If, however, it does happen, it will be free DLC for the 3DS. They're NOT going to require fans to own both systems and both copies of the game to unlock the full roster.

They could seriously make it purchaseable. Take Mario Kart 8, there are going to be fans racing on tracks with Link (probably) with people who never bought Link. Unless the DLC characters in Mario Kart 8 are banned from online play.

What's interesting is the clone corner is actually where Chorus Men would have been, had they been in the game.

So they may have taken CM's CSS area when CM was too much for the 3DS, which would explain Shulk being by himself.

Sorry, but version specific characters aren't going to happen. Sakurai has been explicit and insistent in his message that the rosters between the two versions are identical. He is NOT going to require players to own both versions of the game to unlock all of the characters, as implementing such a concept would result in hundreds of thousands of players not having the ability to play the full roster.

I have a source who has been right about previous leaks and has worked on the European localization of the game. He says he has definitely seen moving models of Dixie, Ridley, Chorus Men and Mewtwo in the game and he's still confident that these four characters can be unlocked by linking the 3DS version to the Wii U version.

Now, I know how outlandish this sounds, and being a game journalist myself I'm taking this with a grain of salt myself, but we're talking about the guy who told me about the Bowser Jr. alts immediately after the ESRB leaks and has never been wrong about other stuff as well. Plus, the whole connectivity thing makes far too much sense, if only to get fans to buy both versions. *insert itprintsmoney.gif here*

I mean I love the roster, I got Bowser Jr and hes the person I wanted the most and not to mention all those I (and practice buddies) main are back. I want Magicant on the Wii U version so badly. That has to be my favorite stage bar none right now. It may not be Saturn Valley, but it's so much better than I could have hoped for. Cannot even be angry at the roster with that.

The final roster is cool, I'm fine with it. Shulk and Charizard were all that I wanted and I got them. I do hope that there's DLC though for those who didn't get their characters.
I still think cutting 4 completely unique characters was a bit harsh tbh.

While true, he does have a point though. Ridley doesn't do anything with Pikachu. Every single other boss with a grab attack does something and you can't just immediately break out. I for one would love Ridley to be playable since I think a flight based moveset would be pretty interesting to see.

Though Ridley when grabbing Samus hits her with his tail, slams her, drags her around or just burns her iirc.

Other bosses that grab are in single player where they are your opponent, and really we're talking about final bosses like Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Master Core where they are supposed to be really really hard and punish people that can't predict patterns. Stage hazzard bosses are kind of a new concept. It would be unfair if you were playing a multiplayer match and you weren't able to escape from Ridley like you can a character.

In 2D games Ridley pretty just grabs Samus and whatever happens while she's grabbed is part of his random attack sequences. Slamming and dragging like he does in other games (Brawl and Other M pretty much) were done with cutscenes that aren't an option here.

I have no sympathy for 3DS warriors when the game is why Ice Climbers were cut. It would be the most beautiful form of poetic justice if the Ice Climbers were Wii U exclusives. Not that I think that'll happen, but I would think it kind of funny.

Especially when some are just all "welp ICs are gone that's the price we pay for portable smash sorry y'all" which is sorta shit.
