Punch-Out!! for Wii was an amazing game but it faces two big problems: 1) it apparently sold like shit and 2) Punch-Out!! isn't easy sequel material. For a sequel you either have to create an all-new lineup of characters (which Disco Kid, the sole original fighter, wasn't that great and there's only a few great leftovers) or change up the gameplay in some way that would probably ruin the beautiful simplicity of Punch-Out!!

I'd still like a sequel with Dragon Chan, Narcis Prince, Masked Muscle, the Bruiser Brothers, and maybe some of the weirdos from Arm Wrestling like Frank Jr. I was really hoping that Bald Bull's Title Defense fight would have been Mask X, at least.
If it sold like shit on the Wii, I don't want to imagine how bad it would sell on the Wii U.

Guys, I can feel it in my bones. Ridley reveal within the next 24 hours.
Beat you to it.
Guys. I feel it in my bones. Something related to Ridley will be shown in relation to Smash some time within the next 24 hours.

Oh, I love stuff like this! A dull pic of the day for some perhaps, but I'm really looking forward to finding out what everyone's titles are.

I wonder if Mega Man's and Sonic's will be the Blue Blur and Blue Bomber, respectively.

Sonic's should be "Sanic with an O."
I'm super hyped too. Characters like Olimar, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, and other characters from smaller series don't really have names to choose from, so it will be cool to see what Sakurai and his team come up with.

Punch Out Nicknames:

Fox: Czar of Combos
Wii Fit Trainer: Shogun of Stretch
Villager: Tyrant of Trees
Dedede: Generalissimo of Grabs
Capt. Falcon: Wombo Warlord
Bowser Jr.: Ace of Alts
Kirby: Sultan of Suck
Meta Knight: Metaphorical Sultan of Suck
Lucina: Rule 63 Marth
Ganondorf: Timeline Record 1-2

12 hours until the internet explodes, Ridley or not. Guys, please don't get hyped for any connectivity characters. It's not going to happen. Who we have is who we have, at least for this year.

I hate it when amazing games don't sell well. It fills my heart with such despair.

Wait what? Thats false.
Somebody said the same thing some weeks ago in a punch-out!! appreciation thread and somebody had to come to say it was not true show ww numbers and explain that the game got amazing legs thanks to the word of mouth. Its also not a expensive to do as other titles so it easily recoup the costs. BTW Luigi's mansion 2 was given to them thanks to the great job they did with Punch-Out!! Its obvious Nintendo likes how they worked and how the game sells, even if they are not million sellers.

Throwing false info and masking it as "opinion" or "I remember..." Is a horrible thing to do because people that know less (Like the ones that quoted you) are now misinformed. And its not the first time I see it on GAF.

And discokid was great. It's the first time I hear someone saying that he was not that good to blend well with the others. Also Aran Ryan and Bear hugger are basically new characters in this game because they had 0 personality and not a lot of original moves in Super Punch-Out!!
If there was a sequel (that sadly I dont think there will be in the near future) Next Level are more than capable to create a magnificent experience with new and old characters, and other super ones, again.

I can't say I've even noticed the screen on the 3DS version, though I've barely played on Boxing Ring.

Maturity, bitches.
Wonder if Bowser Jr will have a general one for all the alts or each one a unique one, or a mix of one for Jr and another for the Koopalings.

I just listened to The Wonderful 101 theme and dreamed how amazing it would be to fight as Wonder-Red on the Virgin Victory flying through Blossom City with that song in the background.

Next time perhaps. :'(

I think Jr. will have a full trailer for himself, with the Koopaling alts appearing only in the official site, in Jr's page.

The game seems to treat the character as Bowser Jr, with the alts as just being bonus skins, so it'll probably be a reference to Jr.

Look at his trophies and final smash for example.

Imagine the same situation but with the Final Vorkken battle theme or Tables Turn playing in the background.

Yep, it was not a wow! It sold a ton. But it really sold decently, and some games only need that to be viable.

I wanna see the Punch-Out!! sales numbers. Don't know what thread to look in.

Im in mobile right and on the street now so i can look well for it. If you want to see it you need to look for an appreciation Punch-Out!! thread created some weeks ago IIRC. Maybe it was more than a month ago though.
I dont remember of the title thread it got. I think it talked about the whole saga and then we started talking about how good the wii version was on it.

I mean, something like "The Tiny Terror" kinda works for all of them anyway. They could figure it out.

I hope duck hunt is "The Dynamic Duo"

Pic of the day. The giant screen in the Boxing Ring stage for Wii U reenacts the multiscreen effect seen in the arcade version of Punch-Out!! Looks like their aliases are displayed on the screen too.

If Mario doesn't have "The Great Gonzales" as his name, then this will be a wasted opportunity.

- Mario: The Great Gonzalez
- Sonic: The Fastest Thing Alive
- Mega Man: The Blue Bomber
- Robin: The Amnesiac Tactician
- Lucina: The Ylissean Princess
- Ike: The Radiant Hero
- Marth: The Hero King
- Palutena: The Goddess of Light
- Greninja: The Ninja Pokémon
- Dark Pit: The Flawed Clone

I'd be funny if they changed Dark Pit's name on the board to Pitoo when fighting Palutena so she can mess with him.

In Smash, Dark Pit isn't a flawed clone though. He's pretty much a perfect clone except for 2 moves :)

Anyway, the 50 secrets are all new character DLC. All 50 of them. Even Duck Hunt is now DLC.

...?

If the 1-Up trophy is to be believed, even within a given game, there can be an infinite number of distinct Marios, possibly linked in a gestalt consciousness. Paper Mario is as much a Mario as any other.
He served under Chrom as his tactician (& wingman). I feel like there's a better name, but that'd be an Awakening spoiler.

The main series Mario is the most boring.
My favorite is either Paper Mario or SMRPG Mario.

That is not what I meant. I personally like to believe they aren't the same character since they act so differently.

Anyways, Paper Mario supporters would get so salty if Mario gets the "The Great Gonzales" title.

That was my first thought too haha.

It would be funny if a Robins just completely spoiled the end of the game, but I'm expecting something like "The Amnesiac Tactitian" or something.

We might get 'The Master Tactician', seeing as it's a serviceable title and the Japanese name for the Grandmaster promoted class. Though 'The Grandmaster' might not work as well on its own for the localised version; at least not without the addition of several enthusiastic adjectives.

Dark Pit is slightly slower based on my experience, & hits slightly harder.
He isn't. Pit and Dark Pit move at the same speed and their normal attacks are identical. Their only differences are their neutral specials, their side specials, their Final Smashes, and their taunts and victory poses. That's it.

Must have been just me, then.

Ooh, that sounds about right. Makes him sound pretty good.

I read that forward tilt is also different between them. Is that just false?

The placebo effect is in action.
