I still think I was right in saying the offstage game has been neutered, I don't think I've been able to get a go deep and get a good low %age kill yet, but it might just be me.

Recoveries seem really good and the air dodge is super spammable.

I don't think it's inherently a bad change, just something to get used to, but it definitely means stock count will be 3 TOPS, if not just 2.
I think this is an inherently bad change. It makes Brawl and even PM less fun.

If I could get enjoyment from Brawl though, I can put up with it here. Especially if the game is otherwise good, which it seems to be.

Guys I want this demo in my veins now. I thought I'd be fine waiting for another 3 weeks for the full version, but the fact there is a demo out there that I can't play is going to keep me up at night T_T

Give us a date NoA! :'(

I rather take the whole game, personally.

Living in a house with unskilled smash players, there is nothing more discouraging than having your stock last less than 15 seconds. It's just different, and definitely something to help casual players 'feel better' about how they're playing. I honestly don't mind. We'll see how the FGC takes it, but w/ combos being back, it may not matter.

As I mentionned in the othe thread, I really wish we would get a competent stream of two players duking it out locally via wireless.

Just how much faith can we put in a level 1 CPU to DI out of "combos" and stuff? Level 9 maybe, but eeeeven then...

Still, the flow of the game looks real good so Day -3 Mario Combos or no I have total confidence in the game.

More impressions.

Mario

I was never a big Mario player so I can't comment on the finer aspects, but he certainly feels more mobile (then again so does everyone). His uppercut seems to have gotten a boost. I managed to KO Villager with it. I would also say his forward air attack is improved. I'm curious to see how Doctor Mario is supposed to compare to him since I'm not sure what more they could do minus giving him back the tornado.

Link

I love playing as Link even though many said he was garbage tier for so long. His smashes and tilts feel so powerful. He is certainly faster, and his new jumping strike is great for both mobility, damage, and knockback. I was surprised to see myself KOing people with even simple smashes and tilts. He certainly shouldn't be underestimated.

Pikachu

Out of all the vets, Pikachu seems the most new. So many of his animations are completely different. His back air also seems to attack the opponent for a much longer time unless I am imagining this. He really feels like he has been updated in every way instead of Ctrl V'd from another game. HIs final smash is faster and focuses more on smaller movements instead of big swoops like in Brawl. It's still fairly difficult to control though to balance things out.

Mega Man

Mega Man is a very strange character. His specials are pretty weak and not many of his moves have KO power. He has a powerful side smash that has excellent range though. His shoryuken does good damage and has a lot of knockback even at low percentages. His slide is also very quick and good for both moving around the map and delivering damage. His aerials are quite powerful, though his down aerial (hard knuckle) is extremely easy to miss and I couldn't figure out the sweet spot for the meteor smash. I feel like a lot of people may be disappointed with him, but I think there could be potential for some interesting gameplay.

Villager

Easily the most annoying character to play against. Every two seconds there's some gyroid that's about to blow up in your face. I was a bit worried since previous impressions on this character were underwhelming, but he is a very fun character to use. His recovery options are absolutely crazy. You have the balloon fighter recovery, which basically lets you fly around the map. It is very fast to activate and the movement is pretty speedy, so I can see people having difficulty popping the balloons. The gyroid is also an excellent recovery tool, though slower to activate and you are also vulnerable when jumping off of it, so people can take advantage of you if they pay attention. I complained earlier about his tree move, but I've actually killed people with the tree! It's actually a versatile move, as when the tree grows it serves as a powerful attack and can also serve as sort of a zoning tool since you can just hide near it and wait to strike with your axe. The axe itself is also a very good attack though there is some recovery lag. The tree is very good at edge guarding and I was surprised to see how many fell victim to it. His aerial options are pretty limited (both his back and forward air are slingshot attacks) but he can still cause havoc if used correctly.

Items

When you collect all the Daybreaker items, you are automatically given the weapon. You press A to fire it, which instantly KOs anyone that gets in the way. Turning is not so smooth though, so it can be easy to botch.

There seems to be some variation to the Galaga item. If you hit it before you pick it up, it will turn purple. I'm not sure if it functions differently though.

You can actually ride on the Gogoat!

The 30 FPS for Assist Trophies is very noticeable. Ghirahim looks like a slide show. Not a big deal, but still.

Everyone looks great with the Tanooki leaf. However, Pikachu does not get the Tanooki ears, yet still gets the tail.

The Gust Bellows is ridiculous. Whoever gets that thing is guaranteed a kill or two. It is an instant win button for two minute matches.

About the blast boxes, for the sides they are certainly noticeable, but I feel the blast box for the roof on Battlefield is pretty small. I got some surprising roof KOs during my fights.

That's what handicaps and the knockback reduction options are supposed to be for though, maybe they should have just made it more apparent what those things did and made them a bit more prevalent for newer players.

It would be cool if there's an option to turn up hitstun this time around.

It if doesn't release tomorrow, we'll probably won't get it this week. There was really no warning and Japan got it before the Nico Nico stream so it's possible.

Gonna stop taking entries on it (not that much interest to begin with), but unless it leaks in the next 2.5 hours, it looks like wednesday loses, too.

JJ Epperson said he'd be getting it thursday (japan time), and seemed to imply others would, as well.

Leaks should probably start tonight or tomorrow morning JP time. I'll be getting my copy tomorrow at any rate.

Those VGBootcamp guys were playing locally earlier on but now they're just hosting another guy's stream. He said he'll be playing with Zero later on.

Finally downloaded the demo! Been flipping through the Smash Facts section for random info (and to enjoy the nice café style version of the main theme):
  • On the Paper Mario stage, players will become easier to launch to the right while the fan is blowing.
  • On the S.S. Flavion section, an enormous Blooper will appear. It won't attack the players, but it will create enormous waves to rock the boat.
  • The enormous Bowser head on the airship portion will occasionally rotate. Before it spins, the eyes will glow red, so be careful.
  • On the Find Mii stage, the Dark Lord (or whatever) will occasionally destroy one of the two platforms, leaving players with only one place to fight.
  • When the Dark Lord casts magic on players, the effects will be displayed on the bottom screen.
  • The spiky pillars in the 3D Land stage appear randomly and destroy any platforms they touch. Players who touch the pillars will incur great damage.
  • When players collect 100 coins on the NSMB2 stage, they will turn to golden fighters. Once golden, players will become stronger and more difficult to launch.
  • There are four different platform layouts in Arena Ferox, and some portions can be destroyed.
  • On the Tortimer Island stage, sometimes a beehive will appear from the trees on the island. Attacking the hive will cause the bees inside to come after you.
  • Dunno if it's been confirmed already, but Saki Amamiya is back as an Assist Trophy.
Whoa! I haven't been keeping up with the level updates. These sound amazing!

As much as I love playing as Villager, I'm glad to know Villager's down Smash isn't as broken as I thought in the past.

So far it seems the CPUs I've been fighting show that if you mash, you can escape it. CPUs that are like lv5 and higher try to shake out of it instead of letting it wear off automatically and lv9s don't waste any time mashing out of it.

Just reading the impressions of Mega Man reminds me a bit of how Squirtle played in Brawl. Pretty quick with not too many powerful attacks and once you get the hang of him, he will be annoying to play against.

Speaking of mashing, if the beetle/galaga bug grab you when you're low enough (like on battlefield's main platform), you can basically always break free by mashing buttons. It'll only KO people not paying attention, or people who are hit high above the platform.

S flag is almost impossible to use on a small stage, but should be banned on larger stages. Once you pick it up, you have to find a safe spot, and hold A while you do the pose for a solid 5+ seconds. I guess if you knock someone off the stage and it spawns while they're trying to recover, and you're on the other side of the stage, you can get it, but it's not easy to pull off.

The grass is just an item container. Link, at least, had a 'plucking' animation, which I think is new (btw, his new up throw animation is fantastic), and as soon as you pluck it, it becomes an item, so it's basically 'pick up random item.' It's different than say, a capsule, which requires it to be hit/thrown to transform into an item, it's just a 'disguised' item, i guess.

i bet on thursday on the last thread but you probably misses my post ><

Yeah, thread moving way too fast yesterday. Needed PMs to add anyone.

This thread needs a title.

It feels..... naked.

New thread already?

I predicted that we could get 20-25 pages by tomorrow morning but I was dearly wrong. we got about 15 pages but it's still enough to get thread locked but I'm wrong with my prediction.

Villager's pocket is crazy. His whole moveset is, but imagining the stuff people will learn to do with the pocket makes me sweat.

Getting used to Mega Man, too.

Also, that stage select screen is taunting me. So many cool looling stages I want to try out.

Also again, laughing at everyone who mocked the thing about rebuilding the character from scratch. The veterans feel so different and Pikachu in particular animates much nicer.

30fps Nintendog is a little distracting. It's noticable on the other ATs and Pokemon, but Nintendog distracts because it takes up most of the screen.

So you think that all characters are rebuilder from scratch this time? If so, then it's amazing because I already noticed new animations in old moves. I'm glad that they decided to breath a new lives into Smash by reanimating every characters. I hope that they would do same for Ganondorf too.

They finally made Link non-shit?

Praise the Triforce. Here's hoping they unnerfed Samus. She was so sucky in Brawl :(

Is t me or does Mega Man's side B seem useless? His A and tilt A is already all about a forward projectile. So let's give him... a forward projectile for a special.

And happy b-day Ash.
