the third was a trial and the fourth took freaking forever. I could barely damage it, I had like 10BP remaining so I was stuck with a less than ideal team, and nobody had any MP so I was juggling awful moves to try and build up enough MP to do anything.
And then I was stupid enough to trigger Phase 3 with an unhealed team, so I lost someone right off the bat. Luckily I had a suspend save from a couple of turns beforehand so I could go back and take an extra turn to heal folks up.

I'm doubting Phase 3 will be the last one either, considering how the enemy names still don't match up.

Are there any news regarding the physical copies?
Nothing after Vic's explanation a little over a week ago about them having to delay production awhile ago to patch some bugs/glitches from the physical version that were discovered from the game after the release of the digital version, just so that the UMD version is as bug free as possible (since patching isn't really possible).

Forgot to post these before.

Chapter 15

Eucross.
Calis:
I was hoping there'd be some really amazing vehicle or weapons or...something!
Calis:
But I don't see any kind of awesome equiment or party favors for our impending black celebration.
equipment.
(And as a maybe, vehicles)

Yeng-hua: Commander, I'm assuming, then that your
Cross is quite powerful. Is that correct?
I'd normally say there should be another comma after the then, but admittedly that makes it look a little odd.
Commander, I'm assuming, then, that your [...]
:|

Kagerou: Hey, sis, you okay? That's quite a crazy expression on your face there...
That was directed at Yeng-hua. I can't recall whether Kagerou ever called her that previously.

The text before 15-2:
Brattern Prime
:
I will carry this weight for us until the very end. So don't worry...
Brattern Prime
:
If the moon...and the world were all consumed by the Nether...
Brattern Prime
:
...we will need to fear no dangers from any Otherworlds.
Brattern Prime:
:
And, united in Nether, I'll be able to protect Lyndbaum forever!
Whole speech included for context. I think the mixed tenses are what makes it sound slightly off.

It reads more like a statement of intent so it sounds like the second line should be "are
all consumed
" rather than 'were'.

If it stays 'were' then the the third line would probably read better as "...we would
need fear
" (as opposed to we will) and the fourth as "I'd
be able
" (rather than I'll).

Edit:
I just found these two on the bottom of another document I had going, I guess I'd managed to get my windows confused at some point.
I think they were from Chapter 14.

Ghift
:
You were so focused on my dear brother's shadow, nothing else matters.
Ghift
:
You never even noticed the small figure beside you
, pursuing the monolithic shadow as well.
'pursuing that monolithic shadow as well'?
(And if that first line actually said 'matters' it should probably have been 'mattered', but I remember that wasn't what I'd originally intended to query so it's entirely possible that I typed that out wrong myself).

Back Alley - Atosh
Atosh: I saw it happen with my own eyes, and I still am having a hard time with it.
and I am still having a hard time with it.
and I'm still having a hard time with it.
(Then again, he's a dodgy mob guy, he can probably say what he wants).

at least they already billed me for the game. *looks at canadian dollar.. :(((((

Just started the game and picked Spinel as my partner because why wouldn't you

So far so solid! The game flow is simple yet addictive, the characters are fun and the translation is great. I don't even miss the lack of voiced Japanese dialogue since it's easier to insert my own voices for the characters anyway (Stephanie Sheh would rock Spinel imo).

PS: Abert is amazing

I'm coming a Trails of Cold Steel high and am wanting a JRPG with a similar feel. Would you guys recommend this?

I'd recommend it, but not because it's like Cold Steel. 'Cause it's not. :P
Grid-based strategy RPG, great characters, replayability, fantastic localization.
If that appeals to you, go for it!

Doesn't this have a school setting?
There is a school (well, an Academy) but the game isn't really set there.
The lead character has left the Academy and works for Eucross, which is sort of like a Police Force except it deals primarily with problems that are important to Summoners and Spirits rather than regular people (like problems caused by rabble rousing spirits, or unregistered summoners wandering around, or liasing with the settlements the spirits from other worlds live in).
I say 'sort of' because there's a separate regular police force that primarily deals with regular people criminals and regular people crime.

Boy Chapter 9 is some BS. I can do without constant respawning enemies in story battles, thanks.
You'll be seeing more of them, so I suggest you get used to it :p

Some of the early ones you can cheese because they have fixed spawn points and you can dump characters on them to prevent them spawning. (At some point that stopped working though, I can't remember exactly when).

I really need to go back to 15-2 and try and finish it off, but I got distracted playing Trails SC. It feels a little weird that the two games I'm most enjoying at the moment are PSP games.

For anyone curious about the UMD release (like I am), someone from Gaijin mentioned that it's being shipped at the end of February if all goes well.

They really should use their Twitter to communicate this sort of thing, though. Last post there is from December, which doesn't inspire confidence from people unless you do like I did and dive deeper and search for information on their forum.

Spiffy. We're finally gonna find out what the surprise bonus thing is, haha.

Definitely my biggest issue with the campaign. A single tweet every two weeks or something would go a long way.

Yeah and it doesn't help that Vic usually goes MIA for long stretches of time on here and his forums, so no one knows anything until he returns :/ Communications with the consumer is very importanto.

I don't think I'm doing something right, why can't I get the Ally Abilities to activate during battle? They're always shaded out.

Also, why can't I use the MC's awakening? Does his cross have to be present?

Ally Abilities only work if the ally is in reserve. I think the translation for that tutorial was misleading. And yes to the other question.

Encountered another game breaker, hoping it's just in this battle. At start of the second battle in Chapter 12(during the two back-to-back), attempting to purchase character-specific skills crashes the game, a coding error appears.

Once you go to Acquire Skill,
Code:
FsFont.cpp(288): EntStr() entry over
appears.

This hard crashes the game, but music still plays, and I can still access the Vita overlay.

Isn't that just the well known Acquire Skill bug? It can pretty much happen everywhere

Oh, first time I've seen it. Will it be gone after the battle?

I don't think anyone figured out any kind of consistency. There are ways to avoid it though.
Some people reported that they permanently fixed it, but the only way I was able to avoid it was to only learn skills in my room. Pre-Battle would always crash.

Another bug in Chapter 12-2. Yeesh. Using Ruelly's Awakening hard crashed the game, and also made it impossible to restart.

I had to power cycle the system to relaunch the game.

Regarding the ability bug, sometimes you can bypass it on the pre-battle screen by acting like you're going to spend the XP on levels instead, then going to the ability page afterwards. Similarly sometimes it seems to work if you quickly switch to the 'next' ability page and then back. But yeah, neither are reliable, and sometimes it will still crash anyway.

I consider myself quite lucky never to have encountered the Yeng-hua bug people mentioned, but it might be because I didn't bother using her sword skills until after I had the ability to attack multiple times, so by then I'd probably levelled or upgraded past whatever was causing the problem.

I never had a problem with Ruelly either, luckily.

Anyhow!

After finishing SC, I have now returned to this, and tonight, after one hundred and five turns of pain I have cleared 15-2 \o/

Battle 15-2 spoilers

So, my party went into this battle with the following levels/classes:
Arca - Lv29 Life Res Specialist.
Kagerou - Lv28 Ogre Flame Kid (I unlocked his other classes, but none of them really worked for me so I stuck with this one).
Abert - Lv20 Lightning Swordsman
Yeng-hua - Lv25 Silver Piercing SK
Calis - Lv24 Metal Atk Specialist
Souken - Lv12 Eucross Summoner (Yes yes, I never gave him a fair shot)
Cyda - Lv26 High Summoner
Ruelly - Lv28 Future Summon Star
Torque - Lv19 Blacksmith
Atosh - Lv28 Chain Criminal
Exela - Lv22 Rompish Songstress

And spoilers for the Battle now:

I vented about the drag that was Phase 2 before, Phase 3 felt much better paced. Part of that was probably down to having enough BP to start cycling in characters as and when needed again.

I had a save in Turn77 for "triggering" P3 that I estimate I had to restart from ~20 times. Yeah, I know I suck.

My first few goes I just couldn't seem to get the right balance between Ghift and the adds, but once I got the hang of controlling the adds properly (getting rid of more dangerous ones first, or luring them into range of targets they seem to like, like Yeng and Cyda, so I could start dropping Inberg Zero on them) it got far more manageable.

That final bit where he drops below ~720hp is some brutal, brutal stuff. The first time I triggered it he slaughtered most of my team in a turn, it was... quite a shock ^^;
Even after that I kicked myself several times for triggering it before I meant to, because if you have to end a turn there with multiple melee in range... owch. Owch owch owch.
Complete Denial is a brilliant name for an attack though, I love it.

In my successful win I only lost one character, but frankly I was lucky. At the end of turn 103 he had 3hp remaining. The fact he and his adds only got Atosh that turn was, frankly, lucky as shit. Based on some of my previous failed attempts he could have utterly slaughtered me

My MVP for the fight was probably Calis because I couldn't have made it through P2 without him, but in P3 the load was spread far more evenly.
Atosh/Kagerou/Calis were basically there to tank Ghift, especially once he started doubling down on his attacks, but Calis wasn't as useful when his Resonance wasn't up so it was good to be able to swap in. Atosh was great, but if the adds were too close pretty much everything would target him so being able to swap him out until I could actually spare healing for him (and while he regenned in the backups) was a relief.
Yeng, similarly, was excellent for damage but ranged damage attacks tore through her so being able to swap between her/Cyda/Ruelly was useful. I even made use of Exela a few times.

Actually, despite all the venting in my previous post and this one and the one hundred and five turns of pain I really enjoyed 15-2. It required a lot more thought than the battles leading up to it. I kind of wish more of the game had been like it, but I guess if it had then 15-2 wouldn't have been such a standout.

I went for the (character who joins near the end of the game spoiler)
__Atosh__
ending because how could I not. It was... fitting. I liked it, anyway. And Arca
totally won and has a new boytoy
.

I don't have it in me to go back to my last save and try again for the other endings from there though, not after that last section. I figure by the time I've gone through a replay I'll be higher level next time due to spending less on skills, so I'll save the other endings for next time around.
Probably aiming for Cyda or Calis next time (although I might feel a little mean about that because my shipping brain was totally shipping Calis/Souken).
