I just realized that DHD's Final Smash starts and almost goes the exact same way Captain Falcon's Final Smash does.

So...who's actually happy with the roster? While I wish we had Chorus Kids and I'm not particularly fond of Lucina, Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Bowser Jr. getting in, I'm pretty happy. The positive outshines the negative for me. I got Little Mac, Shulk, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Ness and Sonic return and they're looking good, it's all great stuff. I'm content.

I am. I got a character I play to actually stay more than one game (Ike), and I got one of the characters I wanted most (Shulk).

Plus there's a lot of really fun characters I didn't really consider. The cuts suck, but such is life I guess.

I think it's more that he just views DK as a Mario sub-series (as evidence by the Brawl CSS) and, like most of Japan, gives not a single fuck about Metroid.

His choices are justified because he views it as a sub-series even though it's not?

Looking back at my SSB4 Roster Prediction from before E3 last year, I managed to get 5 of the newcomers correct (Little Mac, Bowser Jr., Palutena, Shulk, and 6th Gen Pokemon). Not bad, all things considered.

I think Sakurai just has way more access to the Japanese fanbase given that he can't speak english. And honestly, I don't think Sakurai ever gave a fuck about popularity in the first place. Especially since that's incredibly hard to gauge accurately when the majority of players aren't talking about this stuff online, and you can't assume these communities are representative of anything

Honestly cutting Ice Climbers is the only major problem I have with the roster. Cutting secondary reps is reasonable if not ideal, and Snake's return was always up in the air, but Ice Climbers were a unique slice of Nintendo history and I'm definitely sad to see them go.

There are some roster choices I would have made differently (Dixie Kong over Rosalina, Mewtwo over Greninja), but that's just personal preference, not a statement of overall quality. We've got 48 unique movesets (15 of which are brand new), a ton of tweaks for older characters and all sorts of customization options for everyone. No reason at all to complain.

R.O.B and Wario are the only characters, in the whole smash series, I didn't play more than one game with. I definitely think R.O.B is boring visually and gameplay-wise, I just don't get the love for it.
At least Wario, I guess, has a pretty large fanbase from the ware/land games and looks like a smash character.

It's not just Sakurai. Pretty much everything I've seen out of Nintendo in the past year or two makes it look like they're really doubling down on Japan instead of trying to capture a broader international audience

You can believe whatever you want, but I don't think it's difficult to understand why Metroid and DK fans are upset at getting no newcomers when Kid Icarus gets 2.

It's great. There's some quibbles, but you're going to get that with any game subject to time and budgetary constraints, and the final product is as fabulous a cross-section of Nintendo history and then some as you could reasonably expect.

I agree they deserved newcomers. Dark Samus at least should have gotten in as a clone. But honestly, aside from that, the roster is amazing. Kid Icarus isn't the only series with newcomers you know.
