Not sure if this is related to the game or my vita, but I was playing like normal, I used a skill the screen went black and it just displayed the name of the skill, then an error popped up and it said summon night 5 failed to install close application, clicking to reopen SN5 just brought me back to black screen with skill display.
After a minute the game got an error and closed, then it would not load and just went to black screen, so I decided to turn it off, now its just got a spinning loop and not turning off for past 10m
EDIT:
Was able to cycle, i'll just assume it was some wierd random vita error, no clue why it want me to to install sn5 again though while i was playing it.

This was with a Yeng-hua sword attack, right? We've been trying to reproduce this bug for a number of days and cannot do it yet. If we can't reproduce it, we can't fix it, but we'll keep trying. It's pretty obscure because there have only been like 4-5 reports of it, and well...we're TRYING and can't get it to happen. If anyone can get it to happen on video, that would be very helpful for our quest to reproduce it.

Hrmm, not sure, but i did havae yeng-hua in my party at the time it was the fight a litlte bit after you learn fishing. I'll pick the same group of characters and see if it happens again, all i remember was that i was just quickly choosing commands nothing much different then usual.
This exchange triggered while I was working through missions in Eucross HQ the other day (it also gave me illustration 53 afterwards)
[Miss Admin Stuff]
Referring back to this.
It said it gave me illustration 53, but now I've looked at the gallery list illustration 53 hasn't actually unlocked.
Illustration 55 and Anime Still 35 (and Anime Still 34) feature Miss Admin though so I'm wondering if it unlocked one of those instead?
I'm not able to check now though, as I don't have a save from before that point to go back to.
(I have to admit, I'd never actually thought to check if it was unlocking the images it claimed to be unlocking before).
And a few more:
Post Battle 11-2 in the episode epilogue.
"But if we finally we defeated Ghift and ended his awful plan, it was all worth it"
See, as I didn't get this reference for some reason I assumed that would be some form of May Day, with Maypole dancing. Oops
(In terms of other references I didn't get, I also remember having to look up wth a Smalley affirmation was. I did at least clock that it was a reference though).
For reasons known only to the Japanese mind, the Illustration numbers don't match up to the illustration gallery slots. I know, weird. I had the programmer go over it again to make sure we weren't missing something and you can see where they're reassigning one illustration to show in a different gallery slot.

If you didn't know the reference and didn't get it, that's actually better because that means it works well enough not to stick out if you don't get the reference. The Festivus one works better than the Smalley one for that reason, but I couldn't resist a reference from a sitting senator's past.
Neat game. Wasn't particularly difficult but certainly was entertaining. My thoughts:
Battles
They felt slow. Even with skipping animations and movement via R+X, enemy turns and transitions felt like they took forever. Makes the small amount of grinding required that much more tedious. Otherwise good! Except for survival missions. Kill everything in the first 3-4 turns and then deal with paltry reinforcements for another 15-25 turns. Talk about dull.
Balance
The awakening 'finisher' skills seemed pretty worthless against just about every enemy
except maybe Ghift (because of size).
It's usually more effective to just use an AoE spell instead.
Blanc Flash was probably the most overpowered summon skill in the game - the range and AoE is better than almost everything else and way more accessible than equivalents on other summons / clusters.
The missions
in chapter 14 & 15 for advanced training felt like a grind wall. I cleared the first two and then realized I'd need to get everybody up 5ish levels before I'd have a shot at the third. Why bother when mid-40s and low 50s are already way more than enough for the final battles?
Most of the extra classes are worthless. The exception being classes
that provide Furious Charge - easily the most broken passive ability in the game.
Story
Hits every Japanese Anime trope and then some. I mean, extremely warped logic, asinine decisions, and secrets for the sake of having secrets everywhere. Not to mention the Team Rocket-style 'oh hey they got away again' for Erst/Ghift stuff which is hilarious because you are the force specifically hunting them down.
Final Battle
Ghift/Erst 3.0 and the nether Ghift were kind of underwhelming. The only real threat was their magic but the AI had the tendency to physically attack (for good damage but it would never hit because of dodge ratings) unless it could get a large number of people for a AoE attack. Dumb and exploitable.
Ending Epilogue (Arca/Spinel)
Holy shit, what a pathetic cop out! Was that excuse used in the Japanese version too? Reading what Arca said was a complete slap in the face after the build-up. A huge sour note for an otherwise ok ending scene.
Cyber Teacher Ricky: "Summoner Erst, huh? Been a long time since I heard that name..."
Cyber Teacher Ricky: "We used to see him around here with this Cross Gaudi all the time"
Clesea: "If I were to point out one key point about them, it would have to be..."
Clesea: "...they they have developed an large amount of weapons using science and technology."
Kagerou: "Hey, bruh, I'm not gonna leave ya hangin'! I'll help!"
Calis: "Ahh...there! Bar master's back to the environment where worries of the day melt away."
Heh! The difficulty perception is all over the map depending on player skill and experience. I've heard everything from too easy to way too hard. I think if you've played strategy RPG games before, it's "just right."
What's the best way to update my address with Gaijinworks before this ships? I moved recently and haven't seen the option on the website or the emails =X

There will be a last call email about 1-2 weeks before the physical ships. If you have a Hotmail or yahoo account where they might delete this so you don't see it, following @GAIJINWORKS on twitter is good backup for seeing the announcement (and other game info).
The time up to the first two battles is almost all dialogue back and forth to set the story up. It can take like 45 minutes or so. Then the next few chapters are all putting pieces in place. Chapter 5 or 6 is when things really get interesting. Take your time - don't feel like you have to rush or get everything and you'll enjoy the payoff of the story more, I think.

Thanks, Vic. I apprectiate the reply. Bought copies for myself and my gf so I definitely don't want them getting lost. I'm on gmail, so that should be fine.
I received the press preview mailing for this yesterday and it made me nostalgic for the old days of the Working Designs message board. Haven't had time to dig into the game yet (what with all the end-of-year stuff going on), but I'm about to start and am looking forward to it.
13-2 is the first story mission I've really thought was hard. If I hadn't saved over my pre-battle save by mistake I might have actually attempted to go away and do some leveling before trying it again. Unfortunately I didn't do that so I have no choice but to attempt to forge on through. This could take a while :\
Edit: Meh, I managed it, but had to skip the defeat all enemies clause. I only had two other spawns up at the same time but if I'd killed them then I would have lost at least one party member on the next turn, if not more, which would have invalidated the nobody incapacitated clause. And then I might not have managed to take him down on the next turn anyway. I'll take it, for now.
(Although if I'm honest I haven't yet managed the extra condition on that mission from chapter 12 either, the "defeat all within ten turns" one. The best I've managed so far is about double that).
I think the part of the challenge is that I'm looking rather under-leveled at the moment. The enemies in 13-2 are lv27, with the boss at lv29. The enemies in 13-3 are lv28-29 and the boss is lv31.
My characters (that I use) are lv22, with Arca at 24 and (character spoiler)
Atosh
at 25 (and I'm pretty sure that's the level the last one joined at). I ended up leaning on Calis pretty heavily in 13-2 actually and he's only lv20.
I mean yes, they're loaded with skills, but I'm regretting not bumping up their stats a little at the moment
Most of these are maybes, this time:
Chapter 9 - Maquis Quay
Arca: Atosh! I have one question for you. Was this...Ghift's doing!!
Was this...Ghift's doing?!
(I didn't report it before because I'm never quite sure about the correct way to mix exclamation points and question marks. Now I've noticed the game do it as ?! a couple of times I'm "correcting" the one where it was missed)
Chapter 12 - Souken's Night-time chat.
A maybe, because it might just be Souken being Souken.
Souken: Those were sincere words from your heart, so what is to be embarrassed about?
As the eldest of the Brattern family
As the head of the Brattern family
As the last head of the Brattern family
As the last of the Brattern family (not quite accurate)
Abert: Hey, you're a Police Knight too! How are you resolving the conflict?!
Yeng-hua: You know my mission isn't directly related to the Crimson Chain
Yeng-hua: Now if I let
Erst Brattern get away, as you did, Atosh, maybe it would affect my mission
Abert: Daggers to the heart. You really are ruthless, Yeng-hua, but I will find your soft side.
At first glance I thought the wrong name had been used (
Atosh
instead of Abert, as she was talking to Abert. You'll see that he separates her out as his target the same way in the next line)
Afterwards I decided it was the comma use making it parse oddly.
Now if I let
Erst Brattern get away, as you did Atosh, maybe it would affect my mission.
Now if I let
Erst Brattern get away, as Atosh escaped you, maybe it would affect my mission.
Or strip out the names even.
"Now if I let my target get away, as you did, maybe it would affect my mission"
C13 - Deep Forest - Arca
It might just be Calis being Calis, but:
Calis: Hey, no judgements, man! Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses! Mine is studying
Either:
A that should be added to the second line so that the third line continues from it. (you should already understand everything. That the Bratterns are [...] And that we...even Ghift [...])
Or:
The that should be removed from the third line so that it continues from the second line as it currently stands (you should already understand everything. The Bratterns are [...] And we...even Ghift... [...])
Battle 13-2
Completing the extra brave clause "Defeat 5 foes with Life Cleansing Flash" triggers this.
(And, of course, the same error as in 11-2 applies here. The skill is misnamed in the brave conditions, and is actually called Purification Flash).
Also the party skill Hyena's Olfaction says it "Improves success rate of Seize command to 100%"
Functionally it seems to work on Rob as well, which makes sense because Rob is just Seize with a different name, but should the skill state that it works for both? I ask because the character the skill "belongs" to has Rob, not Seize.
I don't think you can get past affinity 3 until chapter 13 or 14, and I believe having 3 affinity with them is necessary in order to select a character and pursue their ending at that point.
I haven't actually gotten there yet.
This is known and specific to Yeng-hua but pretty rare - we still can't reproduce it on the dev system, which we need to do to fix it. But someone made us a video of theirs crashing, so we're using that for clues in how to reproduce it. It will be fixed, it's just a matter of getting it to happen for us so we can figure out the "why" and correct it.

This is a good example of the craziness of multiple dialogue paths for the same section. This punctuation problem is ONLY on Arca's version of this dialogue. Folth's is fine.
Thanks, fixed it. (And some of your others, though a few were the way they were supposed to be)
We have to wait for Sony to get back (1-4-16 back in the office) to re-QA the updated build. Once it's approved and posted on PSN, you'll just delete the game you have and re-download the whole revised release again. The ID numbers are the same so it will know you already own it and the saves shouldn't be affected.
So can anyone explain how the automatic character specific party skills work?
It seems like they have to be in the reserves for them to activate, but are there any other requirements or ways to make them activate more often? Does Affinity affect it ect.?
Only asking because I have only ever had Souken's work and maybe 2 or 3 times at that.

Having cleared 13-3 I'm kicking myself for not realising Awakening Arcana's didn't count as Life Res Awakenings. So to anybody else who might make the same mistake -- they don't ^^;
And my save is right before the killing blow because I wasn't sure if it would be the end of chapter battle with night chats to follow, so I can't even go back and do the turn in a different order to try and finish it differently, as my party gets pretty much wiped out if I try to wait another turn. Ah well, I guess that's a clause I'll have to get in the memory replays as well.
... I'm also a little annoyed that I wasted turns getting someone in position to steal the 4 Worlds Ring off that grunt and now they're buyable, because that feels like it was an utter waste of time
(Unless they're buyable because I stole one, which wouldn't be so bad, but I doubt that somehow)
So can anyone explain how the automatic character specific party skills work?

After C14's Eucross HQ - Yeng-hua and Eucross HQ - Miss Admin chats, Eucross HQ - Angel - Ariel unlocks.
The spirits that chat with Ariel are the ones in your summon cluster: Starlight Spirit Peko, Angel Girl - Cuala, and Flower Fairy - Eureka.
So, Fairy Exela from my earlierquery is given what's presumably her real name here
"the Almines" implies plurality, and I think he was singular. Also, in Cyda's Night time chat (the one titled "11. The Original Almines Tree") she called the angel Almine, not Almines. So that should be:
"Or wait! I bet it's because they have the blessing of Almine, the Archangel of fertility. "
And I could be entirely wrong about this one because I'm not really sure how much of the lore I've absorbed during play:
Clesea: "...it's surprising you know this, since it's from a time just after the Astreiz."
I was under the impression Astreiz was the present, or at the very least came about after the World Warp War that gets referred to as being in the dubiously-recent past. So maybe that should have been "a time before the Astreiz"?
Or at the least, if it was meant to be a while ago "a time just after the Astreiz began"
Got all your others (Astreiz is the current era, btw, so it just need a "began").
This one with the senior vs Senior was a good one because it caused me to look for other instances. We made a decision to capitalize "Senior" in text globally, but it was missed here and 5 other places in the final text. There were about 200 instances total. They're all good now.
Also...
Is anyone RELIABLY able to reproduce the Yeng-hua black screen sword attack lockup (i.e. follow these steps and it happens every time)? We have the video showing it, but there must be some other variables because we STILL can't make it happen, and we're running out of time to get it fixed before we submit the patch to Sony.
Finished my first playthrough! Really enjoyed the game overall and hope that SN6 can make it over here too. Thanks for bringing the game over
That final boss wasn't messing around though, sheesh. Will be doing a second playthrough after the patch hits to get a few more endings (Abert/Kagerou/Torque mainly) got Souken's ending and it was surprisingly cute, even if he's still his severe self until the very end lol.
Now I'm happy I put so much effort into leveling up skills since they carry over.
All they've said was that the production and/or them receiving the UMDs saw some kind of delay and that they are basically just waiting for those to arrive before they can start shipping the physical copies, IIRC. This was maybe in the last 2-3 weeks.
We had to cancel the UMD production master discs that we received before Christmas because it had the same code as the PSN release with the Acquire Skill bug that was found a few days after release. There's only one factory left in the world making UMDs now and the master to FQA to manufacture process takes way longer than it used to as a result.
So we're resubmitting with the Acquire Skill bug fixed and a bunch of miscellaneous typo and clarity fixes noted here and elsewhere so the UMD in the final box will have no known issues.
Yeah, it's a drag, but that's why we chose to release the digital in advance of the physical - so everyone who supported the physical+digital set can actually be playing the game while they wait, and believe me, it's killed me not to share the surprises we haven't shared yet for the physical release. I've kept them a secret so the fans have more to discover and discuss when it shows up.
That said, why don't you have your digital download code? They were all sent out about 3 weeks ago.
Thanks for supporting it, and glad you enjoyed it. I really, really like the world and characters of Summon Night, so it's great to be able to share it in English at last!
