the Wii U connectivity rumor is pretty scummy if true. You want the extra characters in the games that are supposed to have the same roster with no bullshit involved? Buy a $300 console!

How is this dirty of nintendo? They are already asking the entire populace to pick up a WiiU, its not like they are creating the WiiU just to make people pay more for more smash characters.

Fuck it, I'm just gonna put it out there:

(And I'm not saying this to troll fans or keep the hype up or whatever.)

I have a source who has been right about previous leaks and has worked on the European localization of the game. He says he has definitely seen moving models of Dixie, Ridley, Chorus Men and Mewtwo in the game and he's still confident that these four characters can be unlocked by linking the 3DS version to the Wii U version.

Now, I know how outlandish this sounds, and being a game journalist myself I'm taking this with a grain of salt myself, but we're talking about the guy who told me about the Bowser Jr. alts immediately after the ESRB leaks and has never been wrong about other stuff as well. Plus, the whole connectivity thing makes far too much sense, if only to get fans to buy both versions. *insert itprintsmoney.gif here*

Again, I swear on my soul that I'm not trolling. Time will tell. I thought Ridley was never gonna be in, but hey.

I believe you that this could be real. I think it's an unusual design/release choice but I can see how they are already in an unusual situation of releasing these games at different times.

There are advantages to the $300 console other than those characters. I think it's fair as long as the Wii U also has to connect to the 3DS for them.

Guys...I think Spainkiller isn't lying

This screencap was from a /v/ thread made on 07/27 before the ESRB leak

He says the game will have:
Dixie
Shulk
Chorus Men
Ridley
Bowser Jr
Mewtwo
Duck Hunt Dog

Fast forward to the ESRB leak from 08/20 -> http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=878858

This confirms 3 out of the 7 characters from the /v/ poster and it's also confirmed 100% now that we have the final roster

Now that leaves us with the last 4 characters...Dixie, Chorus Men, Ridley, and Mewtwo

Spainkiller from NeoGAF posted this today:

Zipzo (who is credible, he posted a lot of info from the final JP smash build a few days ago) tweeted this:

"Mewtwo is in."

I guess we'll see in a few months what happens ;)

and this is why Sakurai wanted to have roster parity.

To prevent complaints like this.

If there is connectivity or whatever, I am sure it will just be DLC...deal with it.Or don't buy it out of principle..whatever.

So can anyone confirm how many challenges have been completed by anyone who has completed the first 35 challenges?

Sorry to bold, but I really want to know whether Sakurai totally dropped the ball here.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Despite being a mammal and a bird, I'm really not seeing much Banjo-Kazooie in DHD.

And maybe it's just me, but that "BK Palette" looks nothing like the Bear and Bird.

Locking out characters in a fighting game because you don't own a console is pretty bad... If they did that I'm sure they'd also make them available via DLC.

Other bosses that grab are in single player where they are your opponent, and really we're talking about final bosses like Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Master Core where they are supposed to be really really hard and punish people that can't predict patterns. Stage hazzard bosses are kind of a new concept. It would be unfair if you were playing a multiplayer match and you weren't able to escape from Ridley like you can a character.

In 2D games Ridley pretty just grabs Samus and whatever happens while she's grabbed is part of his random attack sequences. Slamming and dragging like he does in other games (Brawl and Other M pretty much) were done with cutscenes that aren't an option here.

That makes sense as well. How did the bosses in subspace work? I'm not sure if they grabbed you or anything either.

I haven't played Metroid in a minute so my Ridley knowledge is probably rusty at best.

If Spainkiller is still reading this, what makes you think that the extra models your friend saw weren't just characters that were cut late in development?

Sometimes leaks, real or not, really warp the perception.

Chorus Kids. A character that apparantly no one knew they wanted until Gematsu ran with it in its second leak.

People repeated it for a year or more. "Gematsu! Gematsu! Chorus Kids! I'm hype!". A Rhythm Heaven enemy in Smash Run? CONFIRMED!!!!

Then it turns out, they are not there at all. And people weep and cry out at Sakurai ; why, why did the Chorus Kids get ignored! You suck, Sakurai!

You did this to yourselves.

I dunno about you guys, but aside from the cuts I'm pretty dang happy with the roster.

Believe in DLC!

Not even a big Lucas fan, but right now I am.
BELIEVE IN LUCAS AND ICE CLIMBERS. STRIKE UP A DEAL WITH RUSTY. MAKE THEM COME HOME PLEASE!

He has a point. No new Metroid or DK stages are such huge holes that one has to wonder how the game made it to launch without them.

If there is no Mother or F-Zero stages in the Wii U version I'm gonna be pissed. I have absolutely no intention of playing the 3DS version after the Wii U version comes out.

Calling these Smash 4 and 5 instead of 4.1 and 4.2 is laughable.
I'm assuming that Magicant and the F-Zero stage will be shared between the games, like the boxing ring and Dr. Wily's castle.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U = Smash 4
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS = Smash (4-.25)
Yes, I'm salty.

I could see them doing Gamestop events (like the Pokemon one's) where you bring your 3DS and can download the 4 characters from their Wii U setups + you could download them by connecting to your own Wii U or a friends Wii U

Not sure how Zipzo is credible. It's not like he has friends in Treehouse or something. He was just a guy who went to the demo.

I think we're pretty much in agreement that if more are to come it's going to be offered to the 3DS as the chances are it was already planned and partially worked on at some point along the way.

i ask again, did sakurai really said that there were no DLC programmed for smash bros?

if that's the case,than it's true

Eh, DLC for a karting game seems like a different beast from one for a fighting game.

You don't have to really worry about balance or anything like that.

Pretty sure that was speculation based off a different leak (the one with the koopaling alts) Also I doubt Zipzo is in the know

In 2D games Ridley pretty just grabs Samus and whatever happens while she's grabbed is part of his random attack sequences. Slamming and dragging like he does in other games (Brawl and Other M pretty much) were done with cutscenes that aren't an option here.

Even in the 2D game where Ridley does not do any follow up actions, Samus takes damage. Pikachu, while being held by Ridley, didn't do any flinching animations. He was just held idly like he was in the grasp of a playable character (there's a little clip in that linked video showing grab+breakout animations in Brawl). So even if Ridley only idly flaps about, grabs a player and holds them in place, they would at the very least take damage.

But why would Ridley's behaviour be so passive? Have you ever seen how his 2 boss fights behave in Brawl? They're crazy. Ridley moves all the time. He doesn't just flap forward a few inches, grab the player and hold them in place, do no follow up attack, and once the player breaks out, continues flying across the stage slowly.
The same goes for Yellow Devil, Master Hand and other boss type characters in Smash 4 we know of so far (except for the completely immobile final form of the final boss). They don't just idly move around, they always do something - attack or move across the stage.

And you made another point earlier about Ridley "not having enough time to follow up" - he held Pikachu for a few seconds. That's ample time to follow up for a boss character. Master Hand immediately follows up as soon as the player is grabbed.
